Launcher seen as a virus, no reinstall possible either

Hi there, My Antivirus (kaspersky) found DDOlauncher.exe was a urgent threat and cleaned it, no longer use and executable.
Actually it found out the .exe looks like a trojan from his watchlist.
I tried to reinstall, but the same issue reappeared.
I tried to install from Steam without Antivirus protection, and the install worked, then upgrade get stuck at start with this error
PatchClientDLL::CheckDatFiles Failed
Same when trying to install outside of steam from DDOlive
Any clue or previous same issue to refer pls ?

I think you'd need to do an exclusion on your antivirus.

My guess is that because the game is so niche, and SSG are not known for updating digital signatures/certificates, etc, it's more or less a false positive.

Ok its a good point to start, I'll clean the directory then
I'll make a proper reinstall without the antivirus running, then add directory and .exe to exclusions and verify.
Thx for suggestions I'll go work on it.

Ok reinstallation is perfect, game launches and works fine without antivirus active.
I added the directories and the DnDlauncher.exe to exclusions, but this does not work - as soon as I reactivate antivirus it gets the file (and all its version I tried to save) and put it in quarantine.
Right now it is either playing DDO with antivirus inactive, or seeing the .exe removed and put to blame^^

Ok I think I cheated the exclusion issue by reactivating antivirus after I confirmed Windows the unknown editor of the file can be trusted (at game launch by steam) and remains ingame.
Other .exe I saved have been put to quarantine, but at least the right one in the game directory seems to stay put and game launches.
I'll still re up the issue to support services just in case might help others or me again.
Thx for suggestion Vox.

I’m having these same issue. I contacted Kaspersky and they tried the work around of adding to trusted, unblocking, etc and nothing worked. I sent them a copy of the files and screenshots of error for them to look at but haven’t heard back yet. If I pause Kaspersky it runs fine. I’ll update when I hear back but I played DDO yesterday afternoon and it ran fine with Kaspersky but didn’t a few hours later. Not sure if something went wrong on DDO end with what Vox was saying but hope DDO or Kaspersky fixes the issue soon.

You should probably report this to your antivirus vendor so they can hopefully try and prevent it recurring

Ty all for feedback, I reported it to Kaspersky and they basically answered me what Vox detected, it is pretty much an editor signature issue.
Right now for all those who want to go through here are the steps I used.
Already installed :
- Disable active anti-virus protection
- Choose either to reinstall the game or get your Dndlauncher.exe out of quarantine, it will come back to right directory
Launch DDO game, and while the DnDlauncher.exe is active put this specific .exe to Exclusion (Properties>Security>Exclusion>Add to trusted applications>select file .exe and confirm the changes)
(for more security you can backup this DnDlauncher.exe by making a copy and rename its extension in another place.. to win some time ;p)
- Relaunch active Antivirus protection, the DnDlauncher should stay put in his directory!
Relaunch game to test.
Hope it helps, worked for me - thx everyone.

Happy kebabs BTW.

As far as I can tell, DND tries to elevate it's privileges when not run as Administrator. On Windows 11, this is probably seen as an activity similar to what malicious scripts do when infecting a machine.

My solution was to start is as administrator (right click -> run as administrator) or compatibility mode -> this program needs to be run wtih admin rights or similar setting.

After this, no more complaints with Kaspersky turned on.
