Jinryū Kenbu (Blade Dragon's Sword Dance) - A TWF Dragonlord

Aeonflux

Member
EDIT: SWF version now here: https://forums.ddo.com/index.php?th...word-dance-a-twf-dragonlord.13248/post-173185

This build started off as a pure test when dragon lord came out, and quickly fell in love with it! Works great as raid DPS, although a little lacking in the healing department for say, anything above R2-4 soloing, but works very well with a group. Your milage may vary depending on past lives etc.

Currently missing the ring for the set bonus on live, but other than that everything is the same as my current main Aeonflux (PL/Tomes etc)
Why Bastard swords you say? Because I'm immature and always liked the name over everything else in game lol.

A badly edited video of DPS:

I've really enjoyed my TWF DL, but I am looking to increase her output. I was hoping this thread was going to give some insight (the thread title sounded so ferocious)...but...
Give me 100% Doublestrike, 90%+ OH, ~340MP, 12SA, 10Imbue, 100%Helpless, +115roar DCs; +200AC, 250PRR, 110MRR, 30%dodge, and you got something for a decent DL. Otherwise, this is mediocre at best. If you live in R1 questing and LH raids, I'm sure its okay.
I highly recommend you get out of Vecna and into IoD. And maybe minimize Ravager and go up a Uni tree...its worth it.

I have played a variety of DL builds (to 20, 18/1/1, 5 or 6 w/ multiclass, etc). I think Stratiotis' numbers are good goals and that's what I generally work toward as well. To help on your way there, I would suggest following adjustments:

1) Bastard swords are subpar on a TWF build in my experience. You should use that feat for Knights Training and switch to Longswords. Trust me, it will make a big difference. Same feat cost for better dps.
2) I would definitely switch your weapons to Dino.
3) I would focus on which profane bonuses best serve you, but you need to get profane bonuses from either Vecna or IOD. You may have them, but I think you are only up to 4 Forbidden Knowledge if I am counting right.
3a) I use Vecna 5 and Dread Stalker, but you also need to optimize your pieces to the benefits you want. I see more builds with IOD 5 than Vecna 5, and I think that's probably cause the item bonsues match better.
3b) If you go Vecna 5, I would switch your belt to the one w Cannith Infusion. The bonuses on belt you have are relatively easy to get, but Cannith Infusion is a bit harder to come by and very very good imo.
4) The raid filigrees amount to +2 STR. Well worth the investment.

Those would be my suggestions anyway and should be relatively easy to incorporate.

Its the 90% OH I can't seem to hurdle in my above specs. Rest of the specs are currently there using 5pc Dread, 3pc Stalker and 3pc Summer. Cap 34 may be able to get me over 90% OH...but DL's biggest deficiency is doublestrike. I have to eat all sources to get to 100%, which leaves little improvement of OH increase.
...and yes...Dino LS are in effect FTW

I had the impression that there is no good TWF build without involving the Tempest tree.
Its not only the Dance of Death but the other goodies also, such as Dual Perfection

A good thought in general, however my DL is almost an exact replica gearout of my main toon…which is a tempest. While the DL’s defenses are lower, she hits harder than my tempest.

DL hits harder in my experience and by a decent margin. But it really comes down to how you value Strikethrough as AOE for your build and the situations you find your toon in.

You may miss Strikethrough in certain situations where there's lots of trash or you are playing in a smaller group (I'm in a 3-4 player group for r6-f10) and need to grab aggro quickly from a larger group of champs or if you play solo a bunch. But you can find workarounds even for those, so it is central to a certain gameplay, but not to the game as a whole.

But you can find workarounds even for those, so it is central to a certain gameplay, but to the game as a whole.
Strikethru? On a TWF?

I was thinking TWF w strikethrough and TWF w.o strikethrough. Wasn't trying to say anything about THF or any of that.

For TWF, Strikethrough is helpful, but situationally. You can work a build around those situations if you have other focuses that are more important to what you are trying to build for.

Sorry I had a typo in there that threw off what I was trying to say. Sorry about that.

Yes what do you think Dance of Death does?
I think DoD does 200Strikethru for 10 sec. I also think DoD is only found on tempests. And, I think this is a TWF DL thread.
DoD (or strikethru) has nothing to do with TWF DL as dj was suggesting. (Actually, I'm not sure what dj was suggesting). But I am curious if there is actual value in attempting to build strikethru on a TWF DL. That can't be a thing, can it?

@Spook Tell me what YOU think?

Errr the post you quoted was comparing Dragonlord to tempest....
A good thought in general, however my DL is almost an exact replica gearout of my main toon…which is a tempest. While the DL’s defenses are lower, she hits harder than my tempest.
Are you referring to this post? Please tell me where you think I mentioned DoD / TWF Strikethru on a DL. I even “CNTL F’d” DoD in my post…couldn’t find it. I am inquiring @djaimgo68 how/why he is building strikethru on a TWF DL.
I am not inquiring anything about my knowledge of DoD on a tempest. I am also not inquiring about the price of tea in China.

Reread this post again this time with the understanding that djaimgo68 is comparing Dragonlord with Tempest or in their words TWF without strikethrough vs twf with strikethrough

That’s what I’m not following. What is TWF w/ Strikthru? I would not refer to DoD as “TWF w/ Strikethru”. It’s a temp action.

I do refer to TWF w. strikethrough with Tempest. Yes, it's temp, but 10 of 15 seconds iirc, but that's significant enough imho.

Honestly all I was trying to do was provide Magnus some context given he was under impression that all good TWF builds run Tempest, the goods and bads, etc. Nothing more than that.

Okay this is a misnomer in vernacular. Got it. (I’m foreign, what do I know about the English language?)
“TWF tempest have DoD /Dual Perfection; TWF DL no have DoD /Dual Perfection, but have big whumpums. Tempest no big whumpums.”

If you want AOE go Quick Cutter. “Many big whumpums!”
(Just make sure you have good ranged power, QC scales with RP…not MP…cause you know…DDO)

Do you have something better? or was it just the lvl you would want it to be before trying it?

Do you think this would work as a first like build?
Also, I notice you put three points into Speed or Strength: Boulder's Might, but that requires that you use a two handed weapon to work. Is that a mistake?
