New player experiences not so good

I think the Devs should check out this video to see how new people are finding ddo play as first timers. It is hilarious but brings up a great point about low level content not being that exciting and having to rerun those quests to get enough xp if they are not VIP and have not bought any packs. Because lets be honest if you don't even know if you are going to like the game why would you spend any money? I think they should hand out coupons more regularly to gain new players. There is a thread going on right now that discusses a new player having issues at level 5 and very little content for them to play. I would also rethink the "player creep" that I keep seeing in dev posts and the whole DA alert in favor of newer players. The game is incredibly difficult to understand, navigate and play as a 1st time player. I think perhaps you should just go higher level of reaper and make the monsters there higher level instead and much harder to take down. Also keep DA in just elite or reaper modes because that's where the zergers are. Take it out of hard and wilderness areas. I would highly suggest not nerfing new players any further to make game play that much harder for them and possibly turning them off from the game entirely. Our guild has accepted many new players and have helped them to level and fall in love with the game, but I suspect there are many guildless folks out there trying to make it in ddo on their own. With inflation and economic issues world wide many folks don't have the $$ to spend right away on the game either.

I can attest that I've had to cut back spending on the game. ? Last double point promo I didn't even buy my usual $200.

It wouldn't surprise me if there are others who have had to cut back as well due to that peaky inflation.

I have always hated waking up naked on a beach with a halfling undoing his belt buckle while leering over me asking if I "ain't undead"

If that doesn't put off first time new players, nothing will.

I personally hate TRing all the way back to level 1 or trying to create a new toon. It's the worst content in the game. Filled with mostly sewer quests. I really think they should make some new low level content because it just gets boring doing the same low level quests over and over because that's all that is available. At least we have the feywilds at level 5 now.

Maybe they could make borderlands the start area, rather than korthos.

Graphics and a variety landscapes makes borderlands more appealing than cold korthos and it's questionable halfling necrophiliac.

Just saying.

ya, good idea

+I think they should drop the price of Guest Passes. New Players could more easily test out the content they like and feel more welcome, raising the chances they may buy points/purchase some packs or go VIP. That would only help bring positive chatter about DDO in social circles.

That's been the case since the game first came out so really nothing new. DDO has always had a steep learning curve and having a tabletop background is only slightly useful. And like any game, many people have written new player game guides to assist others, so the information is out there if people are willing to read it.

As to the low level dungeons not being exciting, I think that depends more on your mindset. If you go into the game willing to get into it as a subsitute for tabletop gaming; turn down the room lights, turn up the game sounds and let your self fall into the settings spell, it can be quite exciting. But if you just see it as something to blast through .... yeah, boring as snot. I get it.

Many have complained about the low level content from the aspect of the monsters you're seeing. Everyone's so used to blowing out of the starter zones able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, that it comes as a shock to be put into the roll of a fledgling hero that really does need to start out killing rats.

While not a bad idea, they'd need to invest some time and money into it and rewrite the quests so they'd have the 'newbie' info blurbs in them. Borderlands really only works as a starter area now for the more experienced that have done Korthos's a thousand times and knows all the info stuff in those quests.

My personal opinion, Korthos has a very good tutorial for new players.
Borderlands is much more fun.

BUT...as a new player I had no clue that guest passes even exist. I thought that just because a potion says "to use this on another player (might say party member, can't remember) drag it to your hotbar and target the other player" it would do it.
I must have spent over a month trying to get a buff pot or remove curse or something to apply to someone else.
It might be really cool to fix some of the very new player things to be less confusing.

Also, maybe a "Poster" or some kind of sign outside the wayward lobster that says to ask the barkeep for quest info. I do love that new thing.

I think Korthos is still a good tutorial area, and has a nice narrative to boot. It introduces to you to puzzles, different enemy types, and cool traps. It encourages more exploration than borderlands.

A graphics update for Korthose may be nice, and some updates to make the 2 protection missions less frustrating.

Misery's peak is a great quest in my books, and a nice capstone for tutorial island; I certainly had fun getting lost in the ice room my first few times, and coming back to learn it.
