A large roman colosseum where combatants can go to test their skills. Only one chance for each character, if you get killed...the character won't be permanently dead BUT...it can't re-enter the colosseum.

Various challenges including PvP, player v monsters, player v reapers etc etc

I guess different levels can be chosen allowing all character levels to test their skills

as much as i love ddo pvp back in the day, balancing has been made without pvp in mind, so it wouldnt be as cool as it used to be. Players vs monsters tho... that sounds sick

How much has balancing impacted gameplay? Whilst the math has been impacted how has that translated into actual gaming experience?

I like it, except the PvP, doesn't really work on DDO. But a Colosseum type event where you fight boss monsters round by round would be really good. It could be done as group and solo events. With Roman gladiator style cosmetics.

In DDO a property equipped melee created specifically to fight PvP arena would effectively
kill any caster in the event.
1 sec. in --- caster is stunned.
2 seconds in --- caster is dead.

Animation delays for casters make them vulnerable to being 1-shotted.
It would not even be fair.

Also, dueling is nothing like HCL.
I would say apples and oranges ... but more like
melons and cabbages ... it is that different

im no pvp expert, but i had a friend ask my to duel, i think he was bored and he thought he would win...he was on a fist monk i was on a caster druid...the first 2 or 3 went as you say, he incapacitated me and killed me quite quickly then i got my bearings and toasted him about 8 times in a row and he lost interest.

there may be some generalized truth to what you say but i think some match ups might not go this way, like a monk or pali may not fair to well against word of balance for instance? i dont know though, i am not really into pvp, and maybe things have changed since then with that spell in particular? i think maybe i was having success with salt ray as well...this was years ago...

I think we need this IF we can convince SSG it can generate evil money...but not too much money (we all know how SSG freaksout at the thought an idea can generate revenue). However a straight "slugit out" may favor some builds over others so perhaps sme kindof maze/barriers to reduce the likelihood of oneshot victories.
