Kali's Warlock Enlightened Spirit pure Caster build

Build Designer. Having fun since 2006!
DDObuilder file (v2) updated to include Legendary Alchemical crafting (added to the builder in a recent patch) in the orb.
The values for the bonuses on each tier are not currently displaying, but I have reported this to Maetrim.

Since support/updates for v1 have been discontinued, I will no longer update/share that version of the file for any of my builds.

Enjoy! :)

Warlock (Fiend) Enlightened Spirit build update:

Love the build, but I have just re-specced it to a Chaosmancer pure Warlock Careci (Ice) version, currently at level 29 (as of 08/Jun/2025).

The key reasoning behind this build change:
  • I personally like Wild Magic Surges, especially considering how the racial tree completely removes the possibility of having any ‘Very bad’ nor ‘Bad’ surges: so it’s mostly extra good stuff, free, no drawbacks
  • The Devs indicated the possibility for further surges to be added in the future: I look forward to potentially more free nice stuff!
  • Eladrin Chaosmancer has made it possible to have cold immunity bypass for pure Warlocks via the T4 AoE spell Winter Hail, much like Tiefling had done for pure Warlocks ref fire via 'Scorch'
  • Carceri pact includes several damage dealing spells (i.e. Creeping Cold, Ice Storm, Niac’s Biting Cold, Greater Creeping Cold) and a special ability that seems en par with ‘Hurl through Hell’ (i.e. Absolute Zero): for a build like mine, which actively casts damage dealing spells while the aura dishes out damage passively, this feels far more synergistic
  • The Fiend (Fire) build used ‘Exalted Angel’ as the main destiny. Since the ED revamp, this choice seems a lot weaker. The worst aspect was the Epic Moment being tied to Turn Undead and religious lore feats (Warlocks get none) and the loss of the healing in the mantle
  • Magus is the new main ED planned for this build, and I feel it will be a far superior tree overall. Some of the highlights: Time Stop, Zero Degree Comet, Moon Lance fully upgraded, Cold Light Zone fully upgraded, lots of Spell Penetration, etc.
  • Primal Avatar as a secondary tree also feels strong. The key highlights: extra CHA, extra imbue die, the mantle, Evergreen, Thundersnow (upgraded)
  • The potential to use a rune arm (via Machrotecnic) for further extra damage: very keen to test this addition!
  • Losing Dragon Breath: Vortex seems a shame, but I am keen to test the potential of the ED choices summarised above at endgame
Below are the key aspects of the build (as in the planner). I will only fully post this in the forums once the build is at endgame, fully geared, tried and tested. This serves as an indication of the direction I am heading; in case anyone finds it useful!

Note: the gaps in the gear plan are intentional, and have Myth Drannor loot in mind. Options could change later, but for now, that's a rough draft of what I have in mind.

Since I won’t be actively playing the Fiend (Fire) build in the live game anymore, updates to that build (inc Myth Drannor changes) won’t be made anymore. I will move it to the section of my repository titled ‘Builds no longer being actively played nor updated, for anyone to potentially get some ideas/ inspiration from it, or even to update/add to it from where it was last modified.

Sorry, too much to juggle: I will always prioritise the builds I am actively playing.

Loving the ice version so far!

Just added a screenshot of the gear planner spreadsheet for the Carceri Warlock version of the build in the post above 👆 .
As previously mentioned, the gaps in the gear plan are intentional, and have Myth Drannor loot in mind.
Any choices I've made could change later, but for now, that's a rough draft of what I have in mind.

I'm on the racial train, so locking into a race is a problem. Would you stick with Carceri or suggest some other pact for leveling then one and done R4s at cap?

Hey there, happy to make some suggestions :)

I've always played Fiend because of Hurl Through Hell, but also Howl of Terror and Command. The drawback had always been the pact dmg (fire) being resisted (more impactful on some quests/ vs some mobs), until Tiefling came about and all was settled.

