Ki Bolt, Magic Missiles, and Ruin Make Muggle Monks Moan

Wind Stance from OP: (100k Ki bolt and 20k QQs) Loss of 30 PRR, water stance dodge/max dodge, gain of wind stance doublestrike, 800 hp and a ton of AoE dmg between this and OP. Leaned on prior lives learning to go Con-based on monk. Simplified 2 cornerstone monk, but replaced Adrenaline + BM with just QQ, since it does the same damage but does it AoE. Mostly I just wanted 1 less button to push that was effective on a Con-based build.
Basically Eerie Aim is MvP feat, as it lets you drop Wisdom 20 points and pick up way more stuff than 1 feat would otherwise provide.
Screen-Shot-2024-09-29-195737-0.jpg

Misc:
Seems like draconic dot hitting for >100k makes an effective ranged taunt through R10. Regardless, the +400% threat in US (+ Earth Stance sometimes) QQ and Ki bolts are really smooth and picking up and holding up mobs. Wide sweep feels balanced for melee AoE CC, in that it doesn't work on reapers or a lot of mobs and isn't helpless so reaper mode isn't trivialized. The three ticks + two applications of QQ every 6 seconds basically wipes out trash, leaving Ki Bolt for remainders. We don't have immunity bypass for our ki bolt, but it feels good enough anyways. Can almost 1 dot an R7 doom with Ki bolt.

Dungeon notes:
Between QQ for AoE and ki bolt for single target everything melts to a single monk.

Raid notes: Water is the default R10 raid tanking stance, as mobs hit for 36k pre-mitigation.
R10TS: Fine, trip, cleave, ki bolt away. With +450% threat from US, you can dps aggro tank boss from behind a pillar with just ki bolt, and everyone can go nutz. Have a pile of Ki from beholder in front of boss, turn on water stance ki regen.
R10LHox: Mobs hit for 36k pre-mitigation, so will 1 shot. The melee mobs you can approach in a stealth and abundant step in and open with trip, or you can kite them with ki bolts, but if you pause to try trip them and you have aggro they will swing and 1 shot you same time. The mind flayers you have to LoS or they will -100 charisma or 1 shot with polar ray. Fire shield will turn the polar ray into a 2 shot, but it's annoying to keep up and doesn't protect against the -100 charisma, so it is better to just kite them around inner corners. Also of note: R13 is not R1-3, so don't zerg off as if you are invincible.
R10FoTP: for some reason the trash here doesn't 1 shot you. Go figure. Can kite the elementals around while you work them over with ki bolts, or stand between both dragons and work them both over, and still dash + spring attack to wherever mobs spawn. Or kite or safe spot a dragon. It all feels really good.
EliteKT: Ok, can't tank the dragon breath on elite. Have to sidestep it by dashing to dragon side. I think I can solo EH with added QQ dps and either arcane absorb or from the shadows clickies for wisps. The solo challenge on EH is the wisps and either cold absorb or kiting that boss to a doorway and moving in/out with renewal running.
LHChrono: pretty sure can solo this too, end fight dragon hits hard. Hard to maintain concentration and kiting and healing for as long as end fight is solo. Abishai healing is turned off by elemental ki strikes of element abishai is weak to. Can't join the mid-high reaper groups, because +% threat will turn the boss. Maybe cap out at R3 or so?
LHVoD: can solo this as well. Can't join the mid-high reaper groups, because +% threat will turn the orthons and boss. Maybe cap out at R3 or so?
R3Hunt: Probably best to kill adds, or get ok before joining PUGs past R1 because with single target dps burn downs at +400%+ threat you will pull aggro off any tank, and they may not appreciate it, even though with heals you could just tank boss. Maybe cap out at R3 or so?
R1 FoM: stand to side of boss so you don't kill melee when you pull aggro. Taking a buncha hits on low R helps the tank not build up stacks as fast, and you can easily drop stacks killing an orb while roaming to kill trash. Can't join the mid-high reaper groups, because +% threat will turn the boss. Maybe cap out at R3 or so? I think I can solo this on LN, maybe LH with anti-fire setup.
R10 Shroud: Mobs hit for 36k pre-mitigation, so will 1 shot. Save trip for when they spawn, or kite them and only stand toe to toe if they are CC'd. You can't trip an aggro'd medium or large mob, as it will 1 shot you at same time. Kobolds you can trip if aggro'd on you. R10 portals explode for ~5k after mitigation, which is survivable if you have full hp. Ki bolt kite red names, can't safe spot the divine caster without spell absorb, as it will 1 shot you with divine wrath. Grab a single red name and kite it around until it is dead. Stealth > trip is good here too.
R1Skellies: Go nutz.
LH Things Old And New - Can't move. Lag. Otherwise go nutz. Feels like combat part of this can be solo'd if lag allowed.

