Updated build! Since we don't (yet) have Dragon Lord, based on the actionable feedback we've gotten - this is the best we can do until we True Reincarnate? Still open to thoughts and feedback!

Changes:
  • Remove Great Strength (x2)
  • Add Adamantine Body (thanks unbongwah)
  • Add Eerie Aim
Questions:
  • Is this the best I can do with 20 levels of Fighter?
  • Are Tumble and Intimidate the best options for secondary skills?
  • Are the Heavy Armor feats worth it?

You put 25 APs into Falconry yet dump-stat WIS? That seems...sub-optimal.

Do you have any stat tomes? It'd be nice to add Whirlwind and/or Spring Attack; and you certainly have the feats to spare. But you need DEX 13.

You may want to consider Mechanus instead of Astral Plane. Second Wind is good for emergencies but nothing beats having a Reconstruct SLA on a Warforged IMO. That or pick a third Epic Destiny which adds a healing SLA, in which case max out Healer's Friend.

Hmm. Good call. I really just wanted to extra damage against helpless opponents, the Stance giving extra Tactics DCs based on WIS as a bonus. I assumed with some gear, it wouldn't be too hard to get a few extra points. Hard to justify putting more into Base Wisdom, but that might also be a good argument for swapping Falconry out for something else.

It'd be nice to add Whirlwind and/or Spring Attack;

Whirlwind would be nice. Blasting out Quick Cutter + Primal Scream from the Fury of the Wild tree has been a ton of fun. So it'd be nice to get more AoE. Would it be worth dropping the Heavy Armor feats for the two Whirlwind feats?

Spring Attack's a harder sell. I should have a +3 DEX tome, but it'd still require two dead feats (Dodge, Mobility) then 10 Base DEX. Think it's worth it? Plus, we're already getting a lunge Dire Charge from the Legendary Dreadnought tree (but shares a cooldown with Quick Cutter), though it does have some nice additional crowd control effects.

Second Wind is good for emergencies but nothing beats having a Reconstruct SLA

True! Second Wind + Liquid Courage was really nice at mid-Epics, but it's starting to get weaker and weaker in practice. I've been using the healing on Primal Scream which has been quite nice. I just noticed that Mechanus gives Reconstruct! That's pretty sweet - certainly jealous of Bladeforged for getting that in their T2 tree.

Dodge + Mobility raise your Dodge and max DEX bonus (Adamantine Body needs all the help it can get); also Mobility gives an extra Tumble charge. So I wouldn't call them "dead" feats anymore. And they unlock both Whirlwind and Spring Attack.

I was thinking something like this:
WF THF Kensei Falconer
Fighter 20
Neutral Good Warforged

  • Inner Focus

    2. Hail of Blows
UMD for the usual reasons, 10 ranks of Tumble adds another Tumble charge.

Has 200% Strikethrough by level 22: 20% base + 120% THF feats x3 + 20% Great Weapon Aptitude + 30% PTHF + 10% Hail of Blows. Guaranteed three hits per swing.

IIRC Expose Weakness' Fortification debuff still procs even if the mob saves vs the bird's DC. But if I'm wrong, well, that's another AP to spend elsewhere.

Core combat combo vs mobs is something like Spring Attack -> Trip|Sunder|Stunning Blow (which can Strikethrough) -> Quick Cutter -> Whirlwind Attack (if any survive QC  ).

Adding TWF Specialty and swapping to dual scimitars would be a big boost to single-target DPS at levels 31+ with minimal effort IMO. Though whether it's worth farming new weapons depends on how long you plan to spend in Legendaries.

Thanks for putting that whole build together! Really appreciate it.

Oh wow! I didn't even notice that both skills have gotten an upgrade since last I check! Very cool.

Taking Whirlwind (instead of Cleave + Greater Cleave) now looks very compelling now.