Prior to Eladrin Chaosmancer immunity stripping, despite not having played other pacts, , had I not gone Fiend, I was strongly considering 2 options:
  • Great Old One:
    • acid does not seem as widely resisted as fire and cold (and possibly electric too)
    • the pact spells were indeed very enticing to me, since the main aim of my build is to insta-kill:
      • phantasmal killer
      • power word: kill
    • Knock is very handy to have too
    • The 2 charm spells can be handy for some playstyles (e.g. starting combat by charming some mobs, particularly if you like soloing)
  • Fey
    • sonic seems to be one of the energy types that is least resisted in the game, in general terms, and based on my experience playing several bards
    • pact spells are less enticing: my personal highlights are both Otto's spells
I have not tried the other pacts, so a bit hesitant to comment on them.

Hope this was helpful towards making a pact choice for your levelling through racials :)

So you would run a GOO eladrin Eladrin Chaosmancer? I really like warlocks but my GOO lock just wasn't that great for raids/high reaper. Looking for such a viable build to TR to once I get my sorc to 30.

Can't say I wouldn't, but when the time came to TR my Fiend Warlock, I looked at all the pacts, and Carceri seemed the most enticing to my personal playstyle because many of the pact spells were damage oriented.

This mitigated the thing I personally felt lacking the most in my Fiend build: active offensive spells, since my build uses the aura for blast dmg passively. Insta-kills + CC does the job nicely for a very large part of the content, sure, but for boss fights, I wanted a bit more in terms of selection to rotate, particularly DoT spells. EDs do provide a few offensive spells, but I wanted more :)

My Carceri alt is at level 9 now: I paused levelling her with the release of MD, to run the quests at endgame for items/ augments / reaper xp, favor, etc. with all my alts currently at endgame (14 I think). Eventually I'll pick up on the levelling again (though likely with a long pause at level 15 to run heroic MD a few times to farm some of the loot and augments). I'll be able to comment on how much more/less I enjoy this build in ref to the aims I set out and in comparison with the Fiend build.

Like I said in my previous post:

I have not played GOO before, so that's probably as much as I am comfortable to say. I only like posting things I have tried and tested fully against the aims I propose and to suit my personally playstyle. Sorry to disappoint on this occasion, but I don't have a build I can share for GOO, sorry.

Hope this was somewhat helpful :)

Can you convert you ddocp to v3? Your current ddocp won't open in 3. Thanks!
Not sure what you mean ref v3. The builder I use is Maetrim's DDOBuilder, which is at v2 atm.

The version of the file I shared in the original post (pasted below) is for the Fiend build, not the Carceri build.

11. Kali's Warlock Fiend CC + Insta-kill + Offensive caster build
DDOBuilder (v2) file for this build. You can find and download Maetrim's DDOBuilder (v2) here.

Major build update in this post

I haven't shared the file for the Carceri build yet, since my alt has not arrived at endgame in the live game. I shared screenshots of what I had planned at the starting point, where I was simply planning, just for reference in case someone wanted to have a go in the meantime based on the images alone.

I tend to share the full build + files only after it's been fully tried and tested.

I have my alts leveled to 11 for the bank/backpack upgrade quests but need more room. This time I wanted to level an alt to 34. So, decided to test your build. I like Warlock and blasting away, but I have to admit I prefer cone blast vs standard because, you are correct in it being terribly slow. I was very reluctant, aura builds seemed weak to me, no blasting away? Nothing but a weak club to melee with.. Ugh!

I see the light! I have had a wonderful time leveling it. So easy, everything that comes near me dies a swift death. One AoE blast takes out everything most of the time. Many things do not even require me to use one of the AoE blasts at all.

I got the Warlock Fiend build to 33 and went to look at further posts to see if you suggested what to take 33-34 and saw you scraped it for a new Ice build lol. I debated reincarnating and starting over, because I wanted the best build since I plan to use the alt not only for storage but for farming items. I spent a good hour in torment. Then realized I do not even have the Iconic Build to make the new Ice build yet. I only have the Collectors pack. I just spent a lot on the digital D&D 2024 books so was budgeting and plan to get the upgrade pack next month. Sadly, the Ice build will have to be another alt. I hope you have it mapped out by then.

I have 4 Lives on my main and 2 alts already I have leveled using your builds. Only one I didn't have a great time with was Dark Hunter. It just felt slow and weaker vs the other builds. May have been my gear as I have no raid gear yet and defiantly do not have great 20-30+ gear yet too, but I just didn't have fun. The rest have all been so fun. Thanks for posting these. I hate video guides. I like all the data in front of me vs having to scan through a video. So these are so great. Thank you again.

