Read more about the year ahead in a new Producer's Letter!

Someone please enlighten me on why everyone is saying Dhampirs are a mix of elf? To be fair I didn't know too much about them before I read the producers letter, but after looking them up every source I'm reading says they're a cross between human and vampire. Someone please explain where this elf talk is coming from.
At this point Elf is just a running joke when it comes to new races.

All new races are elves. Did you get memo? You get an elf, and you get elf, and you get an elf...

It's five years on after this. It'd be nice to see it back, but am not holding my breath.
The freecode has been put out every year after 2020 but still waiting for it to be released again in 2025.

I was thinking that they were not releasing freecode until after the initial 64 bit test so the server would not be overwhelmed. They still havent had the initial response they were hoping for. And still havent since having opened it to premium and f2p. So the next logical solution to increase the numbers is to put out the freecode now.

I vote for bringing people together into one or max two servers altogether.

Also, the way the 64bit server situation is handled in LOTRO might give some insight into how transfers would go in DDO. There are some good solutions there.

I'm not a developer but I did stay @ a Best Western last night... so these letters are intended to be broad strokes for the year and are that way by design. In time as things get closer to fruition (hopefully...) the finer details will come.

My inner skeptic thinks though that the details, while finer, will still be vague or miscommunicated at some level, causing even more teeth-gnashing, hair-pulling and other apprehensions on the user side. Hopefully they won't fumble the ball too badly on this end. 🤞

I think I speak for all guild leaders here on this. We need to know your plans asap. Need to know our options. Relocation and/or rebuild. Will I have manually reinvite every single toon. We need to know what the devs thoughts are. So we can plan what ahead. Cuase I'll tell you right now. If handful larger guilds leave from 32 bit to new ones the 32 bit will be ghost towns. Idk.how many times only a merger will work. If you split friendships and guild mate many will just quit the game. Heck i
Only play for guild mates and friends I made in different guilds over the years.

Can a dev confirm if the plat cap is going to increase on 64 bit servers? Currently the plat cap is the limit of a 32-bit unsigned integer in cp (~4.3 million pp). The limit of 64 bit should be (2^64)-1... or 18,446,744,073,709,551,615 cp.... or ~18.4 QUADRILLION pp o_O

This should revitalize the economy and make plat useful again. Granted... there's likely to be high inflation, but if the plat cap was (virtually) unlimited we could have an economy again.

Or maybe someone has already confirmed or denied this on Cormyr?

As much as I am into playing undead characters. A Dhampyr is not one. They get some Vampiric abilities but they are not undead and do NOT heal from negative energy. They actually get their ability bonus from their parent race and are classified as a sub-race. I doubt we will get that sort of fexibility however. With that said they will likely be human offspring. SSG could really choose a +2 to a stat they want at that point or a +1 to 2 different stats at character creation, mind you I am not saying giving us a choice it would be a choice they pick for us.

The bite I can totally see as a heal modified from the warlock class, Not needing to breathe like the warforge, maybe a jump bonuse since there is no spider climb. Past life??? perhaps a +1 to jump or a +1 to resist neg energy. Due to their drain being using con for it's DC a +1 to con could be a realistic stat for a 2nd past life. I am trying to be postive here on choices they could pick from due to the Lore of the Dhampyr race.

I for one, do hope for new servers, multiple ones, the more the better.

I've been holding out on recommending the game to friends who I know are sensitive to lag in other games.
And I get that these 64 bit servers and technology arn't as sensitive for now, but DDO performance is always affected by higher player count, and trying to brick these new servers by cramming them all to tightly and still getting the same problem anyway and kneecapping devs from adding more cool Feats and Player Progression.

There has been for a really long time and old idea about creating a Mega Server, so people can easily group up and play content fast and reliably without waiting for the right LFM to finally pop up.
And even so the population would be spread across a few different "Mega Servers", making that dream good, but not great, and at the cost of stability and performance.
And I get it, but I don't think that's the right solution to the problem.

What I'm hopeful for and think would be a better way is if they can solve Crossplay Server LFMs, that would have way more LFMs than multiple Mega Servers.

Please no more lag.
Thanks for listening.

Bugs "pending" from U37... still busted 2025. Not calling out SSG's track record, but the bridge the track was on collapsed awhile ago.
What are the odds any of them ever see a fix with this revisit.

This should revitalize the economy and make plat useful again.
Honestly not sure if even a huge plat limit can help. If they upgraded the bank and AH cap, someone charging 2M for vendor junk like
an Epic Energized Longbow or something, would just post a higher price. Maybe if they added alternate uses like a low-level XP stone
NPC (silver roll level for example) for alts to get a minor bump and remove excess plat from the economy?

The 64-bit part is all about 64-bit memory access for greater than 4gb ram usage on the server. 32-bit software can already use larger math values so no change on that end.

I'm hoping the new 64-bit servers shake out as:

1. Cormyr, the VIP fresh start only server
2. One US normal mega-server
3. One EU normal mega-server

Three servers total is more than enough for this game's current playerbase. This will be far fewer players per server than the game had at F2P release.
Same. Cormyr as a fresh start gives a real benefit to VIP and it is so nice to play in a new economy. If they open Cormyr up to transfers IN, I will be very disappointed.

If the total number of servers will be decreasing (which should be the case, we need some consolidation of the playerbase) then please consider granting free character slots based on account status, so that this positive event is not soured by people being forced to abandon (too) many characters. I suggest:
1 Free character slot per server added to F2P accounts
1 or 2 additional free character slots per server added to Premium accounts (for 2-3 total free slots)
1, 2 or 3 additional free character slots per server added to VIP accounts (for 3-6 total free slots)
FWIW in LOTRO they increased the base number of character slots by 5.

I think we will end up with 5-6 open servers in total, including EU servers and Cormyr.
My guess is that Cormyr will either be closed or turned non-VIP permanently and added to the US 64-bit server pool. A VIP only server makes no sense once all open servers are 64-bit.
LOTRO will have the 32-bit servers, the 2 current 64-bit Legendary servers (plus a 32-bit one), then 2 new ones in the US and 2 in Europe.

A DDO equivalent to that would be the current 32-bit servers plus Cormyr plus two 64-bit US and two 64-bit Euro servers, for a total of five 64-bit servers.

Can a dev confirm if the plat cap is going to increase on 64 bit servers?
Some time ago one of them said : no, it won't.

I'd guess anyway that only when/if the 32-bit servers are discontinued would it be possible to up the plat limit, because they need to keep that code consistent between 32-bit and 64.

The 64-bit part is all about 64-bit memory access for greater than 4gb ram usage on the server. 32-bit software can already use larger math values so no change on that end.
Actually, one of the Turbine Devs years ago did state on this subject that in DDO, the plat limit (which is a copper piece limit in disguise) was an imposition from 32-bit.
