Playable Kobolds?

"I don't like the idea of other people having fun" energy from the kobold haters. We didn't complain when they added dragonborn, who weren't even in the lore of Eberron at the time, because they're just another avenue for people to enjoy the game and feel cool!

Everybody on this forum, playing this game? Just wants to have fun. The shape of that fun might differ from user to user, but we're all in this for the fun of it!

Kobolds get a bonus to jumping back.
Kobold Iconic is Kobold Paragon: Requires you to solo a custom Legendary "Enter the kobold" to unlock it.
Hipster Kobold wants to show you his mist, it's really obscure.
Kobolds no longer hate Kobold players.

There is literally no reason not to add Kobold.

Revenge of the Kobolds pack.

Im thinking a new quest chain that delves into the reason they infested the harbor. There was a threat that pushed them there (adventurers) and they want to fight back. The bosses of the quest pack are all members of playable races and have an NPC guild of their own just like The Fallen from Sharn. Maybe the quests are ABOUT the acceptance of Kobolds into Stormreach and you defeat but dont kill members of the "adventurer" guild but then face them for real in a raid similar to PN, but in Crystal Cove map? As you gain favor of particular Kobold Worker Union members, you get buffs/marks similar to the monolith attunement in Isle of Dread? Maybe you have to do difficult optionals to get those marks and can turn them in for shinies...

Bring an iconic at the same time, and introduce an Iconic Completionist feat that comes with it, because DDO has already made Kobolds iconic. Everyone will want it. Done.

I'd go for it, but I think we need more rock & metal references, so "Fear of the Yark" would have to be the name of at least one quest, if not the pack itself.

Fear of the Yark could be one of the later quests in the pack, one of the more difficult ones.

Also about rock and metal, you reminded me of an idea I had for an inn run by dwarves in a pen and paper campaign, the inn is called the Rock & Hard Place :D

I'm a recent addition to the DDO player base but I've heard rumblings, rumors that DDO, possibly under Standing Stone, put the offer of playable kobolds being added to the game some time down the line - they were in a community vote against Dragonborn and lost. But losing the vote doesn't necessarily mean they wouldn't ever be made playable, only that they weren't prioritized

With as much official Eberron lore as Kobolds have been given, it's surprising to me that they haven't already been added. I've had a lot of fun with Kobold players at my D&D table, and representing kobolds as a DM - and one of these days I'll have an opportunity to play one myself. The question is, will it be on paper or on the internet through DDO? Only time will tell.

Please feel free to discuss your favorite Kobold moments.
iirc Lynnabel said it was a "coin toss" between dragonborn + kobold. Lynnabel later said that they binned the Kobold project, but no one in IT bins anything.

I vaguely remember it being discussed during a Lammania chat preview (remember those days) before we had discord more centralized, which is how Lynnabel answered the message directly instead of being filtered out during a Fridays at Four or a discord chat in more modern times.

I mean. As long as there's Kobold NPC models in the game I reckon it's not as binned as all that - but I also imagine a lot of what applies to Dragonborn could apply to kobold. Plus they've got Tabaxi for tail modeling

The pack finale, where Arboth finally ascends to dragonhood! It'd be a cruel twist to have it all be a dream, courtesy of the Quori.

Can't remember who suggested it before, but having them able to equip docents instead of regular armour (they're not slotting them in, they're using them as shiny baubles) with more limited cosmetic options would save a chunk of effort on artwork & models - they could just have a natural AC boost that scales with level & is boosted by the docent to be equivalent to armour & a racial enhancement (in tier 1 if not the first AP spent) that basically determines what equivalent weight class of armour they have.

I would greatly prefer a playable kobold race, but having a kobold suit cosmetic armor similar to the lizardfolk would also let me RP as one or recreate my pen and paper character with potentially less effort. Cosmetic armor that polymorphs the player into another race, but without armor options?

Just play a Gnome and run around wearing the bunny rabbit ears. Problem solved.
This does not solve the problem; gnomes walk plantigrade, no tails, their snoofler not good for snoofin' out shinies, their toofs no good for biting stuff - and did u know gnomes don't come from eggs? What kind of creature doesn't come from an egg, for yark's sake!?
