Level 18 quests are a failure, or maybe we're just dumb.

My question is, why are you farming heroic Vecna items? They are terrible. The sets are worse than Sharn sets.
I love the level 18 quests because they are the thing I go do when I etr but I won't farm them or wait for a group for them. I used to save IQ and the heroic versions of eveningstar quests for this, preping those sagas for the second ETR round.

I often played Level 19 & 18 quests on First Lifers & chars that are not good enough for Elite/Teaper and they also always level up.

They go with Sharn. Not instead of.
Sharn sets are Artifact. Vecna's are profane. They replace Ravenloft for me.

I was obviously refering to the lost purpose artifact sets. Yet I look at forbidden knowledge and I feel it's worse than both Ravenloft (has hamp/ramp/namp) AND IOD level 7 set for a five piece. You are better off using IOD+Sharn if you are caster and ravenloft+sharn if not.

Edit: heck you may be better off using abisai+sharn if caster than forbidden knowledge so you can craft a GomF

I think main issue with OPs post is that no one really sits on character level 18 or 19 for long and at 20 no one runs heroic content (unless its for favour/ a bit of fun every few dozen lives / yogooth favour for pots

More often than not i take character level 18 when i am almost 19 or well into the 18 ranks

So that means that by the time i actually take level 18, depending on the XP pot i may be running at the time, I run the following quests and bam i hit 20:

Sharn Part 2 (level 16)
Cogs Part 2 (level 16)
Collect Sharn saga
Collect Cogs Saga
Lord of Dusts Chain (level 16)

i rarely do any quest level 17 to 20 unless im bored of the above

I waited till recently to purchase Vecna with points for many reasons including Gear and Level range redundancy as others have pointed out.

I honestly enjoyed the content for it's own sake knowing I wouldn't use/need/have to farm gear from the quests.

I am about halfway through Legendary chain on my main to get cards but stopped to Heroic TR my main alt a few times /shrug.

I might get to it before MD LOL

You get a bit of a power boost at 20 and another boost at 21.

You can easily up your skulls when running 18s at 20 and 19s at 21, but I did some testing and didn't find the RXP/minute great - especially so when grouping with someone that is used to running R1 and isn't really up for higher skulls.

The reality is that the vast majority is focused on heroic and epic xp until they hit 30-32 and then focus on rxp at that level with double rxp and first-time bonuses.

Nobody wants to join an elite lfm any more. If you bump it to R1 or R2 you will get takers, but based on my experience if you post an lfm higher than that for leveling you get fewer joiners - so if you are looking to fill a party while leveling run R1 or R2. If you want to run above or below that you will either be soloing or shortmanning.

I run vecna heroics every life, on reaper. Maybe there is a c2 sharn running! Guess what, maybe I didn't finish/do c1 yet. Or somewhere post-start in high road or druids?

Vecna is walkup and pick your quest, start to finish. You can join any in-progress vecna run and still get exp and count towards cards/exp/whatever you want out of the saga.

You can opt to run it at 18, or do whatever, but ultimately it is still good exp, and its not the same old same old that some people do every single life.

SOME of the heroic gear in vecna is worth using though!

You think logic has anything to do on a game with two ladder bugs, six different types of evil damage, mushrooms being unclickable doors and moving platforms being NPCs that cause lag?

Yeah, I just gave up and dusted off old Turncoat, the clothing armor for Part of the Family (I'm centered). Didn't quite manage to get 5 Forbidden Knowledge items to try with it, but as folks say, they crap. Regarding R1 I guess I am still wearing some old elephant repellant from back in the day when heroic and epic toons couldn't both enter an 18 or 19 quest on Reaper. Apparently the old elphant repellant is not needed, although I'm not seeing any elephants so it must be working.

it's like every expansion, get all your gear the first month or so before they cut the drop rates :)

What are you all talking about using Sharn or Vecna sets... i use Feywild to 10, then remember i have IoD and get that with maybe few ravenloft items... then proceed to level to 30 like that.

You can go 1-30 naked as well. It's been done. On freakin hardcore, too

I pretty much did that getting my main to epic completionist, 157 RP, but now I'm putting a new toon through grinder and deciding to stop the madness :D
