To clairfy I'm looking to:

1. Resign leadership.

2. Transfer to new server.

3. Leave old guild

4. Join new guild.

I can do 3. and 4. independently of whatever the replacement leader of the old guild does after I've done 2. Right?

I mean I don't have to wait until the old guild is re-established anywhere, once I'm on my new server. Does that work OK?

1. Designate successor.
2. Resign leadership.
3. Transfer to new server.
4. Join a Moonsea guild.

In your case, you should be able to do what you want in the order you want to do it. In your case, it sounds like you want to remain a member of the guild until after your guild is established on its destination world. If that is true, then once the guild leader unpacks and the guild is re-established you can then leave the guild. If you leave the guild before the guild is established, then the guild information associated with your character upon packing will be lost once you hit the "Create" button to create the new guild.

It is important that both guild leaders and guild members not press the "Create" button on their guild panel unless they want to overwrite and thus remove the old packed or unpacked guild information from their now-former guild. So, don't press the "Create" button until you have unpacked, unless you actually don't care whether that info comes over because you are starting fresh or whatever.

Does this mean if someone makes a mistakes they can simply click the create button and overwrite guild info? If so this sounds like something that should be reconsidered.

Only the guild leader should be able to create the guild.

Just like today in-game, if you create a new guild, you are no longer in your old guild. To the extent you have the ability to hit the "Create" button but don't want to, because you have not yet unpacked, you should avoid doing so. Doing so will in fact create a new guild, which will mean you are now in a new guild rather then your old guild.

To clairfy further, I'm not looking to create a new guild. I'm looking to join a different one I've been invited to join on the new server I move to.

I don't necessarily want to have to wait until my old guild is packed and unpacked to do that, as they may wish to take their time moving. I don't want to remain in my old guild once I've moved. Is that ok without hurting their renown?

You should wait until the guild leader unpacks and you unpack your guild member character prior to leaving the guild and creating a new one or joining a different one. In theory I think it would be fine anyway, but it's better advice to just wrap up your current guild transfer before joining a different guild.

With all the guild transfer posts, one topic I'm not seeing is ... guild toon limits.

How many individual toons can a single guild accept on the new servers?

According to reports from Cormyr, the limit was lowered from 1000 to 700. Our guild on Cormyr isn't big enough to verify.

If a person joins another guild on 7/9 because they want buffs and their guild doesn't arrive until 8/1, does that result in a loss of renown for the original guild? Or do we not know that yet.

Unfortunately a very realistic scenario is some members will want to move on 7/9 to reserve their names while their guild leaders take a wait and see approach to make sure everything is smooth before they move. And of course people want guild buffs during the waiting period.

For the first two:

1. All items in your shared bank get packed when you use the /pack command, or whatever mechanism it ends up being. When you unpack on your destination server, the items will be placed in your new shared bank on that server. If there were pre-existent items in the shared bank they will remain and the two groups of items will merge together.

2. If there are too many items for the new shared bank when you unpack, they go into overflow, much like Inventory overflow where, when an item is removed, overflowing items will appear until enough spaces are made to accommodate them all.

I'm not certain the others have been answered fully, but the new servers will be a lot more robust than the present ones. And yes, I think some renown loss from long-inactive players is inevitable given the process described.
Will we be able to see each overflow item? That could help with the management, what to keep and what to toss. Or the items will go to some kind of pull-only, reincarnation-like cache?

You should not join another guild if you wish to preserve your status with the prior guild. DDO doesn't have the concept of "temporary" guild membership, so whatever you are now is what you are, even if you were with some other guild prior. You can live a day or two without buffs, or don't, but the system isn't designed around a guild waiting around to unpack while its members join a different guild.

You don't need to join a guild to get buffs; just ask anyone to let you take them from their ship. I imagine these kinds of requests will be frequent at first.

You've posted a page explaining how to transfer characters to the new 64-bit servers, but it's missing too much important information.
As a result, players have had to dig through a 50-page forum thread full of questions and developer replies just to figure things out.

Please update the official transfer page to include all the missing details that have only been explained in the forum so far.

Thanks, yeah I wasn't sure if it mattered or not - seems like it does. I thought if renown came with the guild leader rather than the player, it wouldn't matter - but it seems like renown builds up from the players if it matters what individual members do.

It seems much cleaner if renown just came from the leader and guilds don't have to worry about what individuals do such as going to a different server.

  1. The pack process needs to be done for each character individually.
  2. The transfer process also needs to be done per character.
  3. The pack data includes shared bank information.
I'm currently on the Thelanis server and have 100 items in my shared bank.
If I transfer my characters to three different new servers, what will happen to the contents of my shared bank?
Will all three new servers receive the same 100 items in their shared banks?

They have already stated there will be a detailed guide before the 9th.
