And like a well know streamer who i respect says,
This is just a game and we all play games to have fun.
Then how come most games lock the endgame modes away at a level cap or behind something you need to unlock first?

I think you may have misunderstood what I was trying to say so I will explain.

I understand the need for quest difficulties various unlocks.
It creates the need to use an item from the store or go VIP to circumvent the barrier (past lives exempt)
This in turn brings in money to help maintain the cost of the server and the employees of SSG.

What I am against is the rampant mentality in this game that one customer has the god given right to tell another customer what to do.

TIL basketball isn't a game
I don't understand what you are trying to say but my reply is "Now hockey das a game" :)

No it doesn't. You don't need an item from the store or go VIP. You can just play the quest again after you've learned the mechanics from the first time, XP, enahncement points you earned and possibly an upgrade for your gear to bring with you. The mentality that is disappearing is play the game to progress... DDO is all about repeating quests and playing them multiple times. If you don't want to do this as a beginner player go play something else.

I agree on one glaring point: each quest takes time and for an F2P to run that same quest twice so they can access reaper must be frustrating.

but...either buy VIP or TR twice. so there are options
Agreed. It’s an incentive to sub because it IS annoying, but at some point if you like the game you should sub. Also of note: Epic and Legendary allow ftp to open on first life!

That's like saying a person who just learned how to play basketball should be able to walk onto an NBA team and feel like they're contributing. Difficulties are there for a reason.
My very first character, a rog 2/wiz 18 had a tough time at r1 but did make it in many cases. I need to admit that for the heroic Elite was the desired difficulty. From 2nd life and after I was fine on r1.
My second toon, again a 1st lifer but on another server was a Palie and he played straight on r1 with no problems, even solo.
Not all builds are equal and yes reaper is not for new players.

- Elite/R1 is not for newbies.
This is the the only quibble point for me.

When I was new one of my first posts was about game difficulty. I thought Elite was the perfect difficulty for newbie solo. I went so far as to suggest deleting lower difficulties as being far too easy.

I've changed my mind about that after seeing how many people run family groups with very young children. It's a trip hearing a 6y-old pipe up in Discord with "Mommy mommy, kill it! Kill the spider!"

Then how come most games lock the endgame modes away at a level cap or behind something you need to unlock first?
Locks have a number of uses, but I strongly disagree with all of them. The world is virtual enough without adding invisible fencing.

Too rough for the level? Let 'em find out by getting rofl-stomped by rats.

Locks to prevent story spoilation? It's a reTRead game; 99% have the story already. Want sequencing? Chain 'em instead where exit = entry to next.

IMHO, the devs for most games do it out of tradition; ie. they basically have zero clue why they're doing it, but well, we need locks because. Uh, why? Well, because because. Yeah, thought so.

I won't sit here and say that DDO is perfect, having been here as long as I have, I do love the game despite its many flaws, but I do want to point out a couple of things.

Foremost, for the longest time, elite difficultly was the hardest DDO had to offer outside of epics. Elite by design is meant for party play, the number of people who could solo elite was astoundingly low compared to now. As a new player, it takes time to bridge that gap to be able to do elites, let alone reapers. I feel it's a lot to ask to be able to simply roll into the game as a newbie and expect to be able to run the content as effectively as this who have done them x amount of times. Starting out, you have no gear, no pastlives, no knowledge of the quests, and DDO isn't a game that will hold your hand. Simply, this is one of those games which requires time and patience, and if you don't have it, well...

Second, I want to point out what was said about rolling an effective character. While character creation isn't the best at guiding new players through its process, I feel enough information is there to be able to lead you in the right direction. Rolling a fighter? Great, it gives you advice, telling you STR, CON and DEX are important. Rolling a sorcerer? It tells you to go for CHA... There is enough present to help you create a decent character.

And yes, I'll also say, you WILL make mistakes. This should be expected. You can either learn from the mistakes or not, that's on you.

Finally, combining the two points I made, reincarnation plays a HUGE role in the game. While it is very possible to create a fantastic first life character, in general, people you see running the r1s, r5s, r10s have a lot of pastlives, gear, knowledge and reaper points. They've been playing for years. You will not be on the same level as they are. This isn't me being rude or insulting your abilities as a player, this is me just stating the facts. DDO has been around for 20 long years, and some players have been playing since launch. It would take an immense amount of effort and time to catch up to that. I think this last point is important to understand with ANY older game you play. It'll just be up to you if you feel the game is worth your time and energy. If it is, great! And if not, it's completely understandable.

That's my food for thought. Goodluck out there, whether it be continuing with this game or a different game entirely, I wish you the best.
I think they toned everything done I can make a brand new character and do many elite quests with starter gear and no ship buffs there are even a few I can do R1 on when the character hits the level to do so

I think you misunderstood me. Yes, for me heroic Elite would work out. But I never suggested or implied that other difficulties shouldn't be available. I agree with you, I play with my nephew and heroic normal can be difficult under some conditions for him.

We actually ran a party of four on heroic normal red fens a few days ago. And it was not easy, we even got a few deaths.

And yes I by my self could r1 the same quests with my 1st life toon. But it is a very different story to run them knowing what you do and to not have to babysit 3 noobier players than your self.

Cheers

Please forgive the necro (I play DA, so pun intended) but as I predicted, I have returned. After finally employing the most roundabout method conceivable for buying a Heart of Wood, I made adjustments to my character, and am ready to have another crack at the game.

What is a OSRS? I don't speak that.

I have to laugh at all this. The OP stated that he played for so long and was just stating his OPINION of his experience, he didnt say that he knew everything and that everyone should agree with him Then , of course, everyone starts telling him how wrong he is. The fact is that everyones experience with this game isnt the same and people should respect the opinon of others.

People who dont instantly love everything are just wrong.

For those claiming they are casual, Id love to know their definition. I was chatting to someone playing WOW who said they are casual. 6 to 8 hours a day, 5 or 6 days a week. Sometimes more on weekends. But they didnt raid so they were casual.
