Is there anything about DDO that still excites you, or is the hype gone?

Again, you are just making obvious that is not worth discussing anything with u, you are fixed in your points of view... and will rationalize anything to fit it. so this is it for me
Game has been full of players that are largely self-serving. You are no different here.

I try to get on once, maybe twice a week for 3 hours a day.

This is a far cry from 2006 - 2015 when it was daily 5-6 hours a day.

My reasoning is that, while it is still fun, the grind to get items (and store them) is too great. While the quests are really good (Ludendorf, Myth Drannor, etc.), new content only goes so far when you have zero, or near-zero, chance of getting new items.

Also, asking repeatedly for the devs to make toggles to let us experience the game how we want and better our experience goes unnoticed (looking at Dragonlord ground effects, unnecessary overhead pop-ups, etc).
The lack of teleporters in wilderness areas is another cause for concern. This has been asked for ad nauseum.

Their failure to listen to the playerbase is another major factor in my lessened playing time.

i dont need hype from ssg i just need them to not be annoying in order for me to play. no ui scaling no caster fix is really annoying.

BiS items are the only way I know to reduce the insane combinatorics problem developing gear sets. Now they are all impossible to get for rational mortals (a rational mortal does not waste countless hours chasing rares). Sucks.

Same answer as in previous threads with same question.

Testing out fun new builds. Questing around and finding something random I missed. Versatility of gear tetris nowadays versus how it was before.

Making my own challenges.

Playing with friends - shenanigans - meeting new folks.

I play significantly less these days.

R10s are too easy - so there is little point in chasing upgrades.
Loot seems boring to me.
New quests offer little that seems new. Often the 10+ years old quests are better subjectively speaking.
I dont need anything from any raids. Nor do any of my buddies it seems.
Casters are not worth playing at cap.

I still play a bit and do enjoy that but where I used to play DDO exclusively I do play other games as well now.

No matter what other games I play, at some point, I always return to DDO. SSG does just enough to keep it interesting for me. I have so much to explore between questing, wilderness areas, different build designs. Putting together a random build and seeing how it plays. There always seems something for me to do.

I don't work for SSG- I pay their bills.
No, this game sucks so bad. Cancelling VIP and not playing has been quite nice.

Obviously, I still keep up on the forums and with friends in discords. I’ve spent a decent chunk of my life playing this game so I’ve made some good buddies.

There is a massive lack of fun in DDO, for it being a video game. I do hope it gets better someday.

. I can beat entire other games in the same time I would spend trying to get a couple rares to redo gear tetris.
I stick with good old gear... or so I thought, I don´t re-roll nor farm a certain item anymore -- and rares, and horror stories of people ransacking for literal months and still can´t get the item, got a large negative part of that. also, I don´t think set bonuses is a super great idea -- interesting loot is.

however.. I got 2 toons, and got so lucky in this lotto I actually swapped out some pieces on one of the toons.

Most players would prefer that Hardcore NOT be forced onto the main servers. The game already has enough within its leveling and grouping dynamics to divide players, we don't need another sir!
As if going to a completely different server doesn't divide the player base?

Reading comments from long time players along the lines of "I gave up hoping for game changes," or "I play DDO less and play other games,' 'Rare loot killed it for me and I unsubscribed my VIp' ... are to me canaries in the coal mine that all is not well with DDO. No hype? No enthusiasm to play? No excitement? Long-time players embracing the Meh?

Does _anything_ in this game still excite you or really light your fires to play?
I only like the quests, graphics, character building, story arcs, the varied nature of different parts of the world, gear, reincarnation, most of the mechanics, the linkage between both micro and macro goals, the fact that I get to make so many choices about my character and gear, the rewards both in quests and through progression, the overall risk vs reward ratio, immersion, and the ability to interact with legends of the D&D lore.

I don't like the lag and the lack of player housing.

Yes, I started pllaying DDO in February 2006, 20-years ago with no breaks.

I love that DDO for many reasons, but the biggest thing is that it stays as close as possible to D&D. That is NO small feat.
Other things I love and/or excite me:
  • The diversity of D&D classes
  • VoN 1 through 6 (great quest line)
  • Forgotten Realms (although I'd like to see more expansion i.e., a big city, maybe Cormyr, Tantris, Waterdeep, or Shadowdale...
  • Chins of Flame and Wizard King are awesome
  • Playing a wizard, ranger, or rogue (my favorite classes)
  • I love Ravenloft, especially Barovia that was done so well
  • Many other things, the list goes on...

Really? These days almost nothing about DDO is D & D. That stopped about 10 years ago. Or more.

For me, all my friends now have triple everything-ist so we are on a break and playing Mechwarrior. We will try out BG3 soon too.

I still have about 100 lives to go so play on my own. I keep things fresh trying new builds every time but its frustrating that some are just so blatantly OP and some are just blatantly UP and SSG simply doesnt care.

10 min a week making minor tweaks would, after a month, make a massive difference. But they have zero interest. They hate having to make changes because its an admission that they were wrong.

Also, they dont actually understand the game so wouldnt know what minor tweaks and nerfs to make.

Still really enjoy DDO. End game gearing is more than a pain because of the rare loot thing and with the gems so if you want to change build it can be expensive due to jewellers kits but in saying that I have fun in DDO in many different ways such as doing the quests I love no matter what level I am and/or exploring every nook and cranny of older zones.

Rarely playing due to rare loot nonsense, the parlous state of casters (my favourite alt is just not worth the effort to relevel) and the recent kludge used to 'fix' stealth. The loss of so many old friends to other servers didn't help either.

I play every day and I'm always working towards a goal. The problem is sometimes you're playing towards making a future goal more fun. Right now I'm doing 3 chaosmancer 1/cleric lives so I can make a sun elf cleric 1/monk 1/sacred fist 18 because I will have way more fun if I have 3 cleric past lives. It feels like work but that's how getting 3 druid/pdk past lives also felt but I've been enjoying those past lives on my main for years and I miss them a lot on my alts so I know it will be worth it at the end!

Before that I was doing racials and I thought I was done but I realised I missed gnome so now I have to go back to do those 3xGnomes at some point all the while I'm getting epic past lives for all my alts.

I had incredible fun playing a dhampir for racials and I was surprised how much fun I had playing a sacred fist at epic (heroic was crap)

edit: Worth noting I've been playing since 2011 but I also play other games as well. This is my only MMO and I tried a couple of others but I've been playing DDO too long to get invested in anything else.
Yeah. DDO has some things where it feels like I'm just playing for the chase, but after I get the chase I actually do enjoy playing DDO just to mess around. I'm usually working towards *something* but in a pretty abstract sense- right now I'm working towards racial completionist but while doing so I'm just messing around with builds for fun on the treadmill. I am trying to avoid any real stinkers that would make leveling a pain, but I've tried a few things I've rather liked along the way.

I still play. I ran through the new stuff once last week and raided a little bit over the weekend and last night.

I'm done playing this game like a job, caring about being "good," achieving anything, or grinding for loot. The games not interesting enough anymore to do any of that.

The 6+ weeks of unplayable lag broke the addiction.
