I was originally curious (but disinterested) in another HC or HC-like event. Requiring an equiped item utterly killed it, especially the trinket slot (most valuable slot). 5! of them is annoying.

BTW, I doubt stealing an item slot will deter those eager for an HC-like event, but it is a negative. An even bigger negative is no free transfer off the server when the event ends.

Likely late for feedback, but if you make the lanterns CC-blanks like Gem of Many Facets, my objection to loosing a slot vanish.

Close your eyes. Imaginaterize with me.

Now, picture in your mind's eye... event lantern weapons.

Did it get worse?

95% sure at this point that which cosmetic slot it goes in will have no functional change to game mechanics. It's a question of what cosmetics visuals you will be forgoing till you finish your event goals. I mention the shield slot because that cosmetic only draws if your using a shield and many builds don't.
Well in that case, shield would be fine. I was under the understanding that if you have a cosmetic shield equipped but then equip an actual gear item that conflicts with that cosmetic such as an orb or an offhand weapon then the cosmetic shield does NOT display and you get a message, perhaps more than once that "such and such cannot be displayed because..." of said item conflict. But if that is not the case, and this lantern can be made a cosmetic widget that ALWAYS displays while equipped no matter what you have or don't have in your offhand slot then - Awesome!

The Free to Play Quest is completely unfun. It is beyond unfun. it is painful to play. The concept of sneaking around, okay, however when the bad guy can detect you while they are stopped at the far end of a room with four plants in a diamond between you and them, while sneaking with a +77 to hide, than being frozen in place for four or five seconds so they can run to you and get one shot for 10,392 points of damage isn't fun. When it happens repeatedly it is painful.

Complained back on 9/11 about Zuria's dialog box... still says "Which Lantern do you choice to bear?" and still says the 5th option as "5. The Lantern of Keepers" (the clickable option has the missing "the").

Cosmetic shield slot sounds good to me!

If we changed lantern to a cosmetic slot which slot would be preferable....shield?
Instead of using the trinket slot? Shoot, sure. I'd take any cosmetic slot for sure. Shield is probably the least used (that's a guess, maybe y'all might have data that will tell you). Beyond that, no preference from me.

My vote would be cloak. That way it gets away from the confusion of twf, sword and board or two handed fighting.

wow am surprised devs are backing down from an active trinket slot.

Anyway head, armor and weapons are great cosmetic spots (even shield for some folks) whereas cloak is often turned off. So I vote cloak, but hey…

Shield/orb slot would work but that also means someone can hide that they are using it, if it had a visual to show use then yes. If it can't then I would suggest Helm slot for greatest visibility or Unique cloak (maybe with sparkles?) added to it?

EDIT: This is in reference to Cosmetic Slot use.

There was a spot where I only barely made it to a restaurant shrine. Agree not fun

Trinkets don't have a visual, which implies lanterns do not. Lantern could do it anyway with a cosmetic visual similar to how Summer Crown buff has a cosmetic. Actual Helm or Cloak slot would be horrifically bad due to set breaking.

For cosmetics, I'd say I use weapon > armor > hat (usually just turn this off) > cloak (usually off). Since I almost never play 2H builds, the OH (Shield) Slot nearly always has a cosmetic.

However, on HC, I rarely bother with cosmetics. IMHO, as Cormyr is a temporary event server, I think it's safe to use whatever cosmetic best fits the event.
