List of Current S-tier builds...

TBF, they're saying that you can knock down the difficulty to make any build work, whereas the first one is presumably saying that for high difficulties, good gear and good build matter.
For sure, thats my point. The goalpost keeps moving. The OP asked for "most effective" bullds and the poster I quoted pulled a sleight of hand and substituted effectiveness with something completely different.

I think you'll find that that's different people.........

I hope you can see that its not different people that I am refering to.

Here are two posts from the same poster, the first is from a thread about past lives and the second is from this thread about builds.
I look forward to reading the gymnastics for this one.
"Adjust difficulty setting relative to whatever that build, gear, and one's skill supports and enjoy." Almost like the quote you copied summed it up. Every build can be nice as long as person is willing to run a difficulty that works with it. The OP asked for "most effective" and that means nothing without context, most effective for what? I gave the response that's most effect for enjoyment of the game, play what sounds fun, adjust the difficulty to what works.

But once again, by all means, post your builds that you think will answer the question the OP asked.

That is absolutely hilarious. There is no way you can type that with a straight face.

Just to make it more clear how ridiculous your response is consider this exchange:

Poster 1: Help me make my build kill mobs faster.
Poster 2: Lower the difficulty setting and your build kills much faster. You are welcome!

Please describe or link the your vote for the currently most effective build(s). Feel free to list more than one. Bonus if you say how it would change as you move through different stages of the game.

I'll try to compile everyone's suggestions below, or will maybe make a poll of the top several.
Thanks!

Most effective at what? Cooking pancakes? Driving ice cream trucks? Cleaning pools? You have to be more specific or your post is completely unintelligible.

except... the OP didn't ask for help to kill mobs faster, they asked for builds with a single qualifier that is overly broad in the context of ddo.

dps isn't actually everything. Shocking I know.
There is also DC casting (instakills, crowd control)
There is also tanking
There is also healing
There is also various levels of support and debuffing

So of course the first responses are going to be "effective at what" or "what are you personally looking for".

I absolutely agree. But the first reponse was not that, it was that build doesnt matter because you can always just lower the difficulty setting, with the assumption that "effective" refered to "effective of fun and completely unrelated to any game mechanics, interactions, stats, contribution, progression rate etc".

I think there was a hope to compile a bunch of S- tier builds and just type out in which context they are S-tier; tanking, healing, leveling, push raid, high reaper etc etc. It was derailed in the very first response.

Though you’ve done a lot of talking, and misrepresenting intelligent responses, you’ve been unable to do what you‘ve finally identified as a way forward: issue a list. What a shame we had to read all of that to get nowhere. It looks like the ideas you argued with along the way actually helped you come to the conclusion where the rest of us started.

To the OP, as RabidFox pointed out, you might want to make sure the builds you review come with a description of the builds’ ultimate purpose. An S-Tier build meant to lock down trash in an R10 raid push will be an F-Tier build when used to get racial pastlives.

Good luck though, it‘d be nice to have an updated list of decent builds.

One of the things I have wondered about Monk throwers is whether they are genuinely good at end-game, or just better than stick builds and significantly better than handwraps builds.

But as many have said, rather than just "S-tier" there would need to be groups:
Levelling vs End-game
Tanking/mob focus
Melee DPS
Ranged DPS
Crowd control
Insta-killing

Maybe even to avoid the fear of nerfs for "S tier" people can just list builds which "work well" in high reaper / raids under the groups above.

For tanking:
I assume you'd have Paladin and Fighter S&B, for Barb can you be heavy DPS or do you need a Con / HP focus? Do they have to have Intim because their DPS is too low to keep the mob anger? Does a Con build miss out on too much Str so without stacking + Hit gear they wont hit the side of a barn in high reaper?

For Insta-kill and Crowd control what is the DC level you really want to hit to be good in high reaper? People talk about 120 DC, but is 110 enough for nearly all content?

Etc.

Anyone is able to place that qualifier when posting a build. "This build is S-Tier at..."

