Lanterns in the Mist Event

Helmet.

Put the lantern above your head to light the way.
Not a bad idea, the only issue I have is how the lantern could still serve as a warning. right now it comes out and floats above your head when a mist walker is about to spawn. This might be as obvious if it was already there

Trinkets don't have a visual, which implies lanterns do not. Lantern could do it anyway with a cosmetic visual similar to how Summer Crown buff has a cosmetic. Actual Helm or Cloak slot would be horrifically bad due to set breaking.

For cosmetics, I'd say I use weapon > armor > hat (usually just turn this off) > cloak (usually off). Since I almost never play 2H builds, the OH (Shield) Slot nearly always has a cosmetic.

However, on HC, I rarely bother with cosmetics. IMHO, as Cormyr is a temporary event server, I think it's safe to use whatever cosmetic best fits the event.
My answer was in context with Torc asking about cosmetic slot for use, not equipment slot. Made an edit to clarify original post.

95% sure at this point that which cosmetic slot it goes in will have no functional change to game mechanics. It's a question of what cosmetics visuals you will be forgoing till you finish your event goals. I mention the shield slot because that cosmetic only draws if your using a shield and many builds don't.
Well, any slot that would let you have the lantern visual appear on the character I guess.

So I ran it a bit. Prequest was easy to sneak through.
The lanterns are really cool.

I took my toon into a few different quests: Eyes of Stone, Framework, Siegebreaker, SPiders and Flies, Wild Thing.

What I found is that if I was in stealth, the Mist creatures DID NOT ACTIVATE! When I went back to the same locations out of stealth, they spawned. So this is a bummer; is it WAI?

I was in EE and dropped them easily enough. Had about 25 pts on my lantern. Progress will be SLOW.

I do not understand 7f in the OP and if it is what I think it is, why have it? It seems a challenge for any level character.

IMHO, 7F looks to prevent not taking levels in order to farm a particularly easy quest to fill lantern. An alternative with the same result would be to deny lantern progress (and spawn) unless you can get favor for that quest.

7F I expect has something to do with the lantern becoming more powerful as it repairs. I'm not sure what effects it will gain, but maybe they do not want you to be able to farm up a massively powerful item at low level.
Currently my Lantern of the Seekers is just Deathblock, but who knows what it gets later.

I wonder what would happen to the stats if it was a cosmetic. 'Course there's always quiver slot, though that gets in the way of the (nearly mandatory) L29 quiver for ranged.

I will throw my hate in the ring for the Shield Slot as well!

And I agree with everyone, that "intro" quest is crazy hard.. Even doing the mechanics, he seemed to see me a lot while hiding.. It was worse on my Warlock.. But my Dark Hunter did a bit better, still super hard.. I understand the concept of what you're doing here, but I think you really need to "tone" this one down, or something.. it was to the point of Frustration...

  1. Regular Lanterns. These lanterns are bind to character and can be banked, but not shared bank, traded, auctioned or mailed.
    1. Lantern of the Pledge - Easy to Fill. Reward - Cosmetic Half Cloak of the Order of the Guardian

    2. Lantern of the Order - Long to Fill. Only Advances on Reaper Difficulty. Reward - Cosmetic Full Cloak of the Order of the Guardian

    3. Lantern of the Shield - Medium length to fill. Reward - Cosmetic Shield of the Order

    4. Lantern of the Seeker - Very Long to Fill. Reward - Mist Stalker Sabertooth Mount

    5. Lantern of the Keepers - Medium length to fill. Reward - Magical Lantern Cosmetic Pet
Pledge: 750, Order: 1500, Shield: 1500, Seeker: 2000, Keepers: 1500
Based on your verbiage I would think Shield and Keepers to be fewer than Order, unless the presumption of increased length is due to it only gaining in reaper.

If we changed lantern to a cosmetic slot which slot would be preferable....shield?
How about a quiver? It's not like any of us are going to have the Quiver of Alacrity on that server, and I know I'm not running Ascension Chamber on a hardcore character.

Someone already suggested that it displays like the memorial ribbon as a floating

This would help with groups too because you’d know if someone had lanterns on it could be dim when no stalker then glow when one was close

Any cosmetic slot would be fine with me

I would invest a real item to get a real item. and I wouldn't mind using a cosmetic even without a cool visual to get a cosmetic item. but I'd never use a real slot to get a cosmetic item. I see a logical connection :)
So you should only get a bow reward if you used a bow in the quest? No. There's no logical connection there. If there were, then the other events that give cosmetic rewards.. shouldn't.

Some trinkets have a visual: Ioun stones, for example.

So clearly they CAN, which is what matters.

Shield would fit the theme if you're supposed to be carrying it.
But ideally, I think consensus is that we want the fact that someone in the party is or isn't carrying a lantern to be a visible effect.

I don't use shield cosmetics. Can it be programmed to show the lantern regardless of what is (or isn't) in the offhand (weapon, shield, orb, runearm, nothing...)?

Played the event for a bit last night. I rolled a new character and did maybe 7-8 quests. Killed a few mistwalkers.

Absolutely move the lantern to a cosmetic slot. Sucks really bad to lose gear slots just b/c you're participating in the event. This 100% needs to change. Cosmetic shield slot as Cordovan brought up sounds like the best choice if it isn't possible to just create a new slot for lanterns. Is it possible to just let us choose the slot? That'd be even better.

Make the required Hall of Heroes lantern quest shorter or let people skip it. Most people are going to just want to just grab their lanterns and go. I understand it's for story reasons which is cool but it's a little long considering its purpose. The sneak parts are interesting and I'd like to see that in a regular quest but just not here.

Felt like it took too long for mistwalkers to spawn. Should probably speed that up. In 7-8 quests I didn't see any unless I intentionally slowed down or went afk, I ran them on elite. Granted Borderlands quests and Korthos quests are short, which is what I ran, but there's gonna be a lot of quests where people don't see them if the spawn time holds true. Some people can zerg quests really really fast and there's a lot of quests in the game you can complete in say, 5 minutes or less.

I would recommend taking the latern hall of heroes teleport NPC off the veteran status boat. I teleported to the Hall of Heroes from the vet status boat with my new level 1 character immediately, realized after taking the latern port I could no longer get back to the Korthos beach to run the Grotto. Therefore I had zero gear and no weapon. People starting new characters without established characters to pass stuff through the shared bank are going to have to punch rats in their underwear to start if they also do this. Since the event requires a level 1 start anyway, just don't make it available until after the Grotto.

Also, put a teleporter back to Korthos next to the lantern NPCs in the Hall of Heroes please so level 1 characters can get back to the starter area after grabbing their lanterns, without having to run all the way there from the Hall of Heroes.
