Mechgraber's Endgame Paladin

The biggest downside with rages is no defensive stance, but the 1400 hp with a swap is too hard to give up. If I was aiming for a power life I’d prob still do shifter(wild) over aasimar but it’s pretty close. I’d have to see how each feels in r10 again on a paladin. I’ve only tried razorclaw barb and dl r10s after hitting racial completions but those both felt great.

For dodge I think you aren’t including quick cutter. If you are running LD the 6 points there is also highly useful but it prob doesn’t make as much sense on a paladin.

For filigrees I’d recommend 3 piece city’s beacon over one of the other sets if you are balancing dps with defense and sanctified fervor over prowess since you are not a burst dps build.
Yea particularly for r10, temp hp is very strong, and having minimal cooldown 1400 at your fingertips is very nice indeed. I'll probably do a life as shifter to play around with it, was a bit torn between Eladrin/Aasimar and now that's in the mix, regenning rages would be sweet.

So with quick cutter up would be 6% more, I guess 13%+50%+6%=69%, nice. Not the 91% I had with the SDK DL life but solid. I did try LD and 6% more baseline dodge was nice, but went into normal FOM and was really missing renew. I don't mind leaning on consecrate a bit but ideally

Have you tried city's bacon, and, if so, how much did it proc? 20 PRR/MRR sounds promising.

i wish to suscribe to your news letter.

how do you think this build would do on an alt account?

only one really geared toon - just pulled the fallen age shield on that account

I don't have a newsletter! Happy to answer any questions here though. I think 1st life things would work OK, but in general the more "things" you're trying to do, the more the past lives benefit, particularly defensively. Epic past lives alone give 36 PRR/75 AC/180 HP/15% absorb all of which are quite nice, as well as the stances, then you have the extra ED points which slap more defenses on top of that, racial stats, iconic stances, heroic lives...it all adds up. CC will be pretty comparable as it's from the weapon mostly, and your shield smack DC will still be good. Offensively, I think you'll be closer without any past lives. You're down 15% baseline doublestrike from the lack of stances, but in reaper your 30% boost still takes you over 100%.

I wouldn't expect r8-10 quest and elite raid solos but it should perform in low skull quest solos and mid-skull pugging well. And you're survivable enough to hop into r10s, you still have mass res/spot heals/CC so can contribute even if you aren't tearing it up.

Can we see the character sheet? State, PRR. MRR, etc?
Sure it'll be the Tabaxi version but I should be able to get this up over the next day or two.

It’s pretty up all the time if you are melee’ing. I can retest it but it procs almost immediately and I don’t think it has a cd

or next hc name!
Especially when you get cooked!

Here's a screenshot of things:

Can go to gallery and zoom in if needed. Stats at a glance:

OFFENSE: MP 333 Attack 211 Damage 167 Doublestrike 93% Bypass 108% Imbue Dice 13 Shield Bash 73%

PHYSICAL DEFENCE: AC 287 PRR 384 Dodge 13% fort 287% (I swapped 15% shield bash for 2 tiers of "Bulk up" in Crusader)

MAGICAL DEFENCE: 227 MRR Fire/Acid/Cold/Elec Absorb 52-57%, with fire shield/elec filigree 76-80%

HP/HEALING: Just shy of 5k hp (bit over with bloodrage proc) Amp 296 (281 if running +30 pos spellpower stance), 588 pos spellpower (or 558 if running amp stance...it's kind of a wash. Renewal ticks for 600-800 either way.)

SAVES: basically no-fail except on a 1

Vanguard is interesting in that the shield has a 1 second cooldown. This means a couple of things:

If you have 35% attack speed, it'll give you just over 2 attacks per second (2.05), and thus worse DPS than if you had...30% attack speed (1.96). So any pure vanguards that have 15% haste and 20% from the capstone kinda get screwed over by those mechanics. In fact, if they go from 35% to 25% attack speed, they usually lose almost no DPS. So they should absolutely take patience because even if it didn't give any multiplier it wouldn't really impact damage.

Second, a higher shield bash attempt % has diminishing returns.

0% to 20% gets 1134 DPS
20% to 40% gets 1941 DPS
40% to 60% gets 2551 DPS
60% to 80% gets 3026 DPS
80% to 100% gets 3403 DPS

That's with 20% attack speed (patience and no vanguard capstone). To highlight the first point, if I had 2.05 attacks per second (35% speed) the 100% shield smash rate has...2598 DPS, because it's going to be on cooldown more often.