Just remember The Eye of Sauron is ever watching. Warlock was nerfed because it was once S-tier at 1 to 20 and very good from 21 to 30 but it was never the best in anything.

Very good, one of the top DPS builds (but handwarps are much much better than stick. Handwraps and thrower are both top-tier at what they do (melee DPS with very good CC and utility, and sustained ranged DPS, respectively).)

Tanking at the highest level (high skull raids) is fighter/barb/pally for raw stats, with fighter the best of those three by a fair bit, and pally and barb bringing different niche options to the table (barb has great hamp, temp HP, and depending on the patch sometimes has the most raw effective HP, pally brings good healing for other party members, very good resting stats, and disease immunity, but worse interactions with other player's buffs and fewer oh **** clickies). Those builds tend to have no DPS, no to-hit, etc. For just r10 questing and r1 raiding, lots of things can work, including more off-DPS versions of the above, bear, arti, wizard, sorc, sac fist, monk, warlock, etc. For r10 quests, 5-6k hp is enough on a tank. For harder content, you want MOAR, top tier pally is around 9k, fighter around 10k, barb almost 11k (PRR is ~700 on pally, ~650 on fighter, and quite a bit lower on barb, but barb gets barb DR).

For instant-kills, 130 is a decent DC target. That's no no fail, but it's also more than enough to work with. 120 is workable if you target low saves. Much below that and there will be some mobs that you will struggle to deal with consistently.

It seems people dont know how to answer your question. I seen people give their opinions of saying what you feel you like, or what you like to play , but that is not what you asked for, and I am not going to echo chamber the same stuff they are.

Your looking for S tier, certain builds that stand out above other builds, that are tweaked, and capable of doing above average stuff. You dont care if they are builds you like or not, you only care if they are powerful builds.

Now I did see some people say your not going to see those people posting the S tier builds , because of the nerf bat that might come to them. I dont know if its active any more but the DDO vault was a place where people talk about that kind of stuff, or they used to, but even then , you still have to hang around a while and get to know people, and talk to them in PM.

Another place where you might see someone doing some crazy DPS build will be over on Lammania. Where people test certain builds and dps on the dummies. You could hang out there and see who is doing the most damage or showing off, and examine their class split and send them a tell asking what the build is.

As for what I find as an S build right now I think a Dragon Lord is up there. Pure Fighter.

Those are all nice ones to play and have in parties. But might as well hate oneself (with any thrower) if the OP's "most effective" is in reference to getting past lives or leveling. I'd love to know what OP actually wants out of gameplay.
OH for sure I usually Ottos or boxed my every thrower Life :D

The misrepresentation here, as per usual, is coming from you. At no point have I had any issue with the fact that "the most effective build" depends on the goal of the build. That is completely trivial. It is obvious that the best tank build is not the best DPS build. The posts and notion I called out is very different, that notion said that your build does not really matter and the most effective build is the one you enjoy most. The sleight of hand was to refer to "effective at having fun" instead of effectiveness of the character vs content which is what you are refering to now.

That this was said after a 20+ pages thread where the same poster focused on how build is very important to downplay the relevance of past lives made it worth calling out.

I linked 3 builds too. But without knowing the OP's desires, my original post and view stand; one should just have fun and tweak difficulty to make whatever one wants shine. It's silly to me to talk about "most efficient" builds without context of how one wants to use them; top tier in situation A can easily be bottom tier in situation B. Most people are better off just playing the game and figuring out what they want out of it rather than looking at a list of "S-tier" builds that may have zero relationship to the way they play the game. But since you keep bring it up, please post some of your builds. It's very tiresome with you constantly taking my comment like it's the end the of universe or some means of twisting things; having fun is my view on the foundation of gameplay and I regularly share my builds that are both strong and fun (to me). Surely you can too can post 3 or more full builds that hold up in high end content complete with gear sets like I did; and if we're lucky maybe they'll even be builds that people find fun too.
