Is it just me?

All I know is that whatever extended down time they are doing tomorrow may need to last for a week to clean up the hitching and conversation lag happening on Argonesson right now.

I have a lot of time in this game. I enjoy the hell out of it. But this constant performance issues is just CRAZY! If they did not have such a seasoned player base this game would have been shut down years ago.

Yes there have been some improvements. Load screens for one. But basic game play, no. Not even a little if you ask me.

The same hitching while moving, the same chest load lag, the same waiting for quest givers to open the conversation box, the same waiting for quest doors to open, the same spells not registering (I am yelling at you Sunbolt), the same ranged shots not hitting, the same abilities clicked and going on timer but not registering, the same swiging for 2, 3, 5+ seconds and not seeing any damage register only to have it explode above their heads.

This is the crux of the game. They have such a good base with the game, story, customization. But they lose so much good will and proselytizing from their current players that it is a net negative. I have not promoted this game to anyone for years because of the performance problems that just don't seem to get better.

Are they working on them? I don't know anymore. The last performance update we got was what middle of last year? Early last year? Have they just finally said f-it, we cannot improve it without a major infusion of cash for better hardware so we are just going to limp along as long as our players let us?

I am all for new content, systems, items. But if you cannot play the game, what is the point!

I came back a couple of months ago after several years off, and while I've mostly been playing solo, the lag really hasn't seemed that bad to me on Argo so far. Maybe it's partly because I used to run with a regular group, though. Solo, it's been mostly pretty manageable. (I mean, for DDO).

Then again during my time away I spent a lot of time on ARK on official servers, so my standards may have been lowered a little :D

I've been multi boxing 3 accounts over my phone's hotspot for a couple years now. I play daily and don't get any lag unless I run an old raid. Just my 2¢'s.
I'm in a similar situation.

Im way out in the country with no internet to this house, so I have a jetpack and a hotspot on my phone.

I can use either with little issue.

It seems to me like the devs do work on improving lag and they do improve the situation, and it is less for a while. Then theres a game update of some sort. New expansion, new trees or revamp of old trees and here comes the lag back again. I do agree with some people here that everyone should check out their own computer and internet connection for issues. Check for disconnects while online (some browsers have free ad ons that constanty check your ping and disconnects). But to me, every update or expansion brings new issues. Cant wait they they mess with epic destinys to see what happens.

While I generally agree that reducing lag should be the top priority for an MMO, I'm pleased to report that, at present, the level of lag in DDO is acceptable for me.

Lag in DDO has been much worse in the past, and I appreciate the developers addressing that problem. However, there is no reason to become complacent, and preventing lag remains crucial for DDO.

The first thing that comes to my mind is still the slayer area in Wheloon Prison. If a full party recalls from the Army of Shadows and walks to Thrill of the Hunt, there is still a high likelihood of encountering Dungeon Alert and experiencing serious lag. I believe this lag also impacts the entire server. (If you occasionally observe sudden lag in your instance with no apparent reason, it could be originating from another instance like Wheloon Prison.)

Therefore, I suggest that the developers consider removing dungeon scaling in Wheloon Prison and instead implement a fixed number of monsters in that area.

or have we seen ZERO alleviation of lag in the last 7 or so years? As far as I can tell, they haven't reduced it in the least... and instead have institutionalized it. Endless 'process passes' which inevitably result in reduction of abilities and play-styles... but still no legitimate relief of lag?
I am entirely sure that the lag is actually worse except when hardcore started because Sarlona was kinda empty.

Doing past lives on one of my mains...

I took Domain of War.. where, when you cast 'Turn' you get a party buff... last night it was taking 20-25 seconds for it to even fire, but the expiration was timed with when it was cast.. so the buff expired instantly.. every single time.

Any time I try to open a chest, it takes at least 3 tries (with the requisite RT bar), because I rubber-band lag away after the bar fills @ least 2 steps every time and have to keep trying to approach the chest.

Disarming traps is REALLY fun.. I'll attempt a box, have an RT with no bar.... rubber-band a couple steps away... try to move UP.. and THEN the bar pops up and the box blows. Doing Reaper 4 GH was SO MUCH happy time last night

Oh! and the cherry on the top...
When runing thru GH Wilderness, I crossed a crystal bridge on the way to POP.. and lagged.. and fell INTO the bridge... not thru into the lava below.. but INTO the bridge itself and had to use 'stuck'. Running up the last bridge before the climb .. THEN I fell thru a bridge and landed in the lava...

On exiting Wraithcallers on R6... I exited... rebounded BACK into the quest, got a 45 second portal hang, bounced back outside the quest.. and then the client crashed...

*facepalm with sigh* ??☹️
