I am sure that being wrong will not be a novel experience for you.Overhead is irrelevant, I GUARANTEE you all that the lag won't be 'better'. The poor coding is to blame for that - not the lack of overhead. Mark my words, said here, and now - you all will owe me a profound apology for drinking the SSG kool-aid.. the lag will be the same - or worse.
Like I said; 64 bit servers are going to do nothing to fix the lag.
My comment is based directly how things play out on the 32-bit worlds vs Cormyr; there's an observable difference for some stuff for me. Pop onto Cormyr and try things for yourself, maybe it'll do nothing for you or maybe you'll notice it's better (just better, it's an old game, don't expect perfection, just attempts to make things better bit by bit).Overhead is irrelevant, I GUARANTEE you all that the lag won't be 'better'. This is my fear... Lately I'm having a lot of anxiety and indecision about where to choose where to go, on one hand I want to play in a server where I feel good and I'm not treated like a garbage bag, on the other hand I would like to play in a server where I don't have to stay up late at night until 8 in the morning to be able to play and find efficient groups for the content I have to do... Monsea and Cormyr 1-2 days ago after this "big announcement" seem to be the 2 servers that many will move to... I could be wrong but many are thinking of going to Cormyr (which I initially thought of doing too) but I have no idea if it's worth the risk... the reality is that in 10 years that I've been playing this game I've never been in a fixed guild... I've gone here and there to different guilds and I've always played alone with my forces and joined pug groups (like a beggar who begs) to be able to try to level up as quickly as possible, lately I've done one I'm wrong to invest in DDO again but like LOTRO, DDO has a space in my heart and it's a game that I love very much and I never want to forget it... that's why before making this transfer I want to understand what is best for me to do... whether to go to Cormyr or Monsea... I want to make the right choice... because losing 10 years of progress is not something I want to happen. It's splitting Orien up and that sucks.
The community will be split between US and EU.
I don't want to play on a pure EU server.
The people suck. I'm speaking from experience 28 years of MMORPG experience.
US people are more collegial and also US servers are more international.
Of course that rule doesn't fit all, but EU servers are usually closed, walled off gardens and you're not part of the gang, ever.
US people are more talkative and social, EU you could die, no one would give a ****.
BUT, US servers are too far away from Europe, which means bad latency, 200+ms is not a fun game experience.
So now I have to decide, and what if I don't want to, all my chars and the guild and amenities get deleted?
No ******* way. Prepare for multiple lawsuits if that's the case.
There has to be a fallback option.
What about people who didn't play this game in a longer while and will return in a year or three?
Same happened with Rift, they simply closed the server without notifying anyone.
All the money spent, all the time and effort spent over the years, gone.
Do you believe anyone who had their stuff deleted will ever spend a single cent or even a nanosecond with any of this company's services?
@OP lag will be better, because it's better hardware which can handle more resources used.
Cormyr has shown that.
I think I'll move to Cormyr, simply because population already exists and I have chars there already and if I wasn't kicked from Death Smile for inactivity also a guild.
This do or die ******** needs to go, the worst possible choice to do things.
Exactly how do you know this is the case?...
Will the 64 bit servers fix the giant lag monster that has been plaguing this game for nearly two decades? NO.
...
It's been there the whole time. You can log onto it if you want to see how your ping will be.As an aside, is the Cormyr server already located in Las Vegas, or will it be moved there along with Eric and Thrane when the switch happens?
Well put, friendo. Well put.new 64 bit server is the best thing for DDO and players for many obvious reasons when you stop being toxic for everything devs are saying or doing
You are the kind of person that gets free tickets to a game and complains that the seats aren't great.Let me preface this by saying that i'm very much in favor of SSG dusting off this 20 year old game and trying to somewhat modernize it - BUT, I think making a 64 bit server and forcing players to migrate to them is a strange and unwanted move.
Why you might ask?
Well let's come at this from a technical aspect.
Will the 64 bit servers improve graphics? No.
Will the 64 bit servers fix the giant lag monster that has been plaguing this game for nearly two decades? NO.
Will the 64 bit servers address the plethora of bugs that have gone ignored for many many years (i.e. the ladder bug). Most definitely NO!.
and now comes time to point out the ONE upgrade that the company refuses to do that would actually improve gameplay, member retention, and attract new players:
UPGRADE THE UI!
Here, almost 20 years later, players are forced to use lower resolutions to be able to SEE icons on their hotbars. Every try running this game @ 4k? You'd need a magnifying glass to read the text or see the icons. The game actually looks decent for a 20 year old game if you run it at 4k, just is not functional.
maybe time/money/resources could've been better spent on fixing the game's UI instead of making a 64 bit version that people won't even notice because most people are running the client at 1920 or 1280 resolution!
/end rant
You are the kind of person that gets free tickets to a game and complains that the seats aren't great.
low ping to prevent latency or maybe even the payment process as there are issues with the store and such over seas ( I haven't experience them because I'm not over seas.)Then why have servers in Europe? I mean that MUST be expensive to have servers in two different continents much less countries.
I'm going to see what they do with the next xpac (Lamordia) before I make any judgements about the game dying or not. If Lamordia is a bunch of rehashed art assets (basically Barovia with a little "cup swapping/where's the ball?" kinda gimmick) then yeah, maybe they're running out of funds. Note the last TRUE expansion with unique assets, environments, and races was IoD.
You're not part of the gang probably coz you're on here talking **** about them like you know them all xDIt's splitting Orien up and that sucks.

This is a good point. I wonder if there will be any store purchase issues if the server is in Amsterdam. Or store purchase improvements for those who haven't been able to use it.the payment process as there are issues with the store and such over seas
Additionally, we intend to offer a limited period of time where characters on a 64-bit game world can transfer for free to a different 64-bit game world. This will allow players who accidentally find themselves on the “wrong world” the ability to correct their mistake. We are not yet ready to announce when these transfers will become available. These transfers will also allow players to transfer from Cormyr to Moonsea for a limited period of time.
Sadly, I doubt it will fix your MM. :(I'm looking forward to the possibility of the low ping enabling the majority of adrenaline and boulder combos to actually work for a change!![]()
