Question about the TR Cache and the Upcoming Migration to 64-bit

I've taken a bit of time to read and reread the part about transferring the TR Cache, and I find the wording is a bit vague.

The following items will NOT be contained within your character transfer data through the Pack function:
  • Reincarnation Cache (Note: There is nothing you need to do related to your Reincarnation Cache prior to transfer. You can transfer through the Transfer Wizard with your Reincarnation Cache intact. You do not need to place your Cache into active inventory or storage prior to transfer.)
So my question is:

Is the TR Cache going to be transferred as part of the free transfer when you Pack the character, or will you have to pay like with a normal transfer to keep the cache as is?

The transfers from 32 bit to 64 will use the same transfer process as normal, except that they are adding extra steps (a pack/unpack feature to grab extra stuff.) It will also be free.

Reincarnation Cache already goes in the normal transfer process. (supposedly)

- It was strange for them to specifically mention that the cache does not go in the packed data. It would be like saying your character's surname does not pack, or its used tomes, or every other thing that transfers normally. It is an odd choice to even mention it.

It's pack. Use transfer wizard. Unpack. It's not a different transfer method, just an extra step. The TR cache will transfer either way.

then why pack if you can just use the normal interface? the wording is pretty confusing and it seems misleading.
The pack takes account data and things that didn't previously move under the wizard and attaches them to your character so they can be moved (mounts/pets/astral shards/guild renoun/monster manual stuff/etc.). Once you pack, you then use the transfer tool in the launcher to do the move, and then unpack. It's SSG way of allowing the moving of all the stuff that never moved before.

so then you just need to pack your main (likesay my namesake as he's the guild leader and did all the airship nonsense) ? you shouldn't need to pack every character then? I think that's a lot of the confusion

Well, you'd also want to pack every character that's in a guild (so their renown moves correctly). And maybe other characters too if there's data behind the scenes SSG thinks would be best to be moved over with them. It's definately confusing to what extent we need to pack every character or not; Cordovan has said to pack them all, so that's probably the "safe" move until they say otherwise.

okay then - why would you transfer using the normal interface instead of packing? the wording indicates its something to do with the TR cache? thanks for the insight!

The current document is just poorly word IMO. Either way you're still using the normal transfer interface; the packing doesn't change that, it's just an extra step before and after using the standard transfer wizard. They should probably clear things up by posting a guide with pictures and better explanations in the next couple weeks before the new worlds open.

It's supposed to transfer with the pack. However, I frankly don't trust that at all and have no intention of risking my cache to "trust us, I swear this thing we've never done before will work perfectly." So I'll be emptying mine into my inventory before I bounce.
I’m with you on this. IIRC they have always advised to clear your cache before server transfer as sometimes it makes it sometimes it doesn’t. We had several loose their cache when free transfers to Orien happened. Like Grace, I have played long enough not to take their word for it.

Think of the Pack function as the suitcase and the Transfer Wizard as the airplane, you aren't flying to your destination without the airplane. The Pack function bundles your data to prepare it for transfer and includes things like individual character data in addition to account-level data. So, as a result, the Pack function needs to be run on every character you wish to transfer, since it includes character-level information necessary to successfully transfer your stuff. However, the Pack function doesn't actually transfer your character, the standard Transfer Wizard does.
Any idea whether we'll need to move the guild leader first or last? Or won't it matter?
It doesn't matter, but in general for organizational reasons it probably makes sense for the guild leader to Unpack first then the guild members, that way the guild is already established when all of its members try to add their stuff to it.

Yes. What is confusing is that the TR cache does not get packed, but it moves with your character when you actually transfer using the transfer wizard.

Agreed. Part of my cleanup and prep for the transfer will be to empty my TR cache, remove/sell/dispose of items I don't need or want or are otherwise easily replaced (I have 15 stacks of Silver Flame Potions...) and just not worry about it. This is going to be a challenge as it is, don't need to add additional risks to it.
