Lanterns in the Mist advice

I started the event yesterday before seeing the Lanterns in the Mist wiki page. I did grab some lanterns but not all. I had a Mist Stalker in my first Korthos quest which went fine. I did three quests and used a lucky gold roll XP die to advance to 2nd. Then I realized I couldn't get any other skull lanterns as I was no longer level 1. Time to restart!

Before I go much further, I'd like some advice from those who have played the event thus far.

1. How have you strategized filling your lantern? From what I can tell, you can only fill one lantern at a time. Do you round robin all the lanterns? I saw they get a minimum level once they get filled to a point. Do you work on a single lantern until it's filled and then do the rest?

2. Any tips, tricks, or advice you'd give to someone starting the event? What would you have liked to know when starting out?

Thanks!

First decide which reward you want, then fill just that one. Going roundrobin is a bad idea since you will lose all on death for hardcore lanterns.

Not really - the only similarity to previous hardcore seasons is the world announcement message. If you die with a skull lantern equipped, a typical hardcore death message is broadcast. Upon character death, any equipped skull lanterns or skull lanterns in inventory will disappear, along with all progress made on those lanterns towards the skull versions of the cosmetic award. Your character can release to a tavern, or be raised by other characters in the quest and continue on to finish the quest. After a death, you can equip a non-skull lantern, and work to fill it up.

If you die without the skull lantern equipped, I don't believe there is a death message, the lantern just disappears. Regular lanterns give no message, regardless of whether they are equipped or in inventory.

If you are still level 1 when you die you can get another skull lantern. The other thing is to get all the skull lanterns because I don't think you can get another after you fill one unless you TR.

Also, be careful in Temple of Chaos, I got a mist with minions and in addition to that all the allies turned on me including the gnolls that I hadn't joined with yet.

A tip I would add is to not do quest with cut scenes or areas that you are no in control of your character. At the very least take the lantern off, so it doesn't spawn.

Captive of the Hidden God and Trials of the Triceratops are both quest that spawned mist during the cutscene. ToT it happened during the slide to the final fight.