Some follow-up quest:
  1. Thoughts on the "Patience" feat? I've seen some debate it's impact.
  2. Is "Construct Exemplar" is just for the +20 repair amp?
  3. Can you really just pickup "Two Weapon Specialty" and swap between THF and TWF!? Is it as simple as that?

The rule of thumb for Patience is the wider your critical threat range, the more valuable it becomes. So presuming you use falchions or Sword of Shadow, your crit range is gonna be 14-20; that's worth taking Patience IMO, especially when you remember it's also gonna boost your damage from special attacks like Quick Cutter etc. which aren't affected by the attack speed penalty. OTOH Ying says Patience isn't worth it for handwrap monk, because they have low critical threat range and handwraps' forte is its high attack speed: for one thing, faster hits means faster ki regeneration.

Construct Exemplar is +20 repair amp +10 MRR. I took it at 30 since that's also when I grab Mechanus for the Reconstruct SLA. Feel free to take something else, but there's not really any DPS feats left at that point, apart from Eerie Aim which I have at level 33. EDIT: and if you ever decide to swap GMoF for Macrotechnic, you'll gain an extra +10 PRR from Sprockets.

The whole point to the level 31 Weapon Specialty feats is to make it possible to add a second combat style to your build, either to diversify your weapon options or add complementary feats, e.g., heroic SWF feats + Perfect Shield Mastery for a Swashbuckler, or SWF feats + THF Mastery for a SWF dwarven axe user.

2H weapons are great for leveling and AoE damage, but fall off against single targets, especially in Legendaries. Heavy Blades weapon group also includes scimitars which will have 14-20 crit range too, so it's an obvious secondary TWF set which doesn't require an extra feat (e.g., Knight's Training for longswords). IMO it's just a Band-Aid for the real issue of endgame DPS balance, but you work with the tools you got.

Well that's quite cool! Looks like you can take the Epic Destiny Feat: Two Weapon Specialty for +60% offhand strike chance. Compare that to the standard route of Two Weapon Fighting, Improved Two Weapon Fighting, and Greater Two Weapon Fighting (17 DEX) for a +80% offhand strike chance. Is the difference really that small? That becomes a very compelling option just to give this build some flexibility to swap between THF for Epics, and TWF for more single-target damage.

Considering I only have an Epic Sword of Shadows as my primary weapon right now, I wouldn't be opposed to making a set of Dino Bone Scimitars (or something else) for this, and future lives...

Related, you list "Perfect Two Weapon Fighting" in the above build, but I don't think the pre-reqs are met? It would just be the single Two Weapon Specialty feat that unlocks the secondary fighting style?

Update, our learnings so far:
  • We just unlocked Unquenchable Rage on Primal Scream, and that's when this build really comes online. Since I now have Second Wind + Primal Scream for healing, and that's a decent amount of self-sustaining healing for most cases.
  • Lay Waste from the Dreadnought tree applied to the Dire Charge Epic Strike is also a lot of fun.
  • Primal Scream + Whirlwind finally adds the amount of AoE that our fighter build was previously missing.
  • Spring Attack as a melee attack is underwhelming, but it's a fun little bonus ability that we end up using all the time just for the movement speed bonus when running around quests.
Next up - we're desperately in need of some better gear. Likely going to farm out Part of the Family set, along with whatever other sets/upgrades we can get our hands on. At the moment, we have eSoS, Epic Cape of the Roc, Epic Hyena Necklace, Epic Gloves/Bracers of the Claw, Epic Red Dragonscale Docent, and a few other misc. hear acquired from a long time ago. But our damage just can't compare to the allies we're running with. So, more work needed there...

Update:
  1. This build is fine. Nothing spectacular, but not the worst.
  2. Legendary Rally + Quick Cutter + Whirlwind + Primal Scream does wonders adding much needed AoE damage. The only downside is most of these options come online really late in the build.
If I was to do this build again? I think it would be better as a Dragon Lord, but Kensei Fighter is what I had access to in the moment!