Really glad you enjoy some builds, and the layout I use to present them in the forums :)

I've been playing since 2006, and I personally hate the 'standard' way builds have been shared for a very long time: a massive wall of white text pulled from external builder software. Not particularly fond of some 'write-ups' that have a ton of text to go through before you get to the build itself, or even worse for me personally, to have to search for elements of the build scattered everywhere and buried under a ton of text.

I also dislike some video guides: some people talk so fast it gives me a headache lol. I'm a visual learner, so without visual aid to what is being said, not much gets absorbed. Even with some visual aid, I sometimes find myself just muting them, pausing and taking my time to look at things without the noise in the background. Auditory learners will obviously benefit immensely from video guides (and a ton of other people that simply enjoy video guides), so it's great they are out there.

I aimed to provide lots of visual aid via imagery, while cutting down on text overload through the use of 'spoiler drop down sections'. Separating things in sections has hopefully made it easier to find what someone is looking for, and easier to skip sections that are not deemed of interest.

I share DDOBuilder files for all of them too, and I highly recommend having DDOBuilder open at the same time as the forum build, as it's a very easy way to hover over the trees in the forum images to find out more about things, for example.

This is not meant as a personal attack to any specific person, neither any specific builds out there. I am simply sharing my personal dislikes for how builds have been done for years. I decided to things differently, and I am very pleased so many people enjoy it! Every person who shares builds to help others is doing a great job sharing and helping :)

Any thoughts on Wlk15/Wild Mage 5?

My Warlock alt's TR into the new build is going well: he has now reached level 20.
I have updated the images in the post linked above to include:
  • Magic of Myth Drannor's:
    • new feats @ level 33 and 34
    • +8 Epic Destiny points
  • Vecna's Ultimate Bundle
    • +1 universal tome [Morgrave]
I am still planning to only share the DDOBuilder file once the build's gear tetris is completed, and once it gets tried-and-tested at endgame content R6-10. In the meantime, I hope the images provide a good indication, to those who might want to try this at this stage, of the direction this is heading.

Enjoy! :)

My character using the Carceri build above 👆 is now at level 32 running raids and starting to do endgame content in reaper mode.
My focus was solely on getting this fully levelled up and geared for endgame reaper, but when I heard about the Dark Bargainer, I paused my efforts particularly in ref to doing gear tetris.

