Rare loot sucked most of the fun out of MD - don't ruin another expansion with this stupid mechanic

SSG - you already got my money. I'll spend more on liquor this weekend anyway.

Myth Drannor was arguably your worst expansion between the crest fetching, terrible raid with insane mob HP, and the worst mechanic being rare loot and rare augments.

Ravenloft was your best expansion, the highest regarded and still great to this day. Continue this with the next one.

Rare loot/augments is not needed. The mythic/reaper/curse system already ensure those who care will continue to farm and re-roll chests. Those who don't simply won't bother to run the stuff more than once for XP.

Farming rare loot turned me into a sociopath, I much prefer the role of forum buffoon and mediocre player who thinks he knows everything.

Think of the children.

It must look promising on the spreadsheets because they are now presumably going to sell ransack reset so players who pay to shorten their grinds will also continue to buy AS to continue rerolling chests.

All to come to the forums 6 weeks later and complain there wasn't enough content in the expansion.

The "after 1400 chest-pulls I still don't have the thing I want" threads will also arrive much sooner than previous expansions.

I think the OP has made a fine point.

We already have rare loot.

It’s called Mythic and Reaper bonuses (and honestly curse cards as well).

Now we’ve added another layer on top called “rare loot” for those of us just trying to “get by” as casuals in the game.

Way too greedy SSG. Let’s tone it down.

my latest conspiracy theory: SSG needed X amount of dollars in 2024 to pay for 64-bit server migrations and used rares to do finance it, knowing both the cost to player burnout and the benefit of money. they are using pre-sales to gauge the impact to the player and ultimately set the final direction for Chill rares. however, they always knew the cost of player burnout was too much and they intended to roll it back to something more reasonable.

I'd like to see a poll asking how many folks would buy the expansion if they knew the Chill rares were limited to 1 rare per chest at a drop rate of 2.5% or whatever they deem is reasonable.

reviewing how folks react to a win after they've had many failures in a game is something game developers are well aware of, so if they rolled out a fix to rares that most found palatable, most would feel they'd won DDO and the enthusiasm could be enviable.

the only down side is some folks have checked out of DDO, so we need a fairly large reversal of rares to cast a net wide enough to bring those folks back.

there are many paths to a win here...rares isn't a bad idea, it was just implemented as a quick cash grab.

@Ozz are you going to Thane or Moonsea or...I used to love running with your grumpy butt, though I moved to Orien for LFMs...you are one of the best tacticians i've ever run with!

Well thank you for your comment. I 100% am not going to any server apart from maybe Corymr with the guild or alone to Moonsea and atm i am favouring moonsea as it would be nice to group with people again as I mostly run solo as I do not want to do R1 as I usualy level on R3.

For me the rare loot has quite opposite effect than more rerolls. If I know I am not getting it anyway probably, I am not rerolling. I have rerolled several chests for normal loot, though - where I knew I had a decent 6% chance (e.g.: 1 in 6 items with 35%). Because this way it is more predictable how much AS you end up spending. If you have <0.1% chance, you can end up rerolling for eternity before you get it.

I'll complain about whatever I want whenever I want.
Can you please confirm if you did buy the New Expansion.

The reason being, i love reading your posts and you always come across with logical and sensible reasoning. You and a few of the other regular forum users were the ones to actually convince me not to buy MD. I naturally assumed that all the ones complaining about the MD rare loot mechanic. Would not be buying the new expansion. Until the rare loot mechanic had been either confirmed or denied.

At the moment, i am sitting on the fence until they either confirm or reject the rare loot mechanic.

Do you hold out hope that one day they will eventually do away with the rare loot mechanic in MD. The reason being the expansion sounds really fun and interesting. But i really hate grinding for loot (i usually only play a quest once with each character) and for me when i buy something i expect at least a chance of getting loot in the game (I am talking about heroic content, Legendary i am happy to grind as thats part of the end gameplay). This is the main reason i no longer run heroic saltmarsh anymore. As the drop rate is really terrible. In fact my guildies convinced me to run it again the other week and out of 10+ rare chests with 4 people pulling. We got exactly zero named loot. so thats over 40 pulls. So Saltmarsh is back on my ignore list, until either my guildies convince me to run it again or they up the drop rate.
