Lost Name - appeals process

Per Tolero's and Cordovan's instructions I have submitted a request via help.standingstonegames.com.

What I would like to know what is the criteria that the support team will be using to determine whether or not my character name was properly used by another player.
As a founder, game long VIP whose characters were created in 2006 and 2007 be enough? Or is the wild west first come first serve and tough tiddle winks to me.

I can do things others can't...
Unfortunately, I doubt such decision process' will be provided. Since it will only cause griefers and trollers to use the same reasons in an attempt to cause chaos.

The other thing to remember is that CS is probably going to be slammed for a time dealing with a lot of broken stuff thanks to the transfers, so it could be a while before they get to any individual ticket. So whatever the process ends up being, the best thing you can do is be patient as possible as things get sorted.

Another player grabbed it before you logged in and I agree with you it's messed up. I also lost one of the names I had since Feb. 2006 but as Forrest Gump says, "Stuff Happens". I renamed my ALT and moved on.

The issue is often about whether or not you had your name on all 32 bit servers. If not it could just as easily be someone else who had it legitimately.
I think they indicated looking into whether the character was freshly made, as in an obvious snipe, but even then it could be that first scenario, but they made a placeholder character to give time to transfer the legitimately named character.

They could have had transfers first before enabling account creation but they didn’t. With the last server merges, name conflicts were resolved by creation date but that didn’t happen. It was first come, first served. Unless your name was unique to the point that it appears someone was targeting you, don’t expect any changes just because you’ve been around a long time. If that starts to happen, I have lots of tickets I can put in for my 2006 character names. I got some of mine and lost some. That’s how it was set up.

I got all of my names on 6 of 7 characters that I had on Khyber. I transferred to Shadowdale and lost my name Harper on one of my ALTs. I'm not complaining because I was able to rename him to Danilo which is a name I preferred anyway.

What if they lost the name in one of the previous server merges and wanted it back?

Also, people are having to think up new names for characters as we run into someone else that picked the same name. Example, I had Glory Littlepony, someone else got Glory before me. So I swapped to Confetti. (I like My Little Ponies, okay?) So whoever had Confetti on other servers before me just lost their name. It wasn't malice on my part. I have to name my toon something.

It really doesn't matter how long ago you made your name or how 'well known' you think you are, some names will be duped just because stuff happens.

I had a name on Firefoot, one of LotRO's servers and when they did the first server merge and I went Landy someone else already had that name. I thought it was pretty unique, but obliviously not.

Phoes' thoughts on names and name sniping:

If your name is based on a book, comic, movie, TV, poem, edda, epic, or any other public source, I feel for you, but you shouldn't be surprised others may also desire those names (and variations)

If you are a public figure (content creator, popular guild leader, infamous guild leader) you should not be surprised some troll/griefer would want to cause you heartburn.

In the first case, while I feel for you and understand the desire for a famous name, I hold little hope out that you might get 'your' name back since it is, after all, in the public domain.

In the second case, I still feel for you but would hope SSG would evaluate your case and decide fairly if it's determined the name sniping was malicious.

Just my thoughts, apropos of nothing really.

As for the trolls/griefers, I'd tell you to grow the heck up and get over yourselves, but that patently isn't going to happen.

I'll hold out hope for names to be granted to those who feel they lost them unfairly, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Yeah. I thought I was the only turtle weirdo, but I found on Hardcore there is another one and we plalyfully raced every season to get Turtle. LOL I was curious and googled Firefoot, and apparently it's a horse in the books, so not that suprising that book lovers of LoTR might use it in Lotro.

Phoenicis hit's it right on the head "If your name is based on a book, comic, movie, TV, poem, edda, epic, or any other public source ....." Name generators, historical names etc... etc..... If it's on the internet everyone has access to it.

Firefoot was the server name in that anecdote, Landy was the character name.

You would hope SSG use common sense when reviewing name complaints.
1st level toons where the account has never had that name on any other server vs someone who had it for years on a different server.

Only the 1st is an issue.

Also if you want it for you 63rd alt and someone else has it for their 140 life toon... again I dont see an issue.

This is why LOTROs 3 name reservation was far bettee than the zero thought out, zero care crud show we got with DDO. 3 names to reserve means pick carefully. With DDO we have seen how little SSG care.
