Noob help

I'm only been playing for a few months. Made a new character on this server. I'm in need of tips/help. What days should I be looking for raids mostly favor and learning them? Do people do the lower level one or mostly max level ones?

When I join groups I'm always being carried. How do I get better general tips? I'm thinking maybe gear. For reaper contact how should I start getting into that? Is it best to wait tell a few lives or something else? I mostly rely on cleric npc to heal me. I've seen people run throw a quest and take close to no dmg or need little healing. I would like to get to a point where I help the group. Instead of being carried.

For lev20 what kind of gear or state do I need? I know death block and just learned about life sealing items. Is there anything else being a fresh lev20 should have before really starting to do quests? I know each class is different but maybe the basic.

If there anything else I should look into let me know.

Thank for any help

The Emerald Claw does Strahd and Baba on Sundays and both Thunderholme raids on Thursday. Both nights we start about 9:30pm Eastern US. We welcome new players to any of them and will teach you if you don't know them.

You do need to be flagged for Strahd. Baba can be flagged in a few minutes on heroic. If you join early for Thunderholme we can flag you.

For all the raids you can be level 20 and still join, but expect to die a bit especially if you are melee.

Gear is definitely important. Most of us have been playing for years and have many sets of items lined up for each life. If you own Vecna expansion you can get a 3 piece set. Armor, helm, cloak - all level 18. The sets are crafted so you have many options to pick from for whatever class you play. Some people wear these items till level 30. Borderlands has some good level 21 items for newer players. A speed 30% item and deathblock item should be in any gear set you use. Both are available as topaz augments.

Play the game the way you like to play. I did not start with raids until I've been playing about 5 years. Take your time, enjoy the game and learn the quests. Use the DDO Wiki for help, it got strategies for each quest and wildernesses. Rather do the quests with only one person that runs with you on your speed. Explore all the quests to learn the paths and where the traps are. Once you get around a bit better, try Reaper 1 at 3 or 4 levels up, it is not so hard. Collect gear on the way up and get a couple lives done. Strimtom got some good first life builds, that are easy to follow. Take your time and explore the game. Even after 10 years of playing, I still find out something new every now and then.

Thank you for the tips. I've tried do reaper and just end up dyeing. Most people just want reaper quest. Ok I'll try waiting on reaper quest for a life or few. This life doing dwarf pally. Want to get 5 tome or even maybe 8 tome. I'll try and slow down a bit. Right now when I hit lev20 I know I need deathblock, lifeseal, 30% striding, and freedom of movement.

Thank with the raid times and day. Is there any gear or stats requirements for raids? Use to other game need like fire res, hp over x.

Lifeseal is two effects combined: deathblock plus negative energy absorption. You don’t need a deathblock item or augment if you have lifeseal.

Hi there. Welcome to DDO!

The first thing you should do when you reach level 20 is: speak to the Fatespinner in the Marketplace, and have her send you to the Junction of the Spheres. Enter each portal, and claim each Epic Destiny available. Only Macrotechnic might be unavailable to you, as you have to buy that one. Simply claiming them will give you Destiny Points to spend in your Epic Destiny trees (they are like enhancement trees, but for levels 20+).

Pay close attention to the quest level, relative to your own. Even doing quests just slightly underlevel, can make it quite a bit more challenging. Try to have Fortification over 100%, Deathblock, Dodge, PRR & MRR, Saving Throws, and to a lesser extent AC, as high as you can get them. And stack those hitpoints! Look for items that give you more Constitution. That's very important for staying alive. Being alive is good. It means you can do stuff.

As for the other part-- I completely understand where you're coming from. Feeling like you are just a soul stone, to be lugged around. Or like you aren't contributing to the cause, is no fun. Past Lives, Reaper points, and especially Gear, will all help for sure.

Though truly: the biggest difference is from game knowledge i.e knowing the quests, understanding game mechanics, monster weaknesses etc.

But it's hard to glean those things, if you are just chasing a trail of uber players taking care of everything in the dungeon. Right?

Well you have some options. You could:

-Play solo for a while, so that you can learn the quests at your own pace, and take in the story fully (I still do this for quests that are brand new to me).
-Find like-minded players who are also new/returning and in a similar place as you (they are out there).
-Find veteran players who are considerate, and willing to slow down/show you the ropes (there are some, after all).
-Find a good guild (not just for the buffs, but for the camaraderie and help they would provide).
-Take it upon yourself to look things up, and reach out for more info (you are already doing this, so that's great).
-A mixture of all of the above.

