Complete R1 playthrough or mostly complete(I don't mind switching to elite in certain cases)

First life
No pre-farmed gear
No tomes
32 pt build

I will buy VIP so I'll have whatever comes with that.

I have a buddy who might join me, but mostly this will be solo I imagine, I'll group up when/if I see groups available on LFG

I played years ago. Reaper difficulty was not yet added, I would like to come back and look to play through a character trying to do R1s all the way through. I've searched but haven't found any builds without gear, tomes, etc. Is that because it's not possible?

I'd like to mention, I don't mind if the game feels "slow", I care more about just being able to complete the content. Likewise,
I also like speed :D

If anyone could point me in the direction of a build I would love to come back and give it a try.

It's definitely possible, many do exactly this every hardcore season.

Since you've been away for so long, not only has reaper been added, but hardcore seasons as well. Season 8 just ended. It's a seperate server with leaderboards (one for favor, one for reaper exp) where everyone (even iconics) start at level 1, first life, no gear, and you cannot transfer anything to it (must create a new character).

Of course, the hardcore server/event also include permadeath (instead of turning into a soul tethered to a soulstone, you get teleported to a sort of purgatory where there is no escape until the event is over), as well as a theme/twist (unique champions, deadly hounds that teleport to you every 4-7 minutes, all chests have a chance to be mimics, etc)

As for specific builds, you can try looking for strimtom's hardcore builds (may have to pull some of them from the old forums), or any hardcore build (if they include tomes, just ignore the tomes).

I personally don't make or follow builds, but I have participated in most of the hardcore seasons and done well, sometimes doing r1 right away the whole way, and I know I'm not the only one who has done so. The bonus of doing this outside of a hardcore season is you can rez after death and keep on going!

I did this except on a full free-to-play account with no purchases. I ran paladin 18/rogue 2, 28 pt build, no tomes except that earned with favor as I progressed. No gear, tomes, etc. passed from my other accounts.


Almost every quest and every piece gear acquired is shown on youtube. I am not a regular streamer - I just did this to show people how to run R1 on a first-life ftp character since SSG was nice enough to give all the content away for free.

I mostly ran 4 levels over because there is almost no difference in rxp, I was running all quests for favor anyhow so xp was unimportant, and I was severely undegeared since I didn't pass myself any gear, plat, etc. I didn't have shared bank, epic destinies to start, etc.

If you are willing to spend a little money I would suggest feydark illusionist for cha to hit and damage with paladin.

If you are going vip, artificer is another solid solo class for R1. Warlock is a great ftp class for soloing R1 that wasn't available to me when I did this project. At the time no ftp caster options came close to paladin, but warlock is right up there with paladin if you prefer casting due to the lack of mana issues. Although casters were buffed since then - so it might be better than 2020. Again, feydark illusionist is a super nice thing to have for greater color spray with warlock (or most other casters). Blightcaster is also quite strong, arguably the strongest leveling build right now, but I haven't leveled it on a first-lifer R1 - so I can only speculate.

I would also suggest looking at cannith crafting, esp if you already have essences available.

I have been seeing these hardcore builds, I have many years still in OSRS so the term came natural, but wasn't sure how the changed the builds. Thank you for clarifying. I have actually seen a few hardcore builds that interest me and will look into them further.

First off, that is an amazing guide. Seriously, great job. I will be using so many resources from that regardless of what build I choose.

I secretly knew that I'll end up on a paladin, through all the years of leaving and returning l, they always stand true.
