I've not played DDO in... many years and would play in heroics, solo, with a melee trapper Dark Hunter, could anyone share a build? Thanks! :)

I have not played in quite a long time, so trying to parse all the ways the game has changed and sorting through builds to know what is still up to date, is tough. I have access to 32 point builds, all the races (besides the brand new ones?) and my goal is jut to play in heroics alone as a melee character who can handle traps.

If anyone can share a build that will work for that, I would really appreciate it. Thank you very much for your help!

I would suggest either pure Dark Hunter for dual-wielding; or Dragonlord 5 / Dark Hunter 15 for THF or SWF.

Dark Hunter 20 would have ~41 Tempest (T5s and capstone) / 24 Deepwood Stalker (Killer + level 12 core for +1 crit range) / either Harper Agent or Horizon Walker for INT / DEX Battle Trance depending on primary (or secondary) stat.

DH 15 / DL 5 would be ~36 DLord for T5s (+2 crit multiplier) / 24 Deepwood Stalker. You'd probably be using DLord's Battle Trance so that leaves ~20 APs for other trees: e.g., Dark Hunter for extra sneak attacks and +3 Imbue dice.

There are variations, of course, including other classes you could splash, but those are two basic approaches I would recommend. Which to use largely depends on which combat style you want.

Thanks! A pure dark hunter sounds great to me, could I ask for some more details? What race, attributes and feats should I take?

Thank you very much. I saw the first 2 builds but as to Stimtom's, I was not sure if it was still "up to date" or not and as to the second... I appreciate all the hard work Kali puts into their builds, clearly it is a lot, but as someone less... devoted to the game, I found all of it very hard to parse and had no idea if it was something which would have a smooth leveling process where it is fun along the way, or if it is just something designed for "end game".

Any suggestions, when looking at builds on the forums, how to tell if they are still relevant to the current version of the game, if that is something I can even do?

Thank you for your help.

I confess I also find Kalibano's posts a little too...information-dense to parse easily. o_O

So let's see if I can do a quick update on a DEX Dark Hunter using scimitars.

Dark Tempest Walker
Dark Hunter 20
Chaotic Neutral Human

    3. Grim Precision III, Shadowcaster: Shadowstriker, Epic Strike Upgrade: Dark Imbuement
    4. Bring Darkness, Epic Strike Upgrade: Improved Imbuement
Primal Avatar (3 AP)
  • This is Your Nature: Heart
    1. Rejuvenation Cocoon
Comments:
  • Would work for any race, I went human for the extra feat and skill points. Non-humans can drop either Two Weapon Defense or Nimble Fingers (only taking it for +1 sneak attack die from Shadowdancer so it's optional).
  • Extend Spell is just for Horizon Walker's Haste SLA. Once you hit level 20, it will last as long as its cooldown (20 * 6 = 120 seconds) and you won't need Extend anymore.
  • Enhancement leveling priority is: 11 APs Tempest for the first three cores and Haste Boost, then fill the Horizon Walker tree for Haste SLA & NSM, then fill in Tempest until level 12-13 so you have all the tier-5s, then you can fill up Deepwood Stalker.
  • You can equip either light or medium armor for leveling, but once you take The Darkest Luck at level 26, use light armor exclusively.
  • If you haven't got a +2 AP tome, I would drop the final rank of Whirling Blades. EDIT: or maybe Improved Dodge.
  • Not convinced that Spirit of the Beast + Primal Force is a better combo than Furious + Overwhelming Force, but easy enough to switch.
  • EDIT: 10 ranks of Tumble gives an extra charge.
  • EDIT: If you don't have Horizon Walker, you can take Know the Angles from Harper Agent instead. Downsides are lower bonus than No Step Missed (since INT is only a secondary stat) and no Haste SLA. But the silver lining is KtA costs less than NSM so you have a few more APs to spread around.
