Melee build variant example. Crossbows are really strong in heroics at cleaning up that last mob that has a sliver of health left.

For example, Artificer 4 / Ranger 15 / Barb 1 Inquisitive.
Levels as Artificer 2 > Ranger 12.
Max int harper build. Doesn't need much dex, only around 13. Ranger gets the feats for free.
Use repeaters until 12. First 12 AP into Harper. Sniper Shot asap at 8. Respec to inquisitive at 12.
Artificers and Rangers get tons of free feats; plan accordingly. Insightful Reflexes. Can get Shot on the Run. Possibly Maximize/Quicken for some backup heals.
Ranger 15 is to get both CSW and FoM spells. Can stop earlier if you don't value those.
Barb is for run speed.
Eventually AP 41 Inquis, 20+ DWS, 12 Harper.

At any point after Artificer 2 / Ranger 6. Sniper Shot in DWS 3rd core is worth beelining to.
Ranger 9 is Evasion. Ranger 11 is IPS and few extra HP.
In the few lives when I ran this split, I took it after Artificer 2 / Ranger 11.
