And I'd rather have a game that looks and sounds good. If their artists lack the talent then what's the problem with using AI? This is a genuine question, by the way. If you're just generally against AI then that's understandable, but there are many who seem to care about AI only when it threatens the labor of supposed "creative" types.
I am generally against ai*. But I do take special issue to your apparent belief that art is an appropriate thing to industrialize, and that opponents to that concept are protecting labor for labor’s sake.
Your line “supposed ‘creative’ types” tells me everything I need to know about the value you ascribe those creating the art you consume on a daily basis. To you, it’s sounds and sights- filler to your experience, apparently- and the origin doesn’t matter. Fair enough. You could use ai produce something that looks a lot like Van Gogh, but personally, I’d rather have your best attempt at art work, even if it was a hand-drawn scribble.
Edit: that doesn’t mean we can’t criticize DDO’s art or even compare it to the potentially raised standard due to ai tools. For me it’s not as simple as “better” or “more talent,” though. I want to see real creative effort and appealing execution.
*Another Edit, for the technical people: I’m not against all things that could be called ai. Just talking about generative, ChatGPT, that kinda stuff. Machine learning at large has some very cool applications and implications, and I am actually interested in things like alife and evolution sims.
