One thing this game desperately needs is a guild update.

Or more specifically a Guild Powers update.
Ok, not talking about guild buffs ... yea they are great but not the subject here.
There needs to be an update that allows Guild Masters to enact rules, requirements, advancement modifications
that effect the members of their guilds.
>>> Nothing exploitive ! <<< Sorry, no double exp for guild members. :p
.................................
By doing this, it allows players to find specific guilds that embrace their favorite style of play.
and before someone says it " That is NOT FAIR! what if I want to do so and so and the stupid
guild leader makes a rule to prevent it ! "
Answer - Don't join that guild.
Possible guild leader powers (Some might be locked behind minimal guild level requirements)
--------------------
Minimum or Maximum character level to join. Pretty straight forward.
--------------------
Character race required. For all you Dwarf only guilds.
--------------------
Guild member tax - represented as X amount of Plat per week/month
--------------------
****************************** Now for the more interesting stuff
******************************
Guild wide EXP >>> reduction <<< - if the guildmaster wants to promote slower advancement.
--------------------
Guild members joining are automatically reduced to 1 exp at 1st lvl (should have a pop up warning)
This works to allow guild members to make an iconic character, then join the guild so you can now play from level 1
------------------
Guild permadeath 'ish' option. This would have adjustable settings.
0-(whatever) number of rez allowed before you go to the dead lands.
allow or don't allow raise dead by fellow party members in the dungeon to prevent a trip to the dead lands.
allow or don't allow raise dead by hirelings.
--- and so on.
Important <<< When this option is turned on and you get sent to the dead lands, you stay there UNTIL
you quit the guild with that character. Then you get a free trip back to the living.
This also helps if you die via a glitch, in that case your guild can just re-invite you.
------------------
Restrict or disallow the use of hirelings by guild members.
------------------
The creation of guild specific items (crafting) that allow guild members
to teleport to each other to facilitate dungeon runs.
-----------------

Stuff like this.
Make guilds IMPORTANT.
Make being in the right guild helpful in enjoying your play style.

ok, the individual suggestions are only for illustration,
the important part is giving guilds tools to shape how their members play the game.

The number one tool in a guild leaders toolbox for building a guild of like minded players who follow a theme or playstyle of whatever, is something they fortunately already have, and I have heard of guilds like that already existing, and that tool is:

*drumroll*

🎉 COMMUNICATION! 🎉

yaaaaay!

That is then followed by trust and the "honour system".

I'm all for more options and tools to help people play... but I'm not sure about the above examples. Most of them seem a bit too extreme and invasive for a single person (guild leader) to have over others (guild members). Also, the last time they tried to have ways for a guild leader to customize their guild in more meaningful ways than what we currently have, it was bugged in a bad way that they (at the time) could not figure out how to fix and thus could only remove those options. Maybe the current devs could figure out how to do it without it bugging out, but my confidence in that is low.

(the previous customization was simply to allow a guild to make custom ranks, so instead of leader - officer - member, you could have multiple/more different levels of guild hierarchy and name them yourself. The bug was that they could not make it unique to each guild, so when one person made a custom rank, it got applied to EVERY guild on that server. Now imagine the above permadeath suggestion bugging out in that fashion and applying to every guild without their knowledge due to one random person making that change for their own guild. I don't think the game could recover from the mass quits that would result should it bug out like that... and again, such a bug has precedence in DDO and could not be resolved)

More guild options could be cool, but my goodness it needs to be done carefully and correctly, if at all.

The only major enhancement I see for current guilds would be the ability to join more than one at the same time or some other orthogonal permanent grouping mechanism for special interests.

Guild remains unchanged. It's the tag you wear and your "home" for social and most things. But there's others you can join at the same time.

Cult / Collective / Cartel / Whatever is the specialized group you join to cover what your guild doesn't handle; eg. you're the permadeath guy in a guild you love that has no interest in permadeath. So you ALSO join "One Life", the death-cult as well to cover that particular need.