Potential Dhampir Dark Bargainer build re-spec

Sadly, I am not going to be able to buy the Lamordia Ultimate bundle now, so it's likely I will need to wait for this Iconic race to become available in the DDO Store. At that point, and based on a first glance at at what the race and its tree offer, it's looking very likely I will revisit my build, since there are some very strong synergies:
  1. this build functions at melee range, dealing dmg via the Enlightened Spirit's melee range 'Eldritch Aura', and this alone creates significant synergy with several aspects offered by Dark bargainer
  2. the main damage of the Eldritch blasts for my build is evil, since it uses the Tainted Scholar's T2 'Utterdark Blast'
    • Dark Bargainer uses evil damage for its pact, which makes it simply ideal
    • Enlightened Spirit's T4 'Spiritual Retribution' lets you add imbue die damage to Eldritch Blasts/Aura, as well as the ES 'cleave' attacks (T3 Eldritch Burst and T5 Eldritch Blast). The imbue damage type is Light, which is boosted by alignment spell power, which also boosts evil dmg, so again, very strong synergy here
    • the Dread Mist spell per se inflicts evil dmg per caster level every 2 secs, and my understanding is that the radius of the Mists is not very wide, so could be said to function in a slightly wider 'melee range', which is highly synergistic with this build
    • Dread Mists will inflict 'Growing Dread stacks', and spells like 'Prey on Fear [T2]' and 'Crushing Dread [T4]' inflict extra evil damage for each stack of Growing Dread, while inside the Mist. Both functions at melee range, which again synergises strongly
    • the Iconic tree grants +1 Pact Die (T1), and possibly +1 Eldritch Blast Die, +1 Pact Die (T3, though the wiki is not very clear if this is granted passively, or only if the 'Vampiric Blast' Eldritch Essence Stance is toggled on): more dmg is always nice, and so far, it's unique to this race.
  3. being able to go in undead form and self-heal with 3x death auras (just like Pale Masters) will be a massive game changer, for the better
    • as this build functions at melee range, Vampiric Bites (upgraded by T3 Deathly Bite) will heal with negative energy, so another synergistic boost to survival
  4. potential for negativeto be a secondary dmg type
    • 3x Death auras dealing negative dmg to enemies too, as this build functions at melee range
    • there's potential to go with Magus, like the Carceri build, just swapping cold for negative dmg, and possibly using the melee range mantle (Chill Aura) that pulsates negative + cold dmg every 6 seconds
    • or perhaps go back to Draconic Incarnation like the original Fiend build, swapping fire for negativedmg. This is quite appealing, since this ED grants
      • extra imbue die,
      • a cool epic strike (Dragon Breath Vortex) that dishes out dmg passively, like an extra aura,
      • and daunting roar CC via Vortex
  5. so this build would shift its focus to evil and negative damage, for the most part, possibly with some force too (even if only for dealing dmg with it's main CC spell: Evard's)
  6. Iconic Dhampir emphasises necromancy, which is the main spell school this build invests in, and will support the main aim of the build (as outlined in the original post with the Fiend build, since the build aims did not change despite re-speccing into Ice)
    • the necromancy pact spell 'Call on the Mists' would be a great AoE insta-kill addition to current AoE options available to this build (Circle of Death and Wail of the Banshee)
    • 'Ascendant Bite' is based on necro DCs, and adds an extra single-target insta-kill option to the other single-target spells being used (Finger of Death and Trap the Soul). Vampiric Bite functions at melee range, so again, highly synergistic
    • the tree grants +1 Necro DCs (and an extra +1 from the CHA gained in undead form), and Warlocks in general (but especially when they go ES as main tree like me), don't grant a lot of spell DCs, so this is a massive plus
  7. 'Fearsome Countenance' is a very nice CC/de-buff addition to what is available to the build. Despite CC and de-buffs being as secondary aim for my build, they are still important and worth the investment.

So, Carceri Chaosmancer is super fun, and works very nicely so far. The key improvements I felt so far in comparison to the previous Fiend build were:
  • cold immunity bypass
  • extra dmg spells via pact spells (inc 3x DoTs for bosses)
  • Magus as the main Destiny (vs Exalted Angel with Fiend), particularly Time Stop, Zero Degree Comet, Nullmagic Aura, and lots of Spell Pen
  • Wild Magic has some nice buffs

... but it feels the real main reason for going Chaosmancer Carceri was to bypass immunity to the pact dmg, and this isn't a problem for the Dark Bargainer. The Iconic tree looks very strong, so considering the synergies outlined above, it's highly likely I will be heading in that direction.

Hope these thoughts are useful for those still visiting this post for inspiration for Warlock builds. It hit 30k views recently, so it's still one of the popular ones in my repository

So is the Dark Bargainer stuck with having to swap forms to heal and use shining light?
Bearing in mind I don't have Dark Bargainer yet, so I am going by the description in the tree in the wiki and my understanding of it, without real game testing.

Not sure which Shining Light you are referring to:
  • if you mean the Enlightened Spirit's C5 Celestial Spirit, it does not seem possible to use 'Embrace Death' at the same time, since both are major forms. Likely I will stick with the Embrace Death form (rather than keep swapping), since the only major loss from the Celestial Spirit form is the +3 imbue die. I did suggest to the Devs making the imbue die effect passive when training C5, rather than depending on the form being toggled on, but it did not happen. Besides, there's negative energy dmg via the auras at melee range which I plan to keep on 100% of the time, so it would be a shame not to be healed by it continuously.
  • if by Shining Light you mean some kind of positive healing effect (I can't seem to find that name anywhere), then I would not personally consider swapping out of undead to heal, because there seems to be very strong support for undead healing:
    • Dark Bargainer has an enhancement in their racial tree (T3 Deathly Bite) that lets the Vampiric Bite heal for negative energy
    • They also get pact spells that cover self-healing strongly (speaking from use of the same spells on my Pale Master Wizard build)
      • Lesser Death Aura, Death Aura and Greater Death aura (the 3 can be on at the same time, and the healing stacks)
      • Negative energy Burst
Sorry If I misunderstood your question, hope this managed to be somewhat helpful.
