Pre-made character

Hello DDO community!

I started my first character and subbed. However, the first 3 levels of my toon and initial stat distribution were for a pre-made pally class unfortunately.

I wanted to tank end game content, but I'm not sure if my build will allow me to get to 20 to reincarnate, as a first life is out of the question now.

It's only level 5 right now and I've grinned out a mount. Should I cut the cord now and rerolled? Or should I push through? I can run some elites and r1s currently.

Honestly this game is great so far, but the learning curve is brutal. Any commentary, guides or anything helpful is welcome.

Thank you all for the great experience I've already had.

The pre-made builds are all over a decade old and are absolutely terrible.
It's ridiculous that they still exist because they actively turn new people away from the game.
I suggest you create a new character.

As for paladin tanks.
People prefer to not level as a tank because it is incredibly slow.
They level as a dps build and then when they are at 30 they use a lesser heart of wood to respec their build into a tank.
You do get 1 of those free when you create a new character so that is also an option for you.

People in DDO are generally very friendly and generous to new players, if you need any help can always open up an LFG and ask for it.

Most builds don't start coming together til 12 or so. I'd stick with it, at least long enough to grind out your house K and coin lord faction. Then you can use this room as a mule, with the Xtra 80 slots.

Frankly, doing elites and r1 as a fresh new player is crazy, I think your doing just fine.

Welcome. First off yes the learning curve is more like an overhanging cliff face but it is climbable. https://ddowiki.com is your friend. I'd agree with rolling up a new build and relegating this one to mule status. The pre made paths are hilariously bad. There's plenty of people on the forums who can give you a build guide for what you want to do if you ask. The mount you've got will appear in the stable tab of any new character so you don't have to grind that again. Also would strongly recommend finding a newbie friendly guild and asking for an invite. There's lots of people will slow down and explain things if you let them know you're new.

Already good advice in here. Join a guild if you can. The wiki is your friend! Without a doubt your first character is going to be flawed. It's part of the learning curve (I learned quite a bit by doing the wrong thing...) You may even want to create another character to just get a feel for things (or use this one) as a guinea pig of sorts. Welcome to the game & forums and don't hesitate to ask questions!

A note on character creation from the Wiki page:

OP, for serious, welcome to DDO...
You have a long road...but that road should be exceptionally fun if you stay the course for the next few years (YMMV pending resources).
Try not to "abandon" a toon that you believe needs to be re-rolled. DDO is TR based, so you can always score a goal by TRing at 20 or 30; and then rebuild from scratch with a little more past life bonus and some player experience.
But, my best advice would be to join a guild on your server that matches your IRL personality, goals, aspirations, maturity, etc. (Preferably, that guild would have a Discord channel) Get unbiased/ reasonable feedback from some sort of respectable source, (which will be very difficult for you to detect and find in the beginning). DDO is full of people who believe they know it all and will push their trash onto you and expect you to enjoy it, while not taking your learning curve into consideration. I am telling you now; politely, yet sternly ask them to GFY. Try to find that quiet player that excels at whatever class you're playing and is not a complete blowhard narcissist. My decade and a half experience has been...the louder they are, the more trash toons they produce.

Most importante...have fun, hear everyone, listen to noone!

Just the thing that all responsers said: Have fun!

It is a fantastic feeling to run the quests the first time! And please make mistakes. It is the thing you will learn the most! And we all started there.. but the way to a better build, player is so much fun!

And dont plan to many lifes.. yes it is a TR game, but dont take it too seriously.. if you stick to it it will come soon enough😊

not everyone is born to be king.
Most of the nearby land is already taken; might be possible Far Far Away. He has a trusty steed.

IMHO, check the Paladin sub-forum for newbie friendly paladin builds and follow one. Paladin is a great class for a newbie. It's not only strong in play, it also gives you a universally useful past-life when you finally TR out of it to your next build.

Some build folk love a "fix it" challenge, too -- might help out if you post a build request like "help save my first life Paladin".
