Prioritize fixing reincarnation bank problems

Reincarnation is integral to the core loop of the game. But if you have a lot of items it's a nightmare to do.

I personally have a hard time reorganizing things when people move my stuff around. To have that happen to me as part of an otherwise very fun video game just feels like a slap in the face. I probably spend about 5 to 10 hours per life reorganizing things and moving gear from reincarnation caches or alts to their appropriate spot. This is getting worse and worse as I accumulate more items, especially those with limitations on how they can be organized such as bound to character items.

Please please, prioritize making this experience better. Any improvements are welcome.

Some concrete ways to do this are:
- Stop adding items to the reincarnation cache and make the bank/inventory space from favor permanent (to prevent any problems related to lost storage space). This will remove the need to jumble up someone's organized inventory and bank storage. If there are issues around overflow space for equipped items, just make removing equipment a requirement for reincarnation.
* See this post later in this thread for a clear statement on why this feature is problematic in its current state (as opposed to my personal anecdote provided here in the initial post).
** This should also be paired with adding 40-200 free bank spots to make up for the lost deep storage space or a more robust solution like the one suggested here (Essentially being able to unlock the ability to reclaim a named item you've obtained once by sacrificing some amount of other named items.) As for why these extra inventory slots are necessary with this change, see this post later in this thread.

- Leave hotkey bars and UI alone. There's no reason to reset hotkey bars, one can remove abilities if they like, but a lot of things like potions, scrolls, past life abilities, etc, just have a spot on someone's bar permanently-- removing them all just adds an annoying chore.
* I made a separate thread focusing on the Hotkey bars issue here

Oh, no doubt. I would not want then to be BTA from the start so they are tradeable but after you equip it is when it goes BTA instead of BTC

People would spend money on rerolls and raid timers and all the astal shard trading fees

Inherent problems you ask? Items disappearing into the void when you tr, loss of character daya, and ssg refusing to take steps to provide data restoration/back up for everyone even though they've made special exceptions in the past.
Yeah, I complain a lot about my MM, but at least I still have my character and his gear... unlike some people :( Verysadddan.

I would like to play ddo, but I have to reincarnate... Part of me wants to just quit until they fix reincarnation to not be so annoying...

TLDR responses. OP: what's the problem with Reincarnation Cache? All your items are safetly tucked away, right?

You didn't lose anything, right?

You do not "have to" reincarnate. If you're hoping they stop TR, LR, ER, you're out of luck.

I would like to quote: less is more. That is one time that if we could apply the rule of would be a huge QoL for all of us.

While I understand the necessity of the cache, I will also argue in favor of removing it.

First of all, the 40+40 spaces that come from favor won't be enough to hold items. I'm a relatively new player and I can tell you the hording is absolutely mind blowing.

The only practical solution I can find is that our banks become withdraw only when the exceed their capacity.

So upon reincarnation all items in inventory and equipped will be moved in our bank. The bank will lose its 40 extra spaces and will go to an overflow state that will bring it to remove only items.

This will practically limit our hard max per toon equipment to: bank space +40(favor) +(inventory space +40(favor))*2 + equipped stuff*2.
Now TR should not be allowed if your bank is on an overflow state. Otherwise, you could keep accumulating stuff to a theoretically inf inventory. (*2 could become *TR #).

The TR cache provides exactly that *2. And it is slow to motivate us to empty it.

In order to maintain the business model, I would also maintain the speed penalty to the overflown bank.

As many of you might realize this change at the beginning would be a huge loss of QoL. As we tend to procrastinate to perform chores.
I often throw junk in my bank to keep playing and later clear up (dissolve). This would now be impossible until I clear up my stuff. So yes this change would be a Los of QoL but would at least force us to not procrastinate.

Cheers

It's about the time it takes to organize again after a reincarnation. Sometimes when I'm in the flow it can be not too bad; the recent increases in bank space made it a lot more tolerable as it made it where I don't have an extra step of temporarily shipping my gear off to alts (and nowadays I've learned my lesson to not play raids where I'm tempted to keep rare bound to character items, so I haven't filled up those extra slots).
But between the inventory jumbling (everything you have gets put in the reincarnation cache and has to be taken out again) and having to put all my potions/abilities back on my action bars, getting back in to play the game feels like work. And I don't really want to have to do work as part of the core mechanics of the game; it's often just enough to keep me from picking the game back up after a break.

You do not "have to" reincarnate. If you're hoping they stop TR, LR, ER, you're out of luck.
I don't want to get my end game gear out as I was farming out racial past lives before I took a break.

And yeah, this is similar to how I see it. It's a duct tape fix that needs a real solution. The transition might uncomfortable if they just rip it all off without any consideration, but they of course do have the option of adding other means of helping people organize their items; even the option of simply adding some extra bank spaces for the trouble; and they can leave the reincarnation cache alone as a withdraw only option and just not add items into upon reincarnation it for a minimally intrusive option.

I have a friend who hasn't logged in a while, i managed to get them to log on for a bit to see if we might tr and play together - and they looked at their TR cache, went "nope" and logged off :(

They had a golden opportunity to get rid of the cache with the transfers, when we all had to empty our caches. But they were in a hurry and didn't take advantage of it.

The solution is obvious. Give the cache space as regular storage, prevent the creation of more caches, give players time to empty it themselves, and then release an update that transfers the remaining caches to their personal storage.

This would save them a lot of headaches. They themselves have acknowledged that the cache isn't regular storage and that it causes many problems.

But they won't want to. Just the idea of having to give up extra space, even though we already have it in the form of a cache, is going to give them the creeps. So don't expect them to do anything.

I think some kind of mechanic that grants X cha bank spaces per TR maxing out at X # of slots OR just give every toon that TR's an automatic 160 slots

They prefer people creating 232565645 Mule chars than resolve the TR Cache paradox.

An even simpler solution would be for SSG to just convert all the BTC items to BTA.

Option B would be for SSG to implement a rune tradeback system - i.e. you can trade in BTC raid items for say 75% of the rune purchase price. Of course, this is SSG so if they did do this, they'd corrupt-a-wish it and give something like 25% of the rune value back which would effectively make it not worth the time.

As others have said, my TR cache is full of BTC items. Most of which I would be perfectly happy to store on a bank mule toon. Most of that stuff is old raid items. I'd happily delete/feed them but SSG already burned me pretty badly with the Soulforged and Set Augment system, so I no longer delete BTC raid items.

More BTA items would help sell character slots (for storage mules) and toon inventory and bank space (for bigger storage mules). It would also be a big step up in QoL for alts, which in turn would incentivize people to spend more time playing the game to TR and level alts, etc.

For example, I'm not going to bother farming a bunch of endgame gear from raids for a toon that's the TR train. As soon as I switch builds for different PLs while TRing, that gear would just sit in the TR cache collecting dust in case SSG introduces a new Soulforged/Set Augment system. If those raid items were BTA instead, I'd happily farm raid gear because I could use it for a bit, then transfer it to another toon after I switch builds.
