IoD vs Saltmarsh

I was considering using the 30% discount on one of these, any thoughts? I have about 3k ddo points to spare.

Agree with others. IOD has better quests, better explorer area and better gear.

But IoD is 2x the cost of Saltmarsh. I can't say convicingly that IoD is 2x as good as Saltmarsh so your decision comes down to how much you want to optimize your $ (or DP in this case). Additionally Saltmarsh will likely be on sale before IoD as IoD is newest (until later this month at least). I would still go for IoD.

I think IoD is much better than 2x as good as saltmarsh! I wear >>2x more IoD gear than salt gear, spend >>2x more time in IoD quests, etc.
Wow, nice! So you can advise what stuff from IoD I can use for 20-30 lvls range, right? You can't? Sadly... :)

And SM stuff still usable for 3-30 lvl because Epic Crafting. ;)

I dont think Ive ever seen anyone(serious) wear more than 1 SM item and that has been the gold curse dagger 99%
Next time you run together with my Goolock, pay attention what set bonus she have... ;)
But, of course, my Rogue have this dagger too... :D

Sharn :) I actually haven't bothered to refarm a level 20 set, and I skip Saltmarsh gear in heroics because the values on Fey gear are so much better.

Thinking in the long term, Saltmarsh is the better deal, it has more and more useful level ranges of equipment. In a couple of years, IoD legendary items are going to be the same as Drow items from Menace of The Underdark - skipped over while people level to 40.

It really depends on how much you feel like you have to do it right now. In about three months, both will be on sale for Black Friday.

You could say that about SM too, ultimately SM heroic items are too low to really be super useful for a long time, the 20 stuff will soon be replaced by Vecna heroic gear which has better set bonuses and the legendary stuff is already inferior. The only saltmarsh lvl 20 stuff I use even now is the runearm (it has untyped imbue) and the goldcurse dagger (for obvious reasons). Saltmarsh doesn't really have any super great pieces, though its all fine in a pinch.

Willing to wait, it's not like I haven't been doing just that. Caught some nice deals on Summer Sails because I'd built up points, just seems a shame to skip the 30% if they don't put up IoD after all.

So it depends on your purchase plans down the line. Saltmarsh, Dread, and now Vecna support upgrading in the cash shop. But if you buy the point version of stuff you don't get to upgrade (you'd just buy the cash version without any reduction in price). So if you're wanting to grab ultimate down the line then you might not want to spend the points, but if you're only planning to get the base cash version, the point one is likely a great way to go instead (as discounts on point expansions don't really happen much).

The fact that you can customize items is a big deal. It won’t be end game forever, but it will be excellent leveling gear for a along time. Legendary reincarnation is going to happen eventually. Might as well have nice gear for that hamster wheel.

Other hand, buying SM with 30% discount save about 600 DDO point, buying IoD save 1200...

IoD is better for endgame, but saltmarsh gear for level 20 is freaking awesome. Also easy to farm for. Of course, I want all the content lol

IoD gear is better for end game (L30+)
Epic SM gear is better (because IoD does not have an epic version) for level 20-29

So it depends on what you do most, I would say. If you TR a lot, I would get SM for the epic gear options. If you spend a lot of time at cap raiding or getting reaper xp, I would get IoD.
