Lag and Server Instances

I agree that we don't know anything for sure, but that includes we don't know for sure the server #'s aren't part of it. Note the "server 14" problem in Clifftop Wednesday night (see above).

Busy public areas like Clifftop don't clear out very often, and if the the "garbage loop" thing strikes and freezes the instance, it can last for ages as people zone in there frequently. (and they were stacking up at the zone in point Weds Night)

It sure looks like it's more of a "garbage loop" thing than that it's overall processing load. Sure, auras and pets are still there, but compared to raid moments there's less process going on and instances still freeze up.

But when there is an overflow of people the area will spawn a new instance (Marketplace-1, Marketplace-2). Does that not happen in Sharn?

I do not know how this is coded, nobody does but if the server instances are self-contained in some way and the garbage loop runs within and is associated to the server instance then yes it makes sense then why a particular server instance would run poorly but not be the cause of the issue.

Trying to explain it plainly it would be that a server instance running like crap is a Symptom of the issue not the cause. Sev commented on why server instances are not a thing but I cannot find the post, it was over a year ago and in relation to Cormyr.

It probably does, but you'd probably still be stuck with Clifftop-1 being a dud for a while.

That's potentially even the direction for a fix if they can detect the garbage loop thing in real time, they could start punting incomers into instance-2 .

Sometimes I've considered multi-boxing a bunch more accounts just to force a 2nd instance of a public instance heh. Especially sucks when you want to get to vecna and just have to get THROUGH sharn.

It all started with the changes to tumble...
Its been sabotage since then
It's been done to reduce lag, as for multishot/multistrike/dualweild/attack speed/fun mechanics.
I wonder if they pay their designer, because if they do, they are throwing away sooo much cash...
90% of the playerbase here would be a far better designer than their best one.

Why is the player base engaging in all this in-depth analysis of the lag problem? What is it changing? We're players, not junior developers. If all this talk resulted in something that actually benefitted my gameplay, I'd feel differently. But for now, I log in, I play, I lag to the point of unplayability, I quit.

SSG, hire a Guilfoyle and gets things back to normal. That's your responsibility. Playing the game and buying stuff is ours. Nothing more.

Back when Cormyr first opened, lag was awful. It took a bit of investigation, but they determined that some scripts were written to overcome the slowness of the old 32 bit server performance. Once the same content was run on the new 64 bit world (that was performing much faster than the old 32 bit world), those scripts tweaked to overcome the 32 bit slowness now caused problems on these new faster servers. My guess is there are now similar problems they just haven't found yet.

Because it has been nearly 2 months....and we are still banging our heads against a wall.

Because IT armchair quarterbacks think they can diagnose foundational game issues better than SSG, even though they know nothing about the architecture. I can't decide if that's worse, or the superstitious players who still tell the group/raid to recall if it's i2049.

Yesterday I was one of 12 doing their Sunday evening raids.
Happy me.

Weird thing was, as voice was coming over Discord, that the rest of the party seemed 2 or 3 seconds ahead of me play wise.

LoL they do, but the complete series of Illithid quests (Stolen Power, Pilgrim's Peril etc.) vanish on all but the first, so you have to switch until they show up.

The update from a couple weeks ago seems to have helped a lot. Now getting bits of lag but they're mot like 5-10 sec chunks.

Entered a quest in chill and it was a bit laggy, so we turned around and reset it, but we PROBABLY could've powered through it. Just didn't think it was worth it to keep pushing through it. Besides that though, none of the quests we've run in the past few weeks, ~20-30 of them, maybe more, were bad enough to make us leave and reset.

Now, some PUBLIC zones were pretty laggy and we all chose to move to instance-2, or run something else. But even that only took a minute or so to get out, instead of the 5+ min from before. Now that's still pretty bad...needing a min just to switch instances of a town lol, but better!

Lagged like heck today during raids, had to quit Threats due to lag wipe, checked new instances for lag before starting raids, horribad lag freezes in Ravenloft 1, Devil's Gambit, you name it.

People were quitting due to lag. I wanted to run RL2 but nope.

It's gotten a smidgen better the last 3 weeks but a smooth running gaming experience is a *long ways* off at this pace.

When does the compensation for time lost and long duration potions burned start?
