Is Beloved of Faith not affecting Favored Weapon from item?

Could someone explain how Favored Weapon effects on items interact with the Faith-based feats Child of Faith and Beloved of Faith?

I'm currently using Omen, Herald of the Fall, and I tried taking Beloved of Faith (the one available starting at level 12), but I didn’t see any change in the "To Hit" or "Damage" stats shown in the inventory.

Does this mean that the bonus from the Faith feats doesn't apply to Favored Weapons granted by items?
Or is it just a display bug in the inventory?

Also, if the bonuses really don’t apply, would the same be true for Favored Weapons granted by Curses?

If anyone knows how this works, I’d really appreciate some clarification.

IIRC, back when INQ added "favored xbows" they stated that the tree based "favoring" of weapons only worked with other tree-based favored features and that feat-based effects required "real" favored weapons -- ie. weapons with the correct type.

My read of that statement was that some code checks for "favored" status on the weapon and other code checks for weapon types directly; ie. horrifically bad coding. This probably applies to all sources of "favored" status -- it only works for some features.

Is there a way for us to tell which is which? Nope. It's not documented anywhere. You can kinda guess by the age of the feature, but the only way to know for sure is to test it yourself.

I had no idea of this limitation but I guess I should have expected it. There are plenty of other features that have similar limitations.

Thanks!
So that means Beloved of Faith doesn’t work with Omen, Herald of the Fall.

Looks like the Flawless Siberys Dragonshard I gave to Fred was wasted...
That’s a bit sad.

I'd test it to be sure. My comment above was based on recollections of the INQ xbow tree favoring, which is pretty new compared to the original feats and they might have fixed some things when they updated the favored feats from the diety-specific ones.

Every time I make a favored build using a type not on a diety's list, I test everything. I have some vague memories of using a type on the diety list (Qstaff) and getting feats to work without any divine classes via the Divine Crusader T3. It was long ago, though, so I might only be recalling that I tried it, not that it worked.

Omen is a Falchion? It's not a diety weapon, but it's got a very old favored type (via wood elf) and thus might work by itself or with the DC T3.

If you don't have it yet and are saving runes, you can check with DC T3 and any random Falchion. I wouldn't let the lack disuade you from using it -- the beloved/etc feats are just "kinda nice" at cap for a martial weapon.

Since the Lammania server is currently open, I ran some tests on Favored Weapon.

Child of Faith (Lv3) works with Favored Weapons granted by TotC enhancements, DC Epic Destinies, and items. However, Beloved of Weapon (Lv12) didn’t work at all.
That's the kind of thing the wiki-inclined might want to inscribe for posterity. Good work!

hey, I've double checked:
  • Child of Faith does work with Favored Weapon enchantments
  • Beloved of Faith - does NOT (as was mentioned in this thread).
Tested on Paladin and Great Sword T3 Holy Combatant: (+2 to Attack and Damage with Favored Weapons. You gain Greatsword as a Favored Weapon.)

I can do things others can't...
I'm just going to post here to clarify what was going on:

OP was using an item Omen, Herald of the Fall, which is a Falchion, a MARTIAL weapon.

As posted here in a thread that was more recent, I explained what was going on:

Essentially, the "Beloved of Faith" Feat DOES work, it gives another +1 Attack and Damage to Exotic Weapons and +3 to Attack and Damage to Simple Weapons. BUT it is missing the +2 Attack and Damage bonus for MARTIAL weapons.

That is why when the Feat is taken, there is no further bonus, as the tests were being done with MARTIAL weapons, which this Feat is currently missing the bonus for. The Feat itself is working, just missing the bonus it was supposed to give.

Thanks, this makes sense. It's a broken feat, but not broken in a weird way as was alluded to in this thread.
