Lost Name Appeals

Unless you have conclusive proof that is was Cordovan who assisted there, I wouldn't go and claim this to be the case however suspicious a timing of it all, because if it's inaccurate, then Cordovan will get hit with many more messages for something they were never part of in the first place.

I never claimed it to be the case. I said I wasn't sure, but the timing was awfully suspicious.

How could the Stratiotis grab not be a straight up grief? I’m surprised you couldn’t get this one back.

OK, so I'm guilty of pinching a few names that I used to have years ago but lost during various forced server merges and transfers and I'm starting to feel a bit bad that I might have stolen someone's main name or something. I did add them to the friends list to see if they came up but there might have been anon ones so I thought I would start this thread so people could respond with "I lost X name and it's how everyone knows me" or whatever because people might be kind enough to free them up in those circumstances.

Names that people are appealing for so far:

I paused my DDO sub because of the lag post server transition. I quit the game forever 3 weeks after when DDO finally responded that they won't restore my names. I had 3 names stolen that date back to the first week of retail release. All I asked was for DDO to check the creation date and award the person who had the names the longest with the right to keep it. Instead it was thrown in my face. So server lag and bad customer service lost a cash cow. I'll never play DDO again. I check back from time to time to see if they fixed the lag but I won't log into bogus names even if it's fixed.

To whomever got my names, if you had them on your server and just got lucky with your transfer timing, good luck. If you're a scumbag who went day-1 to the server and created new toons to subvert the process and lock the names, I wish bad things for you.

"I'll never play DDO again", but here I am, crying about names and complaining on the forums. LMAO

I will not admit to snatching names, but will say that first come-first serve was an obvious policy that was announced (perhaps unofficially) very much prior to the transfer day.

Hardly a subversion of the process when SSG basically told people to do that. This is directly from the transfer guide.
What happens if someone else already has my character name?
The first person to create or transfer a character with that name on a game world will get the name. If a character transfers to a game world where the name already exists, that character will get an automatic addition of -1, -2, etc. to their name. That character can type /changename (NEWNAME) into game chat to change their name for free to an available name. Many players create characters on destination worlds with the name they want, transfer over a character, delete the “placeholder”, then rename their intended character.

I am sorry you lost your character names, and I am certain that some people did snipe names intentionally, but calling people scumbags for doing what SSG told them to do seems a bit childish.

I've playing a PnP character named Brighton since 1980. I was able to get it on Shadowdale two weeks after it went live, so I'm cool with that, but if the player who approached me on Cormyr stills wants it, I'm happy to give it up. just drop me a line

stratioti were greek mercs, quite well known through the med and the balkans, vaguely recall being greek for soldier too (?)
they are also mentioned in the ad&d 2nd edition dms guide

greek/balkans players? d&d players?

edit: during a comeback in 2016 i almost went nuts just trying to create a character because of the unique name thing, stratoiti was a name i tried and was taken (ended up using a french phrase, honestly was typing in so many random things was painful)

I’ve known exactly 1 Stratiotis on 4 servers in 20 years. That’s a cool story tho.

I don't work for SSG- I pay their bills.

Yeah, that one was a shame. I guess if strat wanted to whine enough, CS would perchance do something about it.
