I feel the same way about wings, regardless the type of caster I’m playing.

Unfortunately I think that with more racial AP Eladrin (iconic or original flavor) is the meta choice. Chaosmancer is effectively a +2 int race with winter attunement and there are some caster benefits including a cold immunity strip besides Fey Step. That would be an expensive build though, and by the time I have enough racial AP to do it I think the meta will have changed.

Eh, true; that or Deep Gnome. I'll go the latter when I have enough racial AP, though I will miss Rejuvenation of the Dawn from Sun Elf, and the superior aesthetics. But it's not super important. The meta choice is not to play a Wizard.

• Shadowdancer is indeed tempting, primarily for the evasion. The -10% cooldowns is also nice, plus getting ddoor would be a boon because level 4 is such a tight spell level for PMs. However, I simply cannot do without wings, so I am obliged to stay in EA.

Problem is that the Dev's have simply made Wings a must have due to the increase in physical-players speed / DPS and casters less reliable CC / DPS. Without that escape-hatch / speed-boost, Casters would be even more horrible at end game.

To be honest, I would probably take wings regardless. They're just so useful for manoeuvring that I now dislike playing without them. I cannot go back.
