Is Undead Sorc a trap?

I was thinking of tr'ing my cold nuker sorc into a dhampir. This seems like a bad idea though, since you lose out on immunity bypass with undead form. I was wondering if switching from undead to elemental form whenever needed seems like a viable strategy? I never liked having to swap my weapon to umd heal scrolls so I'm tempted. Is this a trap?

EDIT: maybe this is the best way?
1-20: dhampir embrace death, neg energy for healz
21-34: reset enhancements, savant t5, exalted angel for healz

Yeah i think that's the play... Undead for heroic where heals are more needed, then elemental form once epic heals become an option. Cocoon also aligns with your caster destinies better if you're cold.

Another thing I was thinking of trying was a Feydark T5 force/illusion build, but I think I'm giving up too much nuking power with the Savant T5 tree.

You can already get heroic healing via Bladeforged, if you have the racial AP the difference is about +2-3 DC and different looks.

Without EK alchemists are tanks compared to those abominations

And alchs are glass cannons without a cannon now

To be fair, there is nothing you must have in the Wild Mage capstone or T5. They are nice but you can go falconry/vistani T5 for more HP or splash Pal3/SF3.

Can even splash wiz (Wiz EK5 hp, Wiz AM5 dps, PM for undead) but then you don't really need Dhampir anymore. Losing Sunburst on a light build is also pretty annoying.

I wouldn't personally go with a split: I'd rather play pure and get elemental apotheosis and all my level 9 spells. But I can see the appeal from a defensive standpoint.

I'm playing a dhampir this life, but I think I'll tr and pick another race once I hit 20. I do enjoy the perks of being undead but I don't think it's worth trading for elemental apotheosis when I want a nuker. I've been thinking of trying t5 air savant and wild mage t4 to see how that plays out.

You mean that you cant bypass lets say fire immunity on a monster because you're undead?? I never say that documented anywhere before. I was thinking of building an undead fire sorc so I could have some healing but if you cant strip fire immunity that would squash that idea.

Basically you can't use a major form (capstone) strip if you're in another different major form.

You can use the T5 Fire Savant ability, but you cannot have both undead and elemental forms active simultaneously; and if you're a pure sorcerer blaster, you really want the latter in epics.

That said, you could heroic-level as undead form with NEB + Death Auras to keep you unalive; then respec into elemental form for epics and switch Vampiric Bite back to doing positive energy healing.

Hey thanx, I never thought about the elemental form. Ill probably just do what you say, undead to 20 then just go with positive healing! I played a sorc before, but never as undead so I figured that being able to heal is a good thing.

I tr'd my air savant and am currently running dhampir wild mage for undead form. I seriously miss wind dance, but the self healz are nice. Only level 12 so far but it hasn't been bad.