Regarding raids...Most of them take place at "end game". So level 30+. However, you will still find people running raids like Chronoscope, Vault of Night, Demon Queen (Zawabi's Revenge), often enough at lower levels. Each of these has an Epic Version that is between levels 21-24. Sometimes you will see other non-Legendary raids too.

Keep in mind that some raids require flagging, before you can actually do them. That usually involves completing certain quests within the same story arc prior, in order to be "flagged" for the raid. This page is still a handy reference: https://ddowiki.com/page/Help!_Am_I_Raid_Ready

Best of luck! Feel free to message me in game, if you ever need anything. And above all: don't forget to have fun. ;)

Honestly, I've b een playing almost a year and a half. I rely heavily on healbot hirelings to keep me going. for gear, I got some of the expansions to get named gear. Feywild -5, ravenloft-10, sharn -15, borderlands -1, and saltmarsh upgrade from 3 to 20. Other than epic borderlands (21) and upgraded saltmarsh, there's not a lot of epic level gear to get. Or you can just deal with random gear you pick up and acquire in the auction house. Which you'll have to do until you can get named gear items. Currently for end game gear, I recommend Isle of dread. You'll actually get the gear and it's really good. Stay away from Myth drannor, you won't get any gear there except for fallen age weapons. I do play it for the xp to grind my character past lives, and the gold seal hireling is really good for healing and ressurection. Same goes for frogo(saltmarsh) and muse (feywild) for lower level rogue and bard(heal) I haven't had success tackling raids yet. Find a class you're comfortable playing and enjoy. If you're not having fun with it, try something else. IF you're not too far in on a first life and hating that class, don't sweat scrapping that character and creating a new one. Keep in mind gear and hirelings have an effective range of approximately 5 levels. So level 10 content you're taking care of muse more than he's taking care of you. and around level 8 content frogo can't disable devices without it blowing up. For me a MMO mouse really helped out, I got a red dragon variety. It allows you to hot key and program more buttons that are easily used for more actions. This becomes particularly helpful in caster classes. But that also means you have to figure out what keys you use to hot key which can be complex depending on what you want to keep for other game options, like communicating with team members and what not.

Other than epic borderlands (21) and upgraded saltmarsh, there's not a lot of epic level gear to get.

There are some actually pretty decent two piece options to chose from when considering upgraded gear from Demon Sands and Red Fens. I'll particularly point out a couple old favorites like Firestorm Greaves and the Ring of Spell Storing. Both of which when upgraded to their min level 20 epic forms are simply excellent items.

If you are looking to learn raids , I highly recommend paying attention for "High lords" teaching raids on Sat. hosted by Voodyspyce and his guild. I have personally attended a few of them , and watched on his youtube/twitch. For random generic things to always have, Potions to cure different things (curse/poison/disease ect.) wands to throw some heals out (scrolls if you have the UMD) and some raise dead scrolls (again with umd) Also if you can just run around behind group and break things that group is missing adds a nice amount of exp while allowing you to learn where to go in content.

Ok thanks for the tips. I dislike running quest on reaper. I'm basally being 3-5 shotted and other are just one shotting everything. I can do hard and elite ok. But once it goes into reaper. I fell useless and not contributing to the group. I do use ddowiki and loot up quest and named items.

I'll start careing pots, scrolls, and wands. Do wands heal more then 20 hp or are wands more fore buffs? I didn't think needed them tell around lev30. Most games don't need this like those tell end game.

For stats prr and mrr are they good? I was told there not worth investing into. So I haven't been looking at those. For a melee dps what should I aim for? Is it a flat rate number or a percentage?

Don't quote me on this , but i believe its high skull reaper where MRR and PRR start losing value due to mobs just doing that much dmg and it's more about just not getting hit (cc mobs and avoid dmg with high AC/dodge) I personally try to run with over 100 for both while doing mostly 4-6skulls. Wands for healing is more to heal others early , then heal scrolls later if no one can do something else. Try to make sure you have some form of shield (spell) for protection from magic missles. (most "buffs" in this game is more about small bonuses that add up)
