Myth Drannor Drop Rates

I went back to the TR treadmill. I TR'd my 2nd favorite character into a chaosmancer over the weekend to take advantage of the bonus XP. It's now Thursday and I'm only level 19 (parked at 18). My motivation levels have never been lower. I've been logged in for the past hour and half, been sitting on the airship while tabbed out doing other stuff. Myth Drannor drained a lot of my energy with the time I spent trying to get things with zero results; it time sinked me in a way the wasn't good for my enjoyment.
It's like you're spying on me.

I TR'd my main last week before the weekend bonus because I already had zero interest in running any more MD at cap. The shiny wore off much faster than previous expansions.

I wasn't even trying to farm stuff. All the MD stuff I've run has been just to help guildies with extra loot pull chances and to get some RXP on a newbie toon, the latter of which I could do in any of the Legendary content.

I barely hit level 10 over the weekend and spent probably half my online DDO time this week just idling on the airship while doing/reading/watching other things. I finally hit 19 yesterday evening. I was looking at what to run for those last 4-5 ranks and thought, "Ugh, I'm just going to log out and worry about it tomorrow."

This saddens me. Running down that cloak ruined this pack for me. I have little motivation to log in.

Completed my first MD saga - Legendary R1 Solo all quests including many but not all optional chests plus about 7 rares in the wilderness. Total named item haul was a Lunar Gem of Intelligence and a Small Shield of the Fallen Age. That's it. Many quests are long slogs of high HP mobs. I will not be running MD again unless something changes. Which is a shame because the quests, wilderness area, general look, etc. are all very good. Just not worth the time investment.

For a while now I've been trying to divine the logic behind the new drop rates. I believe the team at SSG to be rational, observant, and like the rest of us humans slightly imperfect.

The latest news from SSG is about the trial of the 64 bit servers to hopefully reduce lag, which is clearly a new expense for the business.

Bear with me for a second, what if this new loot model appears more profitable and is providing the prospects desired to be able to spend dollars on new hardware. That would seem to indicate that we'd be trading more grind for less lag...it's an interesting proposition.

Personally, I'm burnt out on the new expansion, most folks seem to be farming specific quests, so it's excessively repetitive for me. I prefer to do the saga, but this new loot mechanism seems to push farming specific quests beyond my personal farming threshold. Also, I've grown accustomed to the current level of lag, so it rarely bothers me. If the trade mentioned above is their proposal, I think it's an easy point for me to break with SSG...a long smooth grind is not preferable...although, I suspect many may take that trade.

Thoughts?

From my understanding of Severlin's comments on the livestream: a trial that will be in the form of an event and the only people able to create characters on the server will be VIPs. I hope I'm wrong with this but I think it's likely the event in the yearly roadmap is the trial server event meaning you won't even be able to take part in the event they've been semi-hyping if you don't sign up for VIP.

I like the idea of investing in new hardware to improve service for everyone. That is consumer friendly.

Creating a new server only for VIPs to be able to play with less lag and force them unto new characters to have them buy all those shards, tomes and otto's boxes again is just as predatory as the rare drop rates. That is just the same end-stage whale farming that hurts the game and community.

Still too far off though, we'll get angry, ranty and think decidedly un-positive about it when we get there.

I mentioned it in the other thread but I'll repeat it here: the unspoken impression was that they can't swap the 32-bit server files for 64-bit. So upgrading the hardware would be awesome but that requires upgrading the server files to take true advantage of which requires they either engineer a fully working character transfer or everyone makes new characters.

Didn't they roll out 64 bit servers on LOTRO side, first? Why don't some off you who play over there as well go an check out the LOTRO forums and see what's going on for them? I'm sure whatever they have been through will be what we go through as well.

a new server only for VIPs
This is such a bad idea that I can't imagine they're considering it. However, I could see a VIP-only event to both stress test a new server and entice more subscriptions -- that would make a lot of sense.

The reason vip-only would fail is that we all group with non-vip. A new server that leaves behind both friends and established characters is a non-starter. It's like trying to start a whale-server. There's no point in whaling without people to play with.

If they want to make something like this palatable, astral shards, mounts, pets, MM, and even (potentially) shared bank need to become account-wide or at least transferable to the target server. Basically, they need to support making the target server after a transfer look identical to the original. Right now, too much is locked to each server and left behind on the original.

I could put together a few whales that would be happy to host a few (hundred) of our closest friends…given a buttery-smooth, lag-free performance.

If the 64-bit server tests are successful at reducing lag, I suspect the next issue for them will be keeping players from redistributing to one "mega" server. Many (myself included) who would have never considered moving servers before like would for a lag-free experience.

A 32 bit data file is data. Extracting the data into a representation and then recording the representation into a 64 bit file is a solved issue. FFS.

I have 1 or 2 MD quests yet to do for the Legendary Saga on my first run through. I have re-rolled end chests maybe 6 or 7 times with AS I purchased using points earned while questing.

So far, I have gotten the following Legendary items.
Pendant of Silence (Moon)
Quarterstaff of the Fallen Age
Cloak of Forest's Blade (Sun)
Periapt of Wisdom (Sun)
Periapt of Strength (Sun)
Periapt of Charisma (Sun)
Heavy Armor of Sunset (Sun)

and the following Legendary Augments
Solar gem of Constitution
Solar gem of Spell Power
Solar gem of Spell Critical Damage

Not farming or trying to put together a gear set for a specific character. Just playing the content for its own sake with extremely LOW levels of interest, energy, time and enthusiasm.

Congrats, you have looted exactly ZERO rare items! Thank you for further proving the point.
