Nerf please?

I dont agree with the arguement that melee SHOULD be on par with ranged damage because you are closer to the target. In my opinion melees should be the tanks in an MMO but thats just me.

If you choose to be melee dps (which i also have) then it comes with those added risks. Just build / play better on your melee DPS. Or just enjoy it as it is. Dont group with Inquisitives. I can solo 95% of the content and for the other 5% (ie raids) I am more than happy to get a faster / cleaner completions.

PS i am pretty sure there are still some stellar melee DPS that outdo Inquisitives but those builds are a better kept secret

At the moment Inquisitives seem all the rave and i am just starting to enjoy it even after the first recent nerf.

The thing with melee is that their DPS is deserved/earned because they have to actually run into melee range with those mobs/raid boss and get possibly two-shotted.

With inquisitive (and to a much lesser extent now post nerf with casters) you have this . . .

I see ranged die as often as melee in groups. While melee more often go toe to toe for obvious reasons - ranged have fewer hp etc so when a mob does sneak up or fires that deadly spell ranged do die. Also, in some quests there is not really room to stay far enough away.

So, for quests I dont buy that melee die more often - not with decent builds. When undergeared it is true - but thats not something to design for.

Agreed ... on my casters and ranged i have to either stand still and take the hits also

OR kite / tumble / improved doge/ etc etc ie actively do something to not get hit

As a melee you can generally rely on better AC/ HP etc

If inquisitives are doing more damage than other builds- balance changes are a reasonable discussion point.

When we talk about them ruining peoples fun and making people quit - I think it starts to get a bit ridiculous. The highest burst dps builds I've seen are melees, but not entirely sure if it's all working as intended. I am just happy to see those builds in raids where there is a giant bag of hp.

It's easier to play ranged in den of vipers because you are just mostly running around killing things and when you can minimize the running around part by being ranged it's just more fun.

So Inq was fine when it suited you but now that it doesn't they should nerf it... got it. Playing toons like Inq and meta builds will always be around for those who choose to play them. Cookie cutter builds (even those super secret, don't discuss on forums bcuz devs! builds) are boring to some. Play the build you enjoy and if you are in group with build you do not wish to run with leave and start another group. I wish it had been around when i was running those horrible racials like dwarf, horc, helf, tfling and most iconics, but had to settle for either arti or sorc. Inq cant out kill a good sorc leveling with wings in r1. I just wonder how you reload 2 xbows while holding 2 xbows... seems sus.

In groups I often see strong melee builds (of many kinds) doing about on par with Inqs.
It often depends on the zone layout and mob density who performs better.
These days in almost never see any (non-healer) casters though.

Overall, I dont see Inqs as the sole problem - but martial dps being too strong, making healers, tanks and casters less desired.
A good start would be to give martial dps the same reaper penalties that magic damage got a good while back.
Lol, so half the player base is playing inquisitives and your solution is to nerf melees? So smart!

It looks like the complaint is from NHB while dual shooting.
How about a 25% DS penalty (25% of your total DS not just a flat 25%) when dual shooting while NHB is active?
That way the penalty is less for lower levels.
Then adjust the penalty until the burst damage falls in line.
That way it does not change other crossbow styles.

The problem with MD gear was it was actually good. We should be getting perspectives on INQ from folks that actually have decent gear.

Since we don’t have DPS calcs (ONCE AGAIN, THIS GAME ABOVE ALL OTHER MMOS NEEDS A DPS PARSER)…

The most objective way (and frankly the most game effecting way in perspective for a Dev) is to see how many of the more seasoned/power players are going inquisitive.

It’s a metric ton. It’s just better. You do way more sustained damage than any Melee and you get to do it from a single vantage point or the safety of some cheese “bookcase/geometry”. You’re holding down fire on multiple spots simultaneously with your double ak47 x-bows while as a melee you have to waddle over to cover a spot or engage an enemy.

It’s annoyingly screwed up.

Even more so than any caster. (Casters at least had a relative weak spot in raids). Inquisitives are just good.. at everything… all at once.

A chunking exploit build is using bugs to outperform. I know these builds and as powerful as they are, they are clearly not working as intended. Inquisitive is working entirely as intended.
I really don't care about my kill count as that isn't even a measure of dps anyway. Most of people I play with have quit and they are citing the main reasons for quitting are that MD sucks and that inquisitives are no fun to group with and are too powerful. I agree on both fronts and I'd like for them to return when Lamordia eventually comes out, but they won't as long as inquisitives are the easy button they continue to be.
I get that the terrible players all love them. You're terrible for a reason. There are better ways at boosting up terrible players. Ravenloft had it down pat. They gave everyone excellent base gear in the quests that were easy to pair up with bonuses and then put the best stuff in the raids to farm for that last 10%(ish).

If you are going to call me out as a terrible player, it really doesn't mean much when you do it anonymously.

I find the claim people are quitting because of inquisitives to be somewhere between exaggerated and ridiculous. There have always been strong builds and if people were going to leave for that reason they would have done so long ago. I've not heard of a single person leaving the game for this reason.

People don't leave the game because of balance issues, the game has never had good balance. But players claim people leave for all sorts of reasons to try and persuade SSG to make changes, as if that is going to make a difference.

Glad you know exactly why my friends left without knowing who they are at all. Can you also tell me tonight's winning lottery numbers? You seem to have this all figured out.

I don't know a single person that left or even talked about leaving for this reason. What builds are strongest is discussed all the time, but inquisitive is not any different than other flavors of the game which have always existed.

That is why the claim doesn't make any sense to me.

Blocking you for the personal attack though. One thing I am sure is that you haven't run with me enough to make claims about me being terrible at the game.

Best of luck to you.

Yeah, but the difference here is that DPS casters actually were nerfed and have been struggling since then. On the other hand, DC casters are on a whole nother level of nerf. When the DPS caster changes were compounded for them by SLA max-caster level caps. (Last time a checked, DC spells don't work on raid bosses) Basicly, leaving them on life support for most content above R7-8. Sure, it's possible to do R10's as I've done it, but it's lost a lot steam and people's motivation to do so is gone.
