Question about F2P

My yearly sub to ddo expires this month before the server consolidation. I am going to take a break until after the next expansion then go back to a yearly sub.

As a F2P will I be able to transfer my char's over and will I have access to all of my chars to do that?

I guess I could do the monthly for one month but since I won't be playing I really don't want to go that route. Money is tight around here lol.

You'll be able to transfer all your characters over. As for access to play, that's more complex. If you don't own a race/class, you'd be locked out of the particular character until you either buy that (or resume VIP); so you should check the wiki or ask here if you're not certain if race/class you have is on the f2p list or a premium one. You'll also have less character slots (since VIP get extra while VIP), so you could end up over your cap in which case you'd have to pick from a list for which ones you want to have active for play.

yes but you are going to lose character slots

Thats a good question. If you quit vip then you dont have access to any character slots that you gained by being a vip. But if I were you, I would try to pm cordo and see what he says

as you transfer another character will be available, the issue will be on the 64 bit server

Loosing access to characters with Races or Classes you do not own sounds like an issue. On them you won't be able to log in to run the /pack function.

Suggestion to fix this: On a character the player no longer has access to the race/class for, let the player log in to the character but restrict them from entering quests until they own the race/class.

It occurs to me that if you don't have VIP and only have Artificer unlocked for your home server through favor, it won't be unlocked on the new 64-bit server you transfer to, meaning if you transfer an Artificer that character will be locked and unable to be played on the new server.

It's not a premium feature, it's inevitable migration to 64 bit servers. Everyone can (must) do it.

The only problem you may face is if your characters use Races/Classes that you'll lose the access to due to vip ending, you won't be able to log-in on those characters and transfer them.

That crossed my mind too. We've been told every character has to run a pack before moving; and if one can't log on to a character there's no way to do that if a character's access is locked (without spending money/DDO points).

1st you will NOT be F2p. DDO has 3 account types: VIP, Premium and F2p. If you've spent any real money on the game you'll have a Premium account.

Current character slot break down is: VIP 11, Premium 5 and F2p 3 PER SERVER, not all total.

So to answer your questions: YES everyone no matter what account type will be able to transfer.

Depending on how many characters you currently have you may or may not have access to them all if all are placed on the same server. Example: If you currently have 11 characters, drop your VIP all your characters will be locked when you first log in and you'll have to unlock 5 of those you wish to play if you put them all on the same server.

If instead you transfer 4 (of those imaged 11) to 1 server, 4 to another and the last 3 to another than you'd have access to all of them as you'd be under the Premium 5 allowed.

**** Now if you're in the position of having 11 BEFORE the server transfers and drop your sub before the server transfers than you'd have 6 locked so unless SSG steps in and maybe allows locked characters to be logged into on the closed servers (after Aug 31st) so you can transfer them, you should do the 1 month sub so you can access them and pack them up during the transfer window.

Favor unlocks supposed to transfer to the new servers.
So, create some temporary character from the F2P list of Races/Classes and transfer it first. Problem solved.

You **** scenario is incorrect. If you have 11 characters and you have dropped your vip sub when you log in you will be asked to pick 5 out of the 11 characters to be active. You then pack one up (or pack all 5 up) log out of the game and relogin and transfer your packed character(s) you now only have 10 character on that server and the game asks you to pick 5 to be active again and so on.

Your issue will only be if you have characters of classes or races that you do not own as others have said. You will then have a choice to either pay for one month's sub or buy the race/class. either will solve the problem for you. I guess you would have to decide which choice makes the most sense to you at the time. I guess if you have the points already in the store buying the race maybe the way to go, but only you can answer that question.

I guess it depends on whether the /pack can be done in the character selection window or if you have to enter the character (I don't know if they specified this).

If I were the OP, I'd either buy the classes/races of their active characters, or extend the VIP for a month, transfer, and then take the break. It seems like the safest option. Also, if there are problems with the transfers, in theory, VIPs have priority in customer service. In theory.

OP will also be able to drop vip...still do the transfers for what 5 slots...but when he returns and if he goes VIP again...then he can transfer the rest. Assuming he re subs within 2 years. Just saying it looks like it would only be a limitation until he subs.

This may not work, packing a F2P class could remove your favor unlock on the original server, causing you to be unable to log in and pack the favor locked character at all.