Also because cleaves and quick cutters and smites don't use the shield at all, prioritizing shield damage or procs often doesn't make sense. On paper the shield is ~25% of my damage, in practice it's probably closer to 15% single target and 5-10% against packs of mobs.

Super write up matey many thanks for this. I'm a melee novice and not great with farming either but it would be nice to give this one a go in the fullness of time and with the info you've presented here, i may have a fighting chance. If nothing else you've provided motivation to give it a try for several of us around here i'm sure.

I will say that had i known what i klnow now about the MD drop mechanics i'd never have tried for any of the MD gear on the list - even the normal items are rough for me - lord knows how you had the patience for that shield! :)

Yea I've actually since switched to armor/helm/cloak MD as well. But I'm not entirely sure that writing up a build like that is really all that practically useful for people to follow.
i may have missed this - what bout vol instead of host?

Looks pretty good. If running r10 or low skull raids it's probably better than unyeilding sov, where it either under or over heals. But if trying to solo r6-8s the big heal is quite nice. Either way, annoying 10 minute cooldown that doesn't reset on quest completions or shrining!

Not sure how to use the quote feature so apologies for that - re gear i think the broad nature of your post is much nicer for those of us inexperienced in the playstyle such as myself to try to follow. Unless avid farmers and / or loaded with astral shards (stikes me this MD loot system acts as an excellent sink for those) i'd say go with whatever gear you have to fit the build to avoid frustration. I will certainly not be trying for that shield, but on the plus side the requirement for FOM gear has encouraged me to join in those raids when public posted & that's been a nice experience so far. I'm a bit of a cc a holic so i won't deny that the guardbreaking and slow/para elements did take my attention :) About the US heal thing, could Olladra achieve the same with a little extra bonus or am i missing something?

I haven't tried it so not sure. Sort of depends on if you value the d6 stats effect or the wiping of all the stat damage and other conditions. I've found that if you're using sov often it's in fairly dire circumstances so being able to wipe all of that away is nice.

Good point that last - more in keeping with an oh **** button :)
Yep exactly. Although I will say that a lot of these religious level 6 options are viable, it's certainly not a requirement, so you can tweak the recipe to taste in that regard.

Update: I've since TRed out of this build to pick up the last 15-20 past lives I'm missing, but before this, I did make some changes. The build still works as written, of course.

First, I went tier 5 sentinel for the full-heal and 10k temp HP button. I was soloing (or trying to solo...) a lot of r10s and it's just too difficult to self-heal through that. Plus having 6k+ hp is nice.

Second, I dropped 31 points in vanguard entirely for 31 points in sacred defender.

With both of these changes, DPS is lower due to lower shield bash strike percentage, slower attack speed, and no law damage on hit, but with high melee power and quick cutter it's still good, and the build can be primary tank for most raids, or off-tank when pushing things. AC is up to low 400s which is a very noticeable difference compared to the ~285 of before, and the PRR/MRR of ~430/~230 helps too.

Plus nearly 400 amp which gets a laugh at parties, and sends the bards and clerics fighting to see who can get the biggest heal off before raids (shoutout to Singalot with the 30k mantle proc!). Have also been playing around with a second account bard and having ~100-250 heal ticks every two seconds...well...makes things a lot easier!

Third, I got the items I needed, and dropped the vecna artifact set for the Heavy Armor of the Crownblade's Reflection armor, Legendary Helm of the Sun's Wrath (Warblade has a borked crown of summer, and the "exceptional" seeker is just...insightful seeker) and Legendary Cloak of the Warblade. Then from the rat quests, Agarta's belt (str, qual str, Ram's might and a moon aug? yes, please) and Storna's Pendant (mostly for the +3 profane stats). Definitely an upgrade.

Lots of routes to go here though. Happy tetrising. Still after either 3x set AC or MRR augs to round things out.

Playstyle isn't really any different. I did make an attuned bone 4x melt bastard sword for boss beating, much better single target damage. Similar filigrees to the ignition but I did slide in a 3x "The City's Beacon" set which procs a lot, enough to keep. I use a fallen tower with it as guardbreaking isn't needed.

So on the continuum between "spanky" and "tanky" it's definitely drifted a bit towards the latter, you can still season the recipe to taste with the choices of Vanguard vs SD, Crusader T5 vs Sentinel T5 and then the more subtle stuff like the filigrees.
