Lanterns in the Mist Event

Tolero in her most recent video chat with Cordovan did say that Hardcore would be returning in future.

This event is taking place instead of one HC season, but it is not a replacement for HC itself.
From what I remember they never made a clear statement that it would be returning. It could return at some point though. All depends on how this event goes and how the new server will perform.
Personally I don't see it happening anything soon if the 64bit server is a succes. Not within a year or two. They will focus on making money with the new VIP server. Can't go back to adding old 32 bit servers with Hardcore that performs less good and will empty the VIP server again... For players who already recently spend all their money on new characters and guild on VIP server. And they can't put the new 64bit server on Hardcore because players don't want to lose their new characters from this Lantern event.

Mixing hardcores (death stops the event), softcores (in event, but death does not stop) and others not even in the event on the same server and in the same groups is going to be... interesting.

I wonder how that dynamic will be playing out. Will the soft- and non-cores be used as helpers for the hard-cores, or will the hardcores avoid the others for risk of being killed by those not needing to be cautious? Also, will the non-cores decide not to group with the soft- and hardcores to avoid having to deal with the Mist Walkers?

It certainly will be much less clean than actual hard-core, so it will be interesting to see how the dynamics play out. I will be watching from the sideline though as I wont be participating. I am VIP just not interested as I prefer to play my regular characters and am not into cosmetics/pets/mounts.

Oh well, the lantern event is a serious disappointment. I'm not interested at all as it is not even close to an HC replacement.

Hope those who play it have fun!

There is no reason why the next Hardcore Server wouldn't be 64-bit, nor any reason why players should be unable to transfer characters out from Hardcore as usual.

Characters on Cormyr will not be "lost". Once the previews and playtests are done, and as soon as the server opens on Live for the event, it will be a permanently available server, and characters created on that server will be persistent, including those who will participate in the event.

A few thoughts:

1. Only one person in a party has to have a Lantern equipped for Mist Stalkers to spawn? What if the others aren't part of the event?

2. Further to 1., if a MS spawns, can you only fight it if you have a Lantern equipped?

3. If you have something else in your Trinket slot and your Lantern is in inventory and a MS is killed, does your Lantern advance?

4. Could we get the kind of flexibility there is in Slave Lords items (chains, rings, shackles), and allow them to be equipped in multiple gear slots? Making the Lantern Trinket-only limits gear Tetris. At the very least, Trinket and Ring (like Slave Lords Rings); could even make the Ring *green. :)

You're not really getting my points and misunderstanding what I say. You're assuming they can magically add more 64bit servers while they haven't even released the first one. The upcoming 64bit server still needs a lot of testing and reviewing data after launch. So if you want Hardcore to come back soon it has to be on a 32bit server like it always has been. There won't be a 64bit server ready for Hardcore within a year or even two. They need a lot more time to review the data from Cormyr before they add more 64bit servers. The only 64bit server available now is Cormyr. And they can't change that into a Hardcore server after the Lanterns event because that would need it to be a fresh start again.
Also if they bring back Hardcore too soon it will drain all the players from Cormyr again and it will be a dead server. And possibly make Cormyr unstable. SSG will do anything to prevent that because Cormyr is their new money maker (people start over buying tomes, xp pots, otto's, guild ships, reason to stay VIP etc.). So no, there won't be any Hardcore soon on a 64bit server.
That's why they said it could return at some point. I don't think they ever made a promise it would return in the future. All depends on how it will go with Cormyr.

They don't earn any lantern progress. And possibly killsteal the enemies before they are in your range so you don't earn any progress either.

g. When a Mist Stalker is killed only lanterns within 45 meters will benefit.

Curious how this will work out for ranged & casters (knowing that you are within that distance?

Not sure about any of the rewards until we see them anyway
According to DDOWiki:
"For Offensive spells and targeted buff spells with standard range, the actual range is about double a standard buff AOE, so roughly 30 feet."
30' is approximately 10m
So standard spell range is 10m and Enlarge doubles that to 20m.

Which leaves the question open for Ranged (whose range is only limited by draw distance) and ray spells (I THINK they start at double standard range, which would mean 40m Enlarged and keep them within the 45m limit.).

Isn't that... exactly what the first post in this thread is?

What server(s) is this happening on?

When is it happening?

What account(s) can play?

These are the very most basic questions about the event. Player comments and speculation are fine, but what is the official word? I would like to see that information in the official announcement describing the event.

It's fine. I have already given up and lost interest.

Cormyr will open starting Thursday October 10th at 11am until 5:00pm Eastern (-4 GMT) on Friday, October 11th. Cormyr can be accessed via the Lamannia game launcher. Note that Lamannia itself will not be open for this preview.

Where I think these mechanics will be a pita is with zergers. Some players running Monks and other characters with inherent run speed bonuses can be VERY hard to keep up with, even with 30% striding. There's a distinct risk those players are going to kill Mist Stalkers before the players behind them are in range, at least some of the time.

They've answered ALL of these questions in the OP.

That was the real question: Can they see and/or harm the Mist Stalkers?

In other words, does one person running the event subject everyone else in their party to its mobs? And can they essentially spawn MS and use others to do the heavy lifting of killing them? Will the MS only attack those with Lanterns, or will regular aggro rules apply?

Cosmetics are cool and all but you know what I would really love as top end rewards for these events?
The 'option' to choose account awards in leu of cosmetics if you prefer.
Character slots, shared bank increases, character inventory increases ... as an option to fancy cloak #24

Oh. Also. They should have made the 'lantern' a cosmetic item that fits in one of the cosmetic slots. I guess they forgot that cosmetic items are treated as magic items by their own game, which is the reason we cannot have cosmetic storage. Remember putting Festival Cold and Fire protection on your armor and helms during the ski jump event? The thing we were not supposed to do. *wink wink*

As for the event mechanics, I see a serious flaw.
1 person with the lantern should not trigger a fight for other party members that don't have said lantern and will not benefit from it.
Keep it simple, You can not enter a dungeon with player party members unless they ALSO have the correct lantern in the trinket slot and participate.
If one player party member does not have the lantern in the trinket slot, the event turns off for that dungeon.
Period.
All or nothing.

We'll see how it goes.

I'm hoping that equipping a lantern will produce a visual that all can see.