What do these extra "guilds" give the player? Chat channel, motd, online schedule, and group banking for intragroup trading. Perhaps other things. I don't have much interest in multiguilding in DDO, but have done it in other games. Those with particular desires might have other needs they'd like to see for "second guild".

As far as DDO's guild system - the simpler the better.

The best tool for guilds is Discord and nothing SSG can do will top that.

Large guilds struggle with the member limit and small casual guilds struggle with leveling up. If 2 things needed to be addressed - those would be the 2.

Yeah yeah yeah. Nice in theory, until nobody is looking.

You have no idea how many "permadeath guild" peeps I've played with over the years, that died in a trap, because a dragged snacked on them, because there was lag, because "there was lag" or whatever, and then just took the raise and continued playing. All because no other guild members of them were near?

As a matter of fact, I've known only one single player in over 13 years that replied: "Sorry, I'm permadeath and need to erase this toon. Thanks for all the fish and goodbye." That was myself (and I'm not even in a permadeath guild).

Let's face it, any semblance of honour that players of DDO had flew out the window together with the last of the role-players.

A system where a guild leader can enforce his or her rules, no excecptions, would help.

Minimum or Maximum character level to join. Pretty straight forward.
Why do you need this? For the convenience of calling guildies to group up?

Or allow for guild raid parties. i.e. levels 30-36 only?
--------------------
Character race required. For all you Dwarf only guilds.

Okay, is this for role-playing? AFAIK, role playing in DDO has been dead since 10 years ago. Nowadays, nobody reads the quest text, nobody want to watch the video more than twice, and people are creating power builds that doesn't make sense, with barbarians running rampant.
--------------------
Guild member tax - represented as X amount of Plat per week/month

Nobody would join a guild that requires guild member tax. Just ask people to contribute to the ship fund is enough.

Slower XP? You must be joking. People are zerging for fastest XP possible. Why would anyone want slower XP. Having too much money and want to give SSG a bonus?

I find it humorous that a player can post ideas for guilds that would be totally optional for any particular guild
and other players will be quick to attack it in fear that somehow giving other guilds options will somehow 'hurt' them.
There is a truth that older people eventually figure out that is lost on the young.
Your not as important as you think.
Other people will barely recognize your existence.
and if something other people are doing have no effect on yourself, then ignore it.
You don't want to be in a guild where the guild master can set enforceable rules ? Then don't join that one.
You want a guild with no rules ? Sure, there are a bunch out there ... join them or make your own.
Pretty simple really

Reminds me of when Denaerys was presented with a policy to give former slaves the option to just sign themselves back up, presented as ok because its voluntary. Was an interesting dilemma. Analogously, I think most credit card terms should just not be allowed and the freedom of the little guy to choose argument obviously did not work out in the real world. With guilds it could work out, idk. I would focus on giving guild leaders more visibility of the account/members distinction.

what is stopping you from doing most of this in your guild?
if you want it, and your subordinates agree to it, what's the problem...you shouldn't need the game to enforce the rules you and your guildees decide to play under?
if the problem is people wont willingly succumb to your demands, i think you have found your issue...

Or you've been in the same guild for 20 years, followed them from the Original EU servers to the US servers and back again. Have several toons that have just lost their racial completionist feat because of the new race and Bam the guild leader puts a minimum character level requirement in place. So now your have to choose whether to abandon your guild of 20 years or give up on your almost complete TR train that you've been working on since TR'ing was a thing.

I'd also vote NO to all of this. It would require dev resources that I believe could be better used elsewhere.

It's pretty easy to establish rules for a guild. Discord is simple and easy tool that many guilds use to promote their community and post policies. If a member is not interested, they leave. If they ignore them, the guild leader can boot them. Problem solved either way.

That said, the forums exist for players to make suggestions (among other reasons). Doesn't mean all suggestions are good, or that everyone will agree on one. This just happens to be a bad one.

I find it humorous you're trying to defend a lame suggestion. This game has MANY other areas of concern than to spend valuable resources to code something that might cause friction with the player base.

I wonder what all that stuff would do to the ship lag that still pops up from time to time. Some people don't like using the airships now.
