You can do much to fix that problem right now. If you have 100 levels of guild rank from old members, KICK THEM OUT OF THE GUILD. Right now. If they have been inactive for 6 months or more, then you won't lose any levels.
The problem is there is no way to recapture the lost Guild Renown if Guild Renown is transferred with the character.
A character that earned 8,000,000 guild renown and stopped playing more than 6 months ago, the guild currently loses nothing when I kick them, but that 8,000,000 doesn't transfer when we move the guild to the new server as the renown is tied to a former member's character.
This change punishes the small guilds that have been in existence a long time, in my case since launch.

I would wait until we get a more detailed response on the process, we have a few weeks.

This is a totally [redacted] solution to the problem. My guild that has been around since launch is going to lose 100 levels. SSG needs to do better. What about our Guild Ship, the amenities, and the rest of the issues that SSG is causing? Not going to be able to place items we paid for with Astral Shards.
You do NOT lose all the renown gained by members. If they leave "hostile" you lose 30%, if they leave "On good terms" it is 10%, in the Fridays at Four with Severlin it was stated ~ they are looking into possibly reducing the guild renown penalty during this transfer time.

Your answer has nothing to do with the transfer process. As Cordovan stated 'It is true that guilds will lose renown from members who are no longer active and who never transfer over.' See the above quote.

EDIT
Our guild stands to lose 95,000,000 in Guild Renown if Guild Renown is attached to players who are no longer active in the guild.
For big guilds (see my friends in Death Smile on Hardcore and Cormyr) that is a few weeks at most to recoup, for small guilds you are talking a year, two years.
What about our Guild Ship, we purchased a ship with Platinum, not astral shards, can we place that guild ship as it requires guild level 150. Are we out the cost of that ship?
What about the 13 amenities that will require a higher guild level, are we out that 3,850,000 plat and 1,160 Astral Shards?

Dear Cordovan,

I have a few questions. I never did a character transfer in the past so maybe some are covered there. My apologies if I didn't found the relevant info.

Q1) You are not mentioning anything about Quest Progress, Favor Progress, Saga Unclaimed Rewards etc.
I'm currently in the process of prepping saga completions and I wanna use my Guild renown potion for them. Will the Saga rewards be still available after the transfer? Or should I claim my rewards before transfer?
Q2) I recently come back to the game, most of my items and characters are from another era :p Before Update 50. Will legacy stuff transfer fine and over time fix on the new servers? Will legacy augment removers be available? (Probably I can check on Cormyr that)
Q3) Old pre50 items still in TR cache will be okay?
Q4) I have some legacy rewards pending on some NPCs for druid becoming f2p etc... Should these be resolved before the transfer?
Q5) When I merge two servers to one, and the items are more than what a shared bank can handle, what happens? (Anyhow, I am trying to travel light with empty shared banks but I was wondering)

I will stop because probably I can continue asking stuff forever :-D

Thank you in advance, and thank you and the team for keeping the game alive!
1. My understanding is that these things currently transfer fine and will continue to transfer fine under the new system, since it is using the transfer wizard currently in place.
2-3. Things that remain in game data should transfer over fine. Since we celebrated our 19th anniversary not that long ago it's hard to give a definitive statement for every legacy item that has ever managed to show up in someone's inventory or whatever, but in general if it still exists it should.
4. It's never a good idea to let NPC grants sit for years and years, so I'd do it, but however this stuff currently transfers is how it will likely transfer under the new system.
5. When things go into storage above your account's current limit that form of storage goes into an overflow state, where further things cannot be added until the limit is again reached. It isn't entirely clear yet how this will display and operate with the Unpack function, but the details of the Pack and Unpack function have not yet been announced. We're also keenly aware of the feedback about storage in general and anticipate having more to say on the subject as we get closer to the transfer date.

My best guess is that even SSG does not know for certain what will happen :)

I suggest/request that guild renown penalties for folks leaving guilds be suspended for the duration of the transfer period. 👍

I will leave our guild, and over the years have earned about half of our guild renown total. I really don't want them to be impacted by my leaving, driven as it is purely by the fact our timezones make it impractical for me to stay on the same server as them after the changes to server locations become manifest.

I'd really appreciate SSG confirming what they intend to do about such issues and any mitigation they can apply. 👍

Am I understanding this correctly? Rather than how GR is calculated now, where if it was earned it was earned, new GR will be starting basically at zero and rebuilding up from there with each member that transfers, such that if all active members transfer you could end up with less than you have because long-inactive members did not transfer? That is bananas.

No announcements have been made about how Guild Renown will operate as part of the Pack and Unpack function, as that remains under some level of testing and is not yet ready to announce. We will have additional information on the process, including things like answers to this and other questions along with a detailed step-by-step process (which should be quite easy) prior to July 9th.

not just inactive... the players that have left the guild also didn't take all their reknown and wouldn't be able to transfer and give it back on the new server even if they are still active. I really hope it isn't a rebuild and you actually get the guild reknown tied with the guild.

Over the last couple years I have been removing my toons from the guild on good terms and re inviting them back. With the guild renown reduction from doing this I earned more renown and currently the guild is almost 100% free from potential reduction during the transfer.

Is this statement no longer accurate because this is exactly what he was commenting on?

Per what has been announced* so far I believe you are in a very deep hole, Guild Renown wise.

It mostly comes down to whether there is such thing as guild renown that is completely untethered to any character. If booting a character leaves some of the renown, and that renown is not bound to any character, but to the guild itself, then maybe that renown will transfer without a problem (or maybe it will vanish forever if only character bound renown is going to count).

I attempted to speculate based on a question presented to me about how I personally expected it might work. A formal announcement including full process steps and the answers to all of your questions will be published prior to the transfer process launch.

We understand that one of your key questions about Guild Renown is what happens to historically-earned Guild Renown for characters that never transfer with the guild and thus are no longer part of the guild membership on your destination world. We are also investigating options as applies more widely related to guild renown.

Ah, for at least 2 years. However, the better option is to pack, transfer, unpack each character. Every time you transfer a character and you are over the limit you will be given a choice of which character to enable and which to leave disabled, on the final transfer you select you final roster.
Do you enjoy answering unasked questions so much ?
It is clear that for 2 years, while the ghost servers exist, we will be able to do this ! The question is, will there still be an opportunity to unpack the character after these 2 years !

and I answered there is no reason to wait, pack, transfer, unpack. Why would you wait years before unpacking?