Edit: By capping out I mean you will not be able to tank past that reasonably on setup I have and will pull aggro, but at R10 damage is reduced enough that you can dps it.

Amusing tidbit: After over a decade of nerfs and recycled and resold power, we are still at 3k hp 300 PRR melee. Hahahaha. Now we are back to the beginning... I'm not gona lie, it feels a lot like playing an old tree build....

Yeah I have to be careful of pulling aggro in raids. I haven’t settled on destinies perfectly but I like adrenaline hits for the auto-helplessness more than the actual damage.

I went dex for stealth and occasional shuriken use (I put debuffers on a shuriken, PRR and MP on my swords). I am sitting around 250 PRR and 90 MRR with amost no PLs so I lack the big PRR buff folks get with lots of ERs. I just don’t feel like grinding it and this is an alt. The fast speed is addictive and I like hitting stuff with a ki bolt and abundant stepping away.

Build is really good for Skeletons. I am curious what the monk dragon disciple might have to offer; right now I have her as a wood elf for the long sword proficiency.

I think dragon disciple will be a tank build due to lore.
Maybe they will add it and Ravager to Monk and take away NiS and Shintao :)

Hmm, if you have to be cautious with aggro at -% threat, then it must not modify draconic dot.
Due to AoE of QQ balancing out build, new martial feats, and refinements due to Eerie Aim being able to cut out and re-allocate 20 wisdom worth of development, cut off a buncha time on raid solo.
Screen-Shot-2024-10-04-233934-0.jpg

And they say dps casters don't have sustained dps for raiding ... solod this raid on 240 mana. Raid has ~13 million hp, so ~54k damage per point of mana. I would say that's pretty sustained, with this caster being capable of being the solo DPS of an EH raid before falling to Echoes of Power (which will sustain it indefinitely). This is also one of the simplest builds period, let alone caster build to play.

edit: Am moving away from Fish swords as I want to use a chain build and SWF with an Undying Age kukri. My doublestrike is way too low with the longswords and I am considering SD due to all the extra spelpower in it—in SD you need light weapons. It is not as good as Fury but will see.

someone asked me how I geared my Muggle, so here is my gearset. I have so many sets locked in that I cannot swap out a single piece.

I like to stealth so I went dex; this is an Alt with few PLs but I use it mainly for our guild raids and a few other things. I did not list all the augments since it seems obvious. I am sitting on about 250 PRR and 90ish MRR without buffs from US et al; remember this is a new toon with few PLs.

Logic: Fish swords for crit multi and artifact boost, Cooking by the Book for Legendary spell crit damage etc; Beacon of magic for MRR artifact boost AND MRR cap boost; Monolith for acid spell power and IoD for profane. I have great Missile deflection % and deflect arrows, very handy.

I am thinking of changing this at some point and going SDK 1 rogue/1 FvS (for trance)/18 monk, SWF kukri for way more MP, some CC and more fun for my sneak-to-chests-in-certain-quests for free looting.

I love that, because it confirms the framework works for at least a few varieties of builds and gear/character power level. I was a bit worried that the gear requirements or aggro generated would be too much for newer characters or alts. It is good to see a different build and blue dungeon gear set work on a low life alt.

Ahahah gl on that dreadbringer MP rare...

I also like that you adapted for needed CC/threat reduction to use adrenaline, as QQ dot doesn't seem to be modified by threat.

Thank you for sharing your layout Sakee!

If change to double Long Shadow +5 MP => +10 MP

If change to double Dreadbringer: Tactic DC (r) +2MP => +14 MP

Then Dreadbringer Dex and Prr can be changed to any rare +5MP for +10 MP
Summary +24MP

Less defense, more POWAAA!!! \0/
8)
yes, did the MP boost before, but the DPS is not in the melee power--it is in the spell power. So that is why I shifted heavily to PRR and defenses. Melee power affects the initial ki bolt hit a little, I think, and the melee attacks of course--but they are a piddling compared to the Ki Bolt and DoT.

The toon shines in the some of the raids we do--we are not pushing anything too high; I like how it performs in Skeletons especially and Killing Time.

My version of this build is soloing Yegora in about 2min, assuming Epic Moment and wellspring use

edit: managed 90 sec once!

Heh, based on the thread, that's some accomplishment!

Interestingly, it puts a low life alt in dungeon gear within a factor of two of an uberpletionist in raid gear. That's solid since they can play together then. For certain then this is a come-as-you-are monk framework then.

Build was too many buttons for me, so I simplified Light the dark/LoH out as bugged and trance out as not relevant to a con-based proc damage build. Respent the points on VKF defenses and doublestrike, to have 40% standing in town dodge in water stance. Now everything fits cleanly on hotbars, and every button has a meaningful result. Swapped back to water stance as primary stance since R10 raid mobs hit for 36k base (9k after 300 PRR).

