Gotta agree with this. DDO is highly idiosyncratic in play choices.

For instance, there are only a few reasons I run a quest and "it's new" is not there:
  • It has an item I need for a build
  • It gives favor I need to TR (coin & bank)
  • It gives Legendary RXP and is part of a saga I can bank for ER
  • It gives a TON of XP for reaching cap quickly
  • It unlocks one of the above
For whatever reason, DDO doesn't trigger explorer mode for me. At present, DDO is all about making characters for raiding. BTW, ESO, Aion, GW2, Wildstar, SWL, and EQ1 set off explore mode. Tera and FFXIV did not.
I agree DDO does not encourage exploration like many MMOs of its kind... in fact, since I started playing DDO I never considered it a traditional MMO, but this does not mean that it is a bad thing, on the contrary, it can have its strengths and weaknesses, I would see it mostly almost like a Diablo or a Path of Exile but simpler to understand and play. Yes DDO has its complexities but in my experience compared to a PoE or a Diablo it is not complicated to build a character...especially if you use the right tools like DDO Builder etc...

ok the #99 post i made was unfriendly @Celestrata Bloodsong , sorry about that, what i said still stands but i was missing a very important point. a critical point. the point is, i play since 2011 and i don't remember anyone talking about ddo store stuff like you are doing. so, thank you. even if i am wrong and i misremember, it is really refreshing and comforting to read what you are sharing, about someone that actually is working on it and has plans. the ddo store looks more like a flooded abandoned warehouse than a store, but at least now there's someone working on it, and sharing ideas and plans for it. you are communicating the feeling that now there is a caretaker.

thank you.

totally unrelated and unasked for, for the fun hehehe, this is what my brain sends back if i ask it to cross-search marketing with horror tales.

"What if we sold you a whole expansion, but released it one quest per month?"
Same issue. Access. They're chopping the populace up into smaller and smaller pieces, each with it's own access and the Venn diagram of full intersection keeps getting smaller.

For that model, I'd only buy a quest when it had a drop I wanted and otherwise completely ignore it. I might buy quests in a full set if they were part of a nice saga, but atm there are so many Legendary sagas that I don't need more.

Case in point: I've not run any of the new free quests. I have too much to do in game already, they're not part of a saga, and they don't have useful drops.

IMHO, do the regular expansion thing, but change the sales model so the ONLY thing you can buy is the latest expansion and it includes access to the ENTIRE game. This helps solve the fractionated access problem rather than exacerbating it.

Then add little mini-packs for the now missing old packs with the extra features ala carte for those that want old pets, mounts, skins, teleport clickies, etc..
