New universal trees

Feels like we're about due for a new universal tree.

So far, the ideas I've liked are:
1) sword and board tree to support clerics, monks, EK, etc.
2) thrower build support
3) undead race tree (death knight or vampire)

What else do people like?

Well #1 has been brainstormed to death. Most people say the Paladin/Fighter tree should be a universal and replace those trees with something new.
2. Maybe something not dagger related as VKF already make throwing daggers amazing.
3. While this next Xpac would have been a perfect place for an undead tree I feel like they decided to do Dhampire instead which will probably fill that role, but SSG likes to surprise me.

Universal trees need to be well thought out as they can wildly affect diversity. I'm looking at VKF and Inquisitor as an example here. Even with nerf Inquis is super strong and dominates a lot of gameplay.

As far as #3, a Revenant tree would rock
I'd also like to see a spear build enter the game with broadly AOE attacks similar to shadar kai's chain attacks

Last universal tree I think was Horizon Walker in 2021.
First Archetypes came in 2022.

My thought is that archetypes replaced universal trees and we won't see another universal. If they had archetypes back when inquisitive, feydark illusionist and horizon walker came out they would have made those archetypes as well. But now there are so many players using universal trees for classes they weren't really intended for ( I do that a lot myself ) that the bell simply cannot be unrung.

I won't take the time to look it up cuz...lazy. BUT, but the devs have stated in the past that Archetypes are the new path forward over the Universal Trees. Sad, cuz Universal Trees definitely open up possibilities.

Intelligence based Universal trees for Wizard schools and Rogue variants which focuses at utility, recovery, defense, companions, various attack and defense slas/clickies. Wits and Skill based Buff, debuffs and empowers.

Take the beloved characteristics from Palemaster, Spellsinger, Angel of Vengeance; Gnome, Aasimar, Human; Feydark, Inquisitive , Falconry like most beloved trees and develop decent trees with mutliple sub options for Wizard and Rogue.

(No more Undead, Super Futuristic Technology, Shapeshifter, Supernatural Creature theme based ones aswell. Ordinary Humanoid theme but using Wits through Trained Magic, Tricks, Skills and Specialties to change Tactics and Strategies according to situation; according to npc types and quest progression as it meants to be at real D&D)

If it will be arch type then please make Enhancement Trees for Each school. Sub type of many Rogue variants and not only two or three enhancement trees. Also please not based on boring Physical attacks. Empowering Physical attacks to crit and damage is the most Boring/Brain dead way to play. Please improve spell point use and regeneration and more. Not only SLA and Metamagics aswell.

New mechanics based on Magic, Special abilites, Skill based goodies. Virtually Social (skill) interaction with Npcs to Bypass and Overcome Obstacles.

I can tell the same for Quests. Less physical combat more npc interaction, wits and tactics.

I will buy. Thank you.

And Racial Variants, and Class Tree Updates, and Quest Epicification, and (apparently now) Iconics too. Who knows if we'll ever get another new ED either after MT.

They love to introduce a new system, implement it for a while, then drop it for The Next Thing.

I'd still love to see a Brawler tree with support for Unarmed (distinct and exclusive with Martial Arts style) and Clubs/Greatclubs

I don't mind more universal trees (a universal tank tree would be nice in particular), but I definitely like archetypes more because they have past lives attached. So, if they are only going to work on one of them, I'm definitely happy they switched to archetypes. I do agree, it is amazing the ways the players can come up with to become OP in this game and universal trees are often a pathway to a lot of that.

For some reason I cant believe that there will be no more universal trees. Why? They make $$$ from selling them. Why would they not want to make more $$$.

You know what would be interesting? A universal tree that gains additional benefits/bonuses based on past life feats.

Imbues are largely useless without an immunity stripper. Way too many mobs have blanket immunities. Why the heck are the skeletons at the end of LoD immune to fire?!
Because not all skeletons are created equally. Remember the blackbone skeletons in Delera's?

- THF universal tree (lots of classes have bad support for this or a pigeon holed in staff builds. If you give it a bit of self-healing like Ravager it would make for many fun TR builds)
- Reach weapon tree (could be the THF tree. Spears would be fun)
- Throwing weapon tree (and not just tiny ones, could be javelin, spears...).
- Summoner/hireling tree (could be used to fund fixes to summon/hireling AI)

Since I usually play X / Rogue 2, the universal ones are the only ones I can get the capstone in, so I'd like more caster trees: currently there is just Feydark - and Harper, which is sort of half and half. Maybe some summoner type thing with special summons. Abjuration is the red-headed stepchild of spell schools, so some sort of banishment and protection-based caster tree. Also maybe an untyped damage caster tree. A symbolist tree, which uses old and new symbol spells - also has some healing symbols. EK type tree but for archers.... I'll stop there.

I would love a universal tree with some cleave attacks in it. I like to build weird/niche melees which rarely have room in the build for cleave feats. Being able to access them on an enhancement tree would be fun.

Soo....you think we will NOT get an archetype for each class? LOL
We have 1 sub-race...I am surrre they'll pick that up again any day now and give us subraces for all the races and then iconics for each race and then archetypes for each class.

Any...day...now. 🙄
