Please Consider the plat AH

I think part of the limit is a plalyer behavior control. You can't get the money out of the mail if puts you over the limit, but a lot of people don't really think about that and just start screaming it's broken and they're coins are hostage.

We already have folks that create AH posts for items that no one would ever buy. While setting the bid min / max as high as possible. Effectively allowing for the AH / Mail to act as a sudo bank, as an alt can (later) bid just shy of the maximum to transfer plat. With the main account using the two weeks to "hold" the funds. Sure, there are the AH fees, but people doing this make so much plat that it's not even a real concern. Expanding the bankable / transferable plat amounts would only exasperate this situation further.

Instead, what NEEDS to happen is to expand what plat can be used for. Maybe relaxing the BtA and BtC rules for legacy named gear would help in this regard. (Bind on Equip instead) Basic idea is to allow for the market to value plat for something more than just a junk currency. (Example: All loot prior to the Sharn saga.) Unfortunately I have ZERO faith that SSG cares to improve on the AH system, as their primary goal is to sell shards from the DDO store, not cater to the needs of its "customers". Hence we're stuck with two monetary systems that no one values at all.

Or better yet just remove gold, silver and copper from the game and eliminate the ridiculous plat cap we have in game! I mean seriously! It's a dumb mechanic that shouldn't be present. We shouldn't have to make mules just to hold plat for heavens sake!

I didn't even notice that gold, silver, copper are still a thing... Been a long while since I used or cared about those.

The current plat limit on a toon is a little over 4 million. If you sold something for 4 million(if you're not pure free to play, they're used to be lower and I think still is?), even after the 30% plat sink, that would still give 2.8 million plat in one transaction. So if you're toon has say 2.5 million on it, you would be unable to remove the money from the game mail, it would be held hostage with a message that it would exceed the plat total. And players go nuts when that happens. I've seen some epic meltdowns because they assumed the game broke and they were being cheated and didn't stop to consider the math issue at all. *Shrugs*

Platinum is a broken game currency which can't be salvaged without asking for some pain for the players. There are too few sinks and ways to make ppl spend plats regularily, hence the AH mirrors that. Why spending workhours to code-wrestle the AH, if its basis doesn't work?

Great problem with plat as currency is: There is an unlimited amount in the game, as in one high level quest you gain more than you can possibly spend between quests, and you even get items that you can also sell for good measure.

Ways to make platinum maybe work again, which would come with great pains:
  • New Deal strategy: Set all plat to 0 (or other fixed) for the players while having a new fixed ingame economy.
  • Megaflation strategy: Set prices of items player regularily buy but can't produce themselves very high (like ingredients and scrolls)
  • New Tax strategy: Whenever you click on apply all guild buffs, pay a "Convenience tax" that takes away X platinum (probably at least 5000). Either walk around or pay for it. Same goes for other actions that used to be free.

The Shard Exchange otoh does work, as AS isn't a currency that can be farmed easily and therefore it has a lot more value.

Sorry but the Shard AH has no value except for the rare moment a choice filigree shows up. Even then it's often better to Discord / msg guildies that pay thru the nose at the AH.

On a sales note, the Shard AH needs a much lower cap. We know SSG wants their 30% predatory bite, but Otto's for 20,000+ AS is silly. ;)

Perhaps, logically and play-wise. But... the plat cap is the largest number you can store in a 32 bit unsigned integer (in COPPER).. works out to just shy of 4.3 million platinum.

Been a long time since I've been a programmer, but it seems to me that 64 bit game on 64 bit server should allow for 64 bit unsigned integer for currency storage, shouldn't it?

Perhaps that's what we should be pushing for....

. . . Buy moar stuff, chief. That'll solve your problem.

I've been playing since launch and NEVER NOT ONCE has too much platinum EVER been a problem.
But if you truly - TRULY - cannot find a solution for your too much plat woes, then I make this suggestion:

Every time you log in for a month, go to Korthos, the Keep, and/or the Harbor and announce in chat that you are giving away X platinum to the first Y number of new players that respond and then give it to them. You'll reduce your plat surplus AND help new players who haven't hit the plat cap and need to buy hirelings and pots and such.

Or just mail plat to random 1st - 3rd level characters so they have a nice surprise waiting in their mailboxes.

This is all very weird... plat is not infinite in this game.

Yeah, plat is almost useless in this game too, since anything worthwhile goes on the shard auction house. No reason to limit to, it's not like the limit is keeping something in check. But on the other hand, I already don't know what to spend my capped platinum on, so, maybe no reason to let it go higher either.

I’ve bought good items for plat. You just have to check periodically and know what is good to look for.

"What should I be looking out for other than portable holes for reincarnations I guess?"

If you plan on crafting, items with two slots for blanks are always useful, bluesteel weapons for oozes/rust monsters, collectables,
items with useful properties like slay living/freezing/etc. If you keep TR'ing, decent crafted lowbie gear is great. Probably around
100 two-slot crafting blanks in storage, plus some freezing and mithril shields.