Screen-Shot-2024-11-27-194621-0.jpg

Also cut another 30 seconds off raid time by removing those two buttons and having easier access to buttons that do more, and spending the points for those buttons elsewhere. Also can play more aggressively. I think that finishes the testing to optimize build. Now to push to elite and slide in an alternate boots + waist for fire resist, buy a stack of fire shield scrolls, and also go wide and take on some fire-based raids.

I went dex...
I think NiS does have the highest dps. I'm 99% positive dex quarterstaff and T5 NiS is more dps than T5 HeM due to doublestrike. Try swap up and use QQ instead of adrenaline, and your AoE will also increase quite a bit. The razorclaw handwrap R10 solos use QQ as the primary AoE.

Uh aren’t you double strike capped with quick strike or whatever it’s called? I’m curious how the razor claw hand wraps builds were doing r10s. I mean I could do some r10s as a razor claw dragon lord hand wraps but it wasn’t fast by any means and certain bosses were super annoying.

hmmn well the ninja spy enhancements won’t buff the critical threat range and multi of the q staff. I want to try chains and swf kukri as it gets an extra 30 MP then what I am using—If I had the universal enhancement tome I suppose I could do 40 Vistani for capstone, 6 henshen for ki bolt the 34 for ninja spy tier 5–that would get self defense and shadow double.

In the distant past I messed around once with SWF and tier 5 Henshin for spamming vorpal strikes with void strike. I do not think void strike procs on the doublestrike (there is no separate roll maybe?) but 1 out of ten hits that auto-erases even deathwarded champs is a lot of fun. The laborious beatdowns in the new raids got me thinking about it again.

When I get the kukri I need, will ER and give it all a go to see how it works. QQ does not seem to be as efffective with TWF, especially since I have lousy DS outside shadow double and no trance boosters. This is why I am thinking SDK and tossing in a level of FvS.

Also, less know is that chains and Rapid slash do not break stealth. So one can leap into a group of mobs invisible, rapid slash for AoE and doublestrike 20, hit chains and still be in stealth and invisible. In fact, I can shadow walk too and have the faster movement and displacement; shadowwalk also remains unaffected.

Ya, my gear set is only 50% standing doublestrike, 75% with quick strike. Would get 1/7th more QQ damage under shadow double, 3/4ths of the time, for 10% or so more AoE damage. Lose a buncha defenses though.

saekee

there is a sun augment trinket coming in the next pack with insightful doublestrike on it; I am planning on it for the 15% artifact plus the seven for a single item boosting DS heavily.

The LGS sun augment is giving some type of stacking 6% crit damage and not the 15% advertised.

Almost solo’d on Normal Threats but died in the head priest room due to low MRR. Grrr.

Technique was to buff fire absorp, switch to SD for DDoor when stacks got ridiculous, and sneak by the mobs in the first corridor. US is my third tree and Guard Up spamming helped a LOT.

edit: What makes this not so bad is the DoT while kiting. I wish there was an acid vulnerabilty shuriken; that would make life so much easier. Bring Darkness works great with this build and SD adds a chunk of spell power. It means my melee becomes worthless but I think with From the Shadows for quick Paranoia buff without even doing an epic strike (but getting the benefits) may be a real win. I need to test to see if the epic strike affects ki bolt.

Not sure how tight the AP are, but maybe go tiefling or chaosmancer, or even splash for a class that breaks immunity?

Tief if you go fire; chaosmancer would be a lot of fun. I am wondering what the monk dragon disciple will be when it comes out. Dragonborn can get some more spell power as well.
One could grab spell power even out of the harper tree. I suppose for someone with a lot of racial AP then dragonborn might be the best race.

Tall enough. I had to kite boss around 5 mins during one stage for US ultimate though. Going wide with fire resist/fire shield (cold) next. I feel with more practice this will be a 18 minute raid solo.

Ya, I wonder if Threats can be solo'd. The combat can handle easily. The dot stack with fire shield/resist can handle although may have to drop by starting room to drop stacks periodically. I don't know the mechanics of the egg and boss dragon though. I know you can beat on that first dragon quite a bit before it heals itself, but not much beyond it.

you need ddoor to return the stacks when they get too high--between fire shield and magma waders I was not taking too much on normal and could heal through a lot with guard up and renewal. Tricky part is feeling like you got to hurry on the portal guys since you want to get all three to avoid a second beatdown of the marilith. I did DDoor out after having dropped two portal keepers but found that I was still able to go through to the third one without having to hurt the marilith. I thought it was a 30second window but maybe only if you use both doors or something. If so, it makes it not so bad. I got the Stablestone and Magma waders for great absorption coverage so it is really an exercise in patience.
My toon just does not have a lot of PLs etc so missing those key defenses for such slogs.
