Progression and getting more powerful are (some) of the main driving forces in DDO. If you meet your "end goals" too early into the progression, the game loses its legs. If your solution is to say take off your points and gear, the game loses some of the core pillars its built on.
Difficulty scaling especially in quests needs a facelift, and some of the top performing characters could probably use a smol nerfbat. We've long since outgunned the enemy - time to hand the difficulty system some new teeth.
Hell, there's even been a 6man group doing first life r10 heroic raids at-level. Sure, their gear is great. Sure, they're good players. But if that's what you gotta do to face challenge - match highest difficulty with half group size with first life (minimal amount of progression within the game reached) then that's a problem. Or in my case, we found our fun 2-3manning raids on reaper on 1st life tank, 2nd life healer, and a more minmaxed dps character as 3rd (or a combination of 2 of these 3 for duoing). My healers aren't even fully optimized because it's simply not necessary for most things in this game - majority of it is already too easy.. Where to go from there?
I don't mind going down difficulty. I'd love if we had to think more about what difficulty to pick even when powerful players are in the group. High reaper (let's say R6+) being so common isn't bad, but R10 being so common is indicative of a problem and I hope SSG will, at some point, address this.
