Korthos Vendor

I realized that Korthos is very thematically correct in making you feel the lack of resources!
Even if you want a specific normal weapon, you might not find it at the vendor!
Which actually gives a very interesting and story wise thematically nice feeling.
But in the other hand it makes a few builds to have to cross out of snowy Korthos to be played as intended.
Anyhow, I was thinking that the moment we arrive at Korthos there could be a weaponsmith, that gives us our first tutorial quest about collecting ingredients. This weaponsmith crafts for us a MW starter weapon of any kind. It is not magical, it has no properties, it can't be sold, it is just a weapon for those that need one thematically fitting to the Korthos story and their toon. Oh and returning thrown weapons please.
What we collect? I would say lumps of coil 😅 but it would be better if they simply add a Korthos metal ingot.

While a good idea, I wouldn't want it to replace Jeets giving you a weapon in his camp as your idea would force people into crafting and it needs to stay optional.

You could probably do the same with less coding, by just expanding the items Jeets offers.

Yeah it's a cool kernel of an idea, probably better to leave the first weapon from jeets as it is, and have the proposed smith in the village instead of the shipwreck area.

1) Jeet's offers a -1 weapon and this is before the Grotto and not in Korthos.
2) Cellimas offers a few more weapons as end rewards. These weapons are not magical but Masterwork and have a minor fire effect.
3) Sigmund offers a few really good options after the Collaborator which are actual magical weapons.
4) Dax (the vendor) also offers a few normal weapons.

You can see the exact available weapons here:

Jeets (Shore)
Rusty Great Axe
Rusty Heavy Mace
Rusty Longsword
Moldy Quarterstaff
Rusty Rapier
Moldy Light Crossbow and 100 Bolts
Cellimas (Grotto)
Ember Great Axe
Soren's Handwraps
Ember Heavy Mace
Ember Longsword
Ember Rapier
Ember Repeating Light Crossbow
Ember Sickle
Dax (Vendor)
Heavy Shield
Tower Shield
Dagger
Shortbow
Shortsword
Throwing Daggers (100)
Throwing Hammers (100)
Sigmund (Collaborator quest)
Molin's Great Axe
Oladren's Great Crossbow
Min's Handwraps
Valen's Mace (Heavy Mace)
Lhorne's Blade (Long Sword)
Thera's Rapier
Fintan's Bite (Scimitar)

Finally you have the randomizer :p

So there are a few things that are not represented at all. With even as a high note on the Quarterstaff which the one u get is with a -1. Even clubs are missing.

One solution would be that they add all weapons to the vendor. But I think having a weaponsmith that can make MW weapons with no other bonus would work thematically well and it could be a tutorial for a simple crafting.

Oh also, the number of mats and ease with which to get them should be laughably easy. Like really really laughably easy, for newbie-friendliness. They have so much more they could aim for later.

i like the idea of introducing crafting in the tutorial zone but also doesn't crafting need you to 1)find a magic weapon/item of a specific type you are looking for 2)use quite a bit of resources to actually craft one that's usable and 3)need a pretty substantial amount of magic items already so that you can level up your crafting to even be able to make anything at all?

You are thinking of essence crafting.
DDO has a few dozens of crafting system. The suggested one is more like the borderlands one. Find an ingredient, give it to the vendor.
It could even be a quest that you need to bring an ingredient that you find at the area.

ah then nvm borderlands already does that i can get behind the introduction of canith crafting on korthos(if they did a slight overhaul of some of the lower level stuff needed) but with boarderlands style crafting you can already get a ghostly weapon so a different system would be not be particularly useful, unless you just mean like copy pasting the npc over to korthos and just letting korthos quest end chests have a chance to drop boarder lands ingredients then that should be fine(we don't need a different new crafting system)

That would work, but it would not be thematically appropriate.

Korthos is a low resources area and I personally like that. I also like and prefer to play snowy Korthos. I would appreciate though access to our bags before we start Korthos (at least the gem bag and quivers).

So let me add two more item's to the vendor:
1 Quiver.
1 the exclusive gem bag for us to buy. Yes that is expensive for new players, but it won't be for them. It is for 2nd+ lifers that don't want to exit snowy Korthos.

Some of the weapons can even be added to the vendor, Jeets or Cellimas, or they can take a ready weapon vendor from the game and make a copy here. All these would serve the purpose for the player to play with the weapon they like.

You DO know that Borderlands isn't F2P, right?

Borderlands does this perfectly well, but it is not f2p.

I think it should be. It would make the entry to this game a lot more appealing.

Not having all possible weapons available at LEAST at the end of The Grotto is something I've always questioned. The 'Ember' weapons should have all possibilities included. A limited selection from Jeets and Dax is fine, imo. Collaborator end rewards less so. Everyone heading into the Korthos wilderness should get a Sahuagin-beater AND and an Ember weapon to use on the Cultists, undead, and animals. Good way to teach people about weapon sets (which should probably be part of Sigmund's job).

Thematically, Jeets is handing out stuff he scavenged from your sunken ship, Dax is in a hinterland where supply lines have been cut, and Sigmund is handing out family relics or the like.

Even so, having Sigmund's list pull from your proficiencies and offer you any of the weapons you can currently use would definitely be a huge improvement. No need for the unique item names, though it does provide flavor... but it's a type of flavor that's a one-off: never really happens the same way again, so why set newbies up to expect it?

Sigmund's is really offering nice weapons and I wouldn't change it there tbh.
Cellimas is the one option, which could grow the Ember weapons.
Still I like the concept of having an NPC that gets an ingredient and converts it to the weapon u ask.
Like Keep crafting but LVL 1 non magical item.
Any player that would skip korthos to enter harbor or keep can safely ignore that vendor.
Any new player can at least get the weapon they want to play with. Most probably it will be their weapon for a while :p
Finally, players like me that like the Korthos atmosphere will use it for the storytelling part.
