Level 18 quests are a failure, or maybe we're just dumb.

After three days of farming for Level 18 Vecna items as a Level 20 posting LFMs for elite at 18-20 and getting no joiners, I conclude that level 18 quests are a lost cause. I was posting 18-22 since epic power leveling rules apply but dumbed it down to 18-20 after a while. I tried both ways. I tried for days. Otherwise, if I posted LFMs for the normal xp grind pattern, people were joining. No one joining for the quasi-epic-heroic hybrid stuff. I guess its just beyond the IQ level of DDOers to wrap collective head around quests that allow heroic and epic characters to quest together.

I've heard nothing good about Vecna and I don't think I'll get it unless it goes on super sale or free.

I also think after the level cap goes up, it's a wasted expansion.

I see what you did there
The quest list shrinks noticeably when you try to keep the game fresh by saving some chains strictly for Epics. I'm running 18's & 19's right now, including Vecna because it's new & I am enjoying the ride.

I like a few of the quests, but the problem is a lot of vecna quests are just too long compared to other stuff people normally run. The gear is only a slight improvement over sharn, so I really don't feel like regearing then.

Legendary at least there's a reason to run it (cards).

The drop rate for vecna items is awful, so why bother. It's like that on both heroic and epic. Of course before the ink is dry on my response, people will chime in about it just being RNG (or that they just ran it and got alot of drops) . As someone who has ran all of them repeatedly in full r10 groups and see people get nothing, I will tell you the drop rates are way stingy. Won't be surprised if the next expansion is just like Vecna.

Video gaming industry is unregulated. We are mushrooms to them. They can tell us that the drop rate is one thing, while it's really a fraction of what a company states.

Now let's all be good little mushrooms, get our credit cards, and buy as many astral shards for rerolls as we can.

Everybody already said this when they said the quests would be this level. They are a nice thing to run on R3 or R4 when you are level 20 though.

So people are stupid because they do not want to join your LFM?

Yeah right.

There are several good reasons to ignore heroic Vecna.

1: The set bonuses are weaker than Sharn sets, so people continue using their Sharn sets. People do not want heroic Vecna gear.

2: Pretty much everyone still banks XP to level cap, and do quests 2 levels below. People stay at 18 until max heroic XP doing lvl 16 quests, then take 20 and start doing epic quests that give 3-4 times as much XP.

3: People are saving Vecna for legendary levels and will do them in high skulls when capped for reaper XP. If you avoid doing the same quests in heroic and epic levels you get more favor every life, more DDO points.

I ran the heroic saga this past life because I enjoy the quests. I solo though (with hirelings).

As others have said, the loot and level aren't doing it any favors. Some take a bit long for the xp you get from them.

I run the walk ups on the lower levels. They are fast.

Apart from the fact that level 21 is the first epic character level in D&D, this confirms even more how pointless it was that you were not allowed to run level 16-19 quests at levels 20-23. While it might technically be an advantage to run below level 20 quests with a level 20+ character, the XP reward is not really worth it unless you have other reasons, such as favor, or you just want to run all quests in DDO frequently. Anyway, I'm glad that a developer finally changed the rule and there is now a smooth transition into epics. I personally run natural level 19 and below quests without an epic version even at level 20+ because I want to run all quests at least on R1.

However, I wonder if that hard XP cap is really needed for a level 30+ character. Apart from the fact that you get your first legendary character level at level 31, I think such a harsh restriction for players who want to run all quests in DDO is not really necessary. Even without such a restriction, I assume most players would rather run 30+ quests after they attain level 30 for more XP and double reaper XP.

It's too bad the game was designed so heroic quests become obsolete at level 20.
That was a terrible design decision when MotU first came out. If instead of seperating quests into heroic and epic the quests were just regular old level 21 quests the same way dreaming dark is a level 20 quest, everything and I mean everything would have been better.

Old epic was a difficulty level. Instead it was turned into a way to pretend "there is more content" by making quests heroic and epic and soon legendary as well and the extra difficulty level was replaced by reaper. Man it's a rabbit hole of bad decisions. A whole iceburg. People still laugh at 'epic casual' and 'reaper 1'. Which is essentially pre MotU 'epic casual'.

Watch history repeat itself with seperating quests into epic and legendary now.
