Preview 2 Mistwalker Movement Style

Tolero

DDO Producer
This preview introduces a new cosmetic feature to DDO called "Movement Style". The feature can be previewed by creating a Human Male character and speaking with the Key Master in the Test Dojo to receive the toggleable cosmetic feat.

Movement Styles modify the default look of how your character moves their body outside of combat, such as when they are walking, running, jumping, swimming, or standing idle. Movement Styles are briefly suppressed during actions that involve combat or other situations that heavily involve the avatar's body moving in a way to communicate gameplay feedback (trap springing, riding a mount, sneaking). Example: If you are sneaking, your avatar will sneak, and when you stop sneaking, the Movement Style will simply resume on its own so long as you have the feat toggled on.

Known Issues:
  • Characters that are not Human Male currently don't use Movement Styles yet.
  • During this preview the Mistwalker mist effect doesn't temporarily dissipate like it's supposed to during certain situations, such as while performing particular combat actions - the avatar's body moves correctly, but the mist is still visible. For this Lamannia we do still want you to report times when you see this behavior. Here are the situations we're aware of it failing to suppress properly as of this Preview:
    • Sneaking
    • Trips
    • Cleaves
    • Diplomacy, Bluff, Intimidate
    • Seated on a Mount
    • Standing on a Mount
    • Emotes such as /dance
    • Teleporting

By far most of the time I am on a mount or doing some action.

Running in a different way when not is very low on my wish list to be honest.

I guess I will have to see before passing judgement but for now I am not excited about it at all

It doesn't go away when attacking using warlock blasts nor AotS Fiendish Symbiosis form's attacks.

I was hoping this would come to DDO, based on the similar thing in LOTRO. I'd also like new animations (or ANY animations) for recalling from dungeons.

I really like the idea of having animation sets as cosmetics. I do feel like it might be a big source of bugs, though. It feels like every time a new race or class is added there are inevitably problems with 'new thing + inquisitive' or 'new thing + warlock blast'. Hopefully this won't add another dimension to that.

I can do things others can't...
Most interesting... Must log into Lam tomorrow to try... I have a feeling I'll be grabbing these for more than one account when they finally become available.... *No more running around slightly hunched on a halfling, give me heroic Aasimar running instead..."

Although, that flight animation doesn't look bad either... :)

I'm assuming this is so they can be sold as cosmetics in the store which is totally fair, but does it not affect server performance if everyones movement style now has to constantly switch off and on?
I wonder if it's going to change anything with jumping puzzles as well.
