Rare loot + the curse system sucks. Make it suck less

The stats on the rares aren't special; so we get to enjoy the fun of knowing that the next pack or expansion can break the gearset tetris and start that grind all over again. Look at old hard to get items like Sword of Shadows, people still want that because it was special. Calling items "rare" for the sake of grind isn't fun.

You know what loot system was rare but fun and accepted by players? Feytwisted chests. Because when you saw one you knew everyone was guaranteed an item, and you could trade them to other players in the chest. That was satisfying and promoted playing with others.
Yes, this was a good system.

This as well. Minor artifacts have been BASIC equipment since Sharn.

Basically…. They need to re-think this whole rare loot system.

There’s a way to do this, just, MD wasn’t it.

Yeah, all companies do this.

“OK, so they can stomach Reaper bonus randomness , and mythic grindfestness… and oh s5!7 !! They even can take these rando crazy curse cards on top of all that !!!!!!”

“…maybe I can squeeze a little harder and see if I can wring any more blood out of this stone..”

“Ouch!! OK they biting back !! that was too much !!”

Why do I have 614 ddo build files
Yeah personally I just skipped non-raid MD loot across the board. I've run a lot less endgame recently as well, because of that.

It's hard to be motivated to grind out super-rare stuff lol, and it's easy to just be like "yeah Vecna's good enough, save yourself the stress" so that's where I'm at. I just curse things once and yolo it. And I know quite well how much power that leaves on the table, but I also know I'll burn out and quit if I have to farm out an item 30x.

I understand the perspective of "curses aren't supposed to be something you farm for" but it represents a significant bonus if you do, so people will. And it's too late to change now, or the people who *did* farm out a full gearset will be justifiably angry. Should have been +2 Swim lol, or even +2 Reflex saves; you could benefit from farming the right one, but not enough to feel required to. But +5 MP is like another filigree slot or Reaper Ring lol. I have +2 Imbue Dice on a heroic VoM, and can't consider an alternate heroic trinket.

And you could go farm a chest and then call over some friends to loot it, for 6 guaranteed items which is a significant bite at the 15 (?) items possible.

This LITERALLY MEANS SSG FAILED.

Great job SSG!

What does the wilderness in MD give?
Heartache 😜

Most chests inthe wilderness provide some very basic rings that are now easy to collect. There are two boss fights that drop the insane rares and some of them are very desirable, but ya need to be willing to spend a disgustingly grotesque amount of time & resources to collect.

What does the wilderness in MD give? I'm still playing IOD for fossils. LOL
Quality stat rings provide workable gear tetris options. The other rings are blech. There are some rare items like the Helm of the Warblade that could be good, but it's been 7 months and the Crown of Summer effect is still broken on it and the Exceptional Seeker is still typed as Insightful. Talk about getting screwed with rare loot...

It's WAI by design, but such a confusing design choice to use an old effect that's labeled that way.
I don't accept it's WAI. Even if you interpret it as Insightful Seeker +5, the scaling is off compared to other items of the same minimum level (which are Insightful Seeker +6). Either way, it's sad, irritating and now commonplace it's yet another bug introduced with loot that hasn't been addressed even though it's been brought up many times before this post.

I miss Tonquin when he would squash bugs like this after five minutes in the item editor.

When it was pointed out on lam, we were told this:

I actually take larger issue with the mythic/reaper/curse system than the rare item system. I have come out with quite a few new gear layouts that use the new items from DoV, Night brigade, and the items from lama preview. The issue is that it will always be a net loss unless I can keep curses and mythic/reaper. The layout I use has no rare items, but being unable to use any new items until I get good layered rng is tragic.

Rare items exacerbate this issue to the point where it becomes futile to farm them.

To anyone that argues curse are just a "nice bonus" and "unnecessary", would you rather have 2 damage or 1 seeker? If the curses were a small bonus, I would agree but there are quite a few curses that are strong enough that they make it impossible to use any new items until you have all the curses you currently have.
